Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arebica

When a person writes in his user page "This user comes from Bosnia and Herzegovina" and later insists that there is no such thing as Arebica or the person Džemaludin Čaušević is a hoax, then either he is a liar and/or has some motives which has nothing in common of wikipedia's goal of disseminating information. I don't see recognition from his side of making a honest mistake. Timurite (talk) 15:46, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

After some thought, I came to understanding that you were right. If a person is decent, they will learn the lesson; if the person is nasty, my (discussed) comments will not help wikipedia anyway. Timurite (talk) 18:12, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I agree! I similarly questioned the nominator's motives, but it's best to keep the discussion focussed on what's important -- that those topics are notable and the articles should be kept. Somno (talk) 11:51, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Have started updating information on the books - consider that the film & TV series should be a separate article - you may want to do some editing magic Dan arndt (talk) 01:34, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Looks heaps better already! I will have a closer look when I have more time and see if I can add or improve anything. I agree that they should be separate articles. (BTW, your first edit was much cooler than mine...) Somno (talk) 12:09, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Well it needed to be done & was bored at the time. Just a check of my first edits & I can't believe what a mess I got myself into simply trying to create a new article (which reminds me to create a draft article for his latest solo album). Dan arndt (talk) 02:10, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Your latest edits look good - maybe you might want to re-assess the article - doubt if it is 'start' class anymore. Dan arndt (talk) 08:12, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Took me long enough, hey? ;) I think there's still more info to add, but I haven't looked for sources yet. Somno (talk) 08:16, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Yellagonga Regional Park

Updated DYK query On 5 December, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Yellagonga Regional Park, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

BorgQueen (talk) 21:26, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Hooray for getting a DYK without writing a hook or submitting anything to DYK! Thanks RyanCross and Orlady. :) Somno (talk) 06:43, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
I hereby award you a barnstar for saving Road Island Diner from deletion and offering a confuddled newbie additional help. Mgm|(talk) 15:52, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Exhibited at the World's Fair, donated to the American Diner Museum, refurbished for $1 million by its new owner, and it served 5,500 customers in the first two weeks open, despite being in a town of only 1,000 residents = no way it should have been deleted. :) Somno (talk) 02:29, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dreadstar. I agree that the above article was crap, but I don't think speedy deleting it as "patent nonsense" was correct. Graymornings was able to determine in the AfD that the article was part of the There Goes a... series, so surely therefore it was not patent nonsense? I would have preferred that the AfD was allowed to continue and the lack of the video's notability established so the article couldn't be recreated. Have I misinterpreted something? Somno (talk) 05:24, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

That specific article title does not appear to be part of the There Goes a... series, as Graymornings points out here, and its contents did indeed appear to be patent nonsense (Dave getting hung from a crane by his underwear?); much as the other nonsense or attack articles created by the same banned editor that created this one. But I went ahead and changed the speedy reason to vandalism. Although I doubt it will be recreated, I'll keep an eye on it just in case. Dreadstar 06:55, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
I must admit that I can't remember much of the article's contents any more, but Dave hanging from a crane by his underwear does seem a little unlikely for a children's show. I couldn't find any mention of that in the reviews at Amazon, so I agree that the article's contents were probably just vandalism. Thanks for clarifying that for me. :) Somno (talk) 07:05, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Help!

Finally got around to doing the update on your gas crisis article that I promised you almost a month ago. Ended up doing 5 edits. Just checked back on the article and noticed that everything south of References has disappeared. Shows up on previous revision but not current one. Obviously I've screwed up somewhere but I have no idea how. I've noticed that a number of templates are absent from the template list when in edit mode. Would you mind having a quick look when you get a chance? I'm done with the updates by the way though my latest instalments could certainly do with a once-over from your eagle eyes. I've increased the article's length by about 20% today which may be too much. So go ahead with a ruthless 'slash and burn' or else suggest some changes and I'll take care of it myself. Whatever. Cheers Somno. GlenDillon 15:34, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Yay, thanks! I'll have a proper look soon - just came on here quickly before going to work. Whenever the end of an article disappears, there's always a missing </ref> tag right before it. :) Somno (talk) 22:33, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

I will repair those items. Sorry for the mistakes.

