Rudy Buttignol[edit]

Hi Sofiabrampton. Thanks for the posts on my talk page.[1] The Doc Mogul Award info was and still is in the article. Looks like you were able to add his Nationality being Canadian. You can find out who did what to the Rudy Buttignol article via the article's edit history. I removed the awards section header, but kept the prose (text) information. A better way to write the article is in chronological order rather than the resume multiple section style, which may lead to inviting one or more of the numerous Wikipedia:Template messages/Cleanup being posted to the top of the article. As a chronological example, instead of "He is current Chair of the International Advisory Council of the Hot Docs Documentary Forum," it would provide more context to say, "In 2007 (or what ever the correct date is), Buttignol became the Chair of the International Advisory Council of the Hot Docs Documentary Forum."
If you merely are taking information from http://knowledge.ca/about/president-ceo and plunking it into the article, you'll run afowl of the Wikipedia:Copyrights policy. Almost just as bad, the article will merely be another one of those articles developed from information that is connected to the topic since http://knowledge.ca/about/president-ceo is from http://knowledge.ca/, which is connected to Rudy Buttignol. You seem to have an interest in Buttignol, but if I were him, I would not be so happy with the effort put into the Buttignol article. If you want to show respect for Rudy Buttignol and his accomplishments, you might rewrite the article using only information from "coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." (See WP:GNG). In other words, don't use information about Rudy Buttignol from any entity connected to Buttignol. Also, generally avoid using information from websites. Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Buttignol has been written about in many newspapers. He's even mentioned in books,[2] which are more impressive Wikipedia reliable sources than a webpage write up about Buttignol from the company he works at. Why not write the article based on the newspaper and book coverage? For source material, can try looking in:

Thanks for the additional posts on my talk page.[3] External links are part of the |URL= parameter in the news, book, magazine, etc. citation templates. You are not required to include a URL link in your reference citation. I usually try to so that months down the road I can locate the source. You are not required to include the page number, either, in a citation. Links to online newspaper articles are not sources, it is the newspaper articles themselves that are sources. It's unlikely the newspapers will give you free access to their pay sites. Reference ^[1] are positioned after a comma or after a period and support what the sentence says. "external link [[ ]]" are actually internal links. At first, it's hard to figure out what to internally link. In reply to your post on my talk page:It's really nice to see the effort you are putting into the Rudy Buttignol article. It's rare that I get to see that. Either people already know how to do it or, if they don't know, they don't care because alls they want is to see their topic of interest have a Wikipedia article. First, I suggest putting all those notes under the reference section. Most articles only use references. Also, forget trying to use Webreflinks. It's much easier to just grab a copy of cite news, cite web, cite journal, or cite book and fill each parameter in. I'm not sure what you mean by "the fluidity of websites that may be here today and gone tomorrow." You don't have to use URLs, but I always try to. If the link later doesn't work, a bot will pick up on it, place a notice somewhere, and someone will eventually fix it. The "bare URLs for citations" template (e.g. Template:Cleanup-link rot) was removed from the article (It wasn't there as of this post). The funny symbol was "</".[4] From Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking#Syntax, "The syntax for referencing a URL is simple. Just enclose it in single brackets with a space between the URL and the text that will be displayed when the page is previewed or saved [http://www.example.org Text to display]. The text will display as: Text to display. In your case, you use "</" as the displayed text for your link by posting, "[http://www.academy.ca/hist/history.cfm?nname=Buttignol&winonly=0&awards=0&rtype=1&curstep=4&submit.y=8</] There was no space between the "</" and the link before it, so I don't know why "</" was shown as the visible text in the article. Congrats from me too on your first article! When people search Google for Rudy Buttignol,[5] the Wikipedia article you wrote on him eventually will be the first thing that they see. (Google looooves Wikipedia becase we give them free content and they work closely with Wikipedia to keep it coming. Wikipedia even has its own link on Google map.) Very likely, Rudy Buttignol himself will read the article you wrote and, in that way, you communicate directly with him. It's really nice to see the effort you put into the Rudy Buttignol article to get it ready for article space. It's rare that I get to see that. RE: "adding a photograph and the copyright issues" - The easiest way to address this is to have the person who pushed the camera button to take a photo to upload that photo to Wikimedia Commons. Then you can use the photo in an article. Buttignol's wife could upload photos to Wikimedia Commons that she took of Buttignol.