Royal Rumble 1993

Thanks for the review on this article (and don't worry about taking a couple of days--real life always comes first, especially at Christmas). I asked for a review from outside the project for a couple of reasons: to avoid conflict of interest, and to make sure that it is accessible everyone. If someone with no knowledge of wrestling can understand it, I feel that is one of the best signs of quality. I have tried to respond to each of your concerns. If you could look it over when you have a chance, I would really appreciate it. Please let me know if anything still needs fixing (or if you find anything else). Thanks again, GaryColemanFan (talk) 21:07, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

There is nothing else that needs fixing that I can see, so I've passed the article. The text made sense to me (accompanied by reading several of the internal links), so I consider it accessible. I have avoided reviewing wrestling nominations due to my lack of topic knowledge (and interest! ;) but since YellowMonkey has nominated many cricket articles as part of WP:AUS, I thought I should help out by reviewing in the Sports category. It's not all altruistic though - I plan to nominate a sports article myself soon, so I do have an ulterior motive for reducing the backlog. Anyway, now that I've reviewed one wrestling article and seen it's not too difficult, I won't be actively avoiding them any more. :) Somno (talk) 02:10, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, there has to be a consensus before a close can be made. Sorry for the inconvenience, but a second relist was necessary. Cheers, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 15:02, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: Digital Telecommunications Philippines

Hi! Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I've long been a viewer of wikipedia and I have just become a registered user a few days ago. I have yet to familiarize myself with the processes, and I agree that cut-and-paste is not a good thing to do. I just didn't know how to do it properly, i.e. the "move" option. I was a campus journalist before and I am really pissed when I see articles under the wrong headings and such. Anyway, thanks for educating me about the processes. :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rcsadeh (talkcontribs) 04:12, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Happy to help. It's often a problem for newly registered users because until a user is autoconfirmed (either by the account being over 4 days old or making 10 edits), they won't see the "Move" tab at the top of the page. But now you know for next time. I'll put a welcome message on your talk page with some links you might find useful - it's difficult to understand how everything works on here, especially straight away! :) Somno (talk) 04:17, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

I also appreciate you for your work in wiki ,bcos of you now I know wiki in better way,I hope you will not mind this and will keep on guiding me for our commmon goal of wiki.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Bashish (talkcontribs)

Hi Bashish. You're correct, I do have little information about Gwalior. That's why, to me, both the articles seemed to be about the same institute. Thank you for clarifying that. If you have any questions, please let me know. Somno (talk) 09:40, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Quick Review

Hi Somno,

This is not THE review that you've asked for, I'm only going to look at your CSD work really quick (as you explicitly asked for that) but will review you more thoroughly later.

So far, EXCELLENT work... So far the only thing I see is when you tag something G10 go ahead and blank the page. There is no reason to leave the attack easily visible.

  • Find an A7 that shouldn't have been: An article making the claim that a person was the ex Mr Universe. This is a claim to importance or significance. Remember that when dealing with A7, the article does not have to make a claim that meeting WP:N or WP:BIO. Nor does it have to prove the claim, it only has to make a claim of importance/significance.
  • Another A7: being the first black male to get a scholoship at a major college. This is a definite claim at importance or significance.

While both of those articles should not have been speedied as A7, they were not flagarant... and I looked at a lot of your CSD's... over all, you do a GREAT job. I'll look at your other edits later, but wanted to look at this now.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 06:56, 7 January 2009 (UTC)EDIT: I should have mentioned, I really like the fact that when you tag something as a copy vio that you include the page it is a copyvio of, this should be standard, but for some it is not.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 15:30, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

That's great to know, thanks! I do generally blank attack pages, but on occasion, I tag the article and move on to checking out the user's other contributions and forget to blank the text. I'll be more careful about that in the future. If I remember correctly, Mr Universe's article was a spammy COI article about him and his business? If so, I don't feel too bad about it being deleted, although I should have used a more appropriate tag. The scholarship one was definitely wrong - did that article actually get speedily deleted?
Thanks for your review so far! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. Somno (talk) 07:27, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
They both got deleted... and part of the reason why I'm not to harsh on it is that both of them probably deserved to be deleted... just not as A7's.---Balloonman PoppaBalloonCSD Survey Results 07:32, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Canning Dam GA review

Hi Eustress, I just noticed that you failed the GA nomination for Canning Dam. I'm just wondering why? As far as I can see, the only two issues not addressed are that there were too many citations in the lead (which you said wasn't a big problem on Mdavies 965's talk page), and that a caption needed to be slightly expanded? Mdavies 965 hasn't been online since you warned him the hold period's seven days were up, and seven days isn't a strict rule - you could've left it a little longer before failing to give him time to see your comment, since there were so few issues? You could've even fixed those two issues yourself in order to pass it - it's not a requirement of GA reviewing to fix the article, of course, but GA reviewers can make little adjustments and improve the article too. Anyway, just wondering and I thought I'd ask. (If I'd seen it was on hold, I'd have fixed it myself, but I only noticed it after the fact.) Thanks, Somno (talk) 01:47, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps you're right, but it is the nominating editor's duty to oversee the GAN, and at least he/she was aware of the deadline, as we discussed part of the review via talk page. The article can easily be renominated, and I would be happy to conduct an expedited follow-up review if so petitioned. --Eustress (talk) 02:10, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

You left me a message about copyvio on this article, but I didn't create it. Please review the edit history again. Thanks --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 03:45, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Very true! I apologise for the mix-up and I've removed the tag from your talk page and placed it on User:Plindenbaum's instead. Thanks for letting me know. Somno (talk) 02:53, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Cut and paste move

I've responded to your message on my talk page. Ouch! You've used a template to send a message to an experienced editor. Please review the essay Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars or maybe listen to a little advice. Doesn't this feel cold, impersonal, and canned? It's meant in good humour. Best wishes. About Clarence Crafoord and pubmed

About Talk:Clarence_Crafoord. Thank you, The talk was followed by a very interesting conversation on FriendFeed http://friendfeed.com/e/4950d465-2b8c-4570-b2aa-85c5317c8952/Does-an-article-in-pubmed-belong-to-the-legal/ and a blog post by Joe http://www.cotch.net/blog/20090126_1005. I'm now convinced that I need to change the content of the pubmed abstracts. I'll change the content of this article in the next 24H00. --Plindenbaum (talk) 06:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Wow, so much discussion! Thanks for giving me the links; they were very interesting reading. All because Wikipedia's definition of fair use as non-free content is much stricter than fair use under US law (or Australian law, where I'm from)... I guess we can thank the Wikimedia Foundation for that, and in this article's case, CorenSearchBot for tagging the article and me for following up on the bot's tag and questioning whether the abstracts were public domain (as opposed to freely available).
Unfortunately, you also need to rewrite the other articles you've added from PubMed or they'll also face deletion. I'd offer to help, but because the articles are quite technical and I'm not a medical expert, I'd probably be more of a hindrance than a help. :( Regards, Somno (talk) 08:30, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Canning dam

Hi, and sorry for my less then tardy reply. I would be delighted if you could fix the issues that need adressing and re-nominate the article, i was aware of many of the issues with the nomination however family commitments made it difficult for me to reach a computer in the time frame given, and with school starting soon my editing will be limited. --Mdavies 965 (talk) 07:25, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

YellowMonkey fixed the article and it's now a GA, so he's the one to thank. :) Somno (talk) 11:08, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
