Where is the box to object to speedy deletion? This is ridiculous!!

Barbara Hall Fiske is a real artist and a real cartoonist and deserves to be in Wikipedia, too. I hate the way you are all always so rude to people who are somewhat different from yourselves. What am I "advertising"? B. Hall is a real artist and she appears in a book (The Great Women Cartoonists, by Trina Robbins, Workman, 2008). Also, you will find her on Lambiek, a directory of cartoonists situated in the Netherlands. I do not know how to object to this, but it is not the first article I have written. I helped to write Quarry Hill Creative Center (which has been there for some years) and I really feel it would be wrong to just delete this article which should be called B. Hall, or Barbara Hall. She is an American artist and cartoonist and the co-creator of Quarry Hill Creative Center. I do not know where else to leave this message. Instead of deleting me and my article, why not help me fix it so it meets your criteria? It seems to me that Wikipedia has become more "snooty" than it once was and doesn't allow people to really edit things. My artistic and literary family and my community has been of interest to many in the press as you will see by all the sources at Quarry Hill Creative Center and Irving Fiske. Why delete me and my article? It is cruel and just not helpful. Thanks, I. McFarlin "Songcat" (I don't know where to ask for non-deletion. It is all too complicated~)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Songcat, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. The place you're looking for is WP:REFUND; I'm not an admin, so I can't do it myself. What you should do there is ask for an administrator to restore the content at User:Songcat/Sandbox, and if you need help working on it you can ask me at any time. Hi there. In response to your message on my talk page, the good news is your page can be found here: User:Songcat/Barbara Hall. Feel free to work on it there; since it's in your userspace, there's no rush, so you won't have to worry about it being speedy-deleted. Before it can be moved to "live" article space, you'll need to establish the subject's notability with some additional third-party references (e.g. newspaper articles, books about the subject, etc.) In the meantime, happy editing! 28bytes (talk) 23:23, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

http://lambiek.net/artists/h/hall_barbara.htm is one of my sources. I hope I won't need a million of them (there are some in Vermont Magazine and local papers. Most are already on Wikipedia on the Quarry Hill Creative Center page. Songcat (talk) 13:45, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is a great start. If you know of any more sources (I know it can be a pain to track them down), by all means let me know. We don't need a million of them, but if we can get four or five good ones I think we can make a good case that the general notability guideline is met. 28bytes (talk) 19:19, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Songcat. I've had a chance to look it over in more detail and the main problem I have is that most of the article, as it stands now, doesn't comply with our biographies of living persons policy. (Please read that link when you have a chance.) Specifically, we have to avoid original research, which is basically anything that hasn't already been published in a reliable source. For example, the discussion of the electroshock therapy, is that something that was discussed in a biographical article (e.g. from Vermont magazine, or one of the local papers), or is that something from personal knowledge? (I know this may seem like making you jump through hoops, but we do need to make sure we get this right, to give the article the best chance of surviving a deletion challenge.) 28bytes (talk) 15:10, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I must really respectfully disagree that I did not show in what way B. Hall is a person who merits a Wikipedia article. That seems, if you will excuse me, rather sexist. She did so many things, she created and then saved one of the oldest alternative communities in the country; she is one of the few remaining women to have been a cartoonist during WWII, and she has taught many young artists to draw. What does a woman have to do to be important enough to be in Wikipedia? Thanks. Songcat I don't know what more you want me to do to make this be a "Wikified" article but wish you would consider that maybe the criteria is becoming too demanding.

Hi there.

With regards to your replies and questions, over the past half-hour...I'm sorry if it was confusing but... I temporarily removed some of them, then put them back into the right place. So, if you were looking whilst I was fixing it up, you might've wondered what was going on.

Some of your comments weren't in the right section, so I shuffled things around a bit. I hope I didn't miss anything; if you look at my page now, my replies (including re. the thingy) should hopefully make sense. Or, of course, you can always ask in live help. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  17:06, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chzz... ok! I'm never sure where the right section of ANYTHING is now. But I sure appreciate your help. I found a copy of my mother's birth certificate on-line and should be able to find some other papers of that sort to which I can make reference. TX Songcat (talk) 18:03, 29 October 2011 (UTC) HI CHZZ... WHY does some of the text appear in a large, red-dashed box??? This is one of the great puzzlements of human life and I have never been able to figure out why this happens. ??? Tx, Songcat (talk) 18:33, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean,
like this?
It's because there is a space at the beginning of the line. Remove it, and all will be well.
I've just fixed a couple in the draft. There was also a minor problem with part of the page not displaying, because there was a <ref> with no corresponding </ref> - so I fixed that too.
Also, there is no need to "sign" with ~~~~ when you are editing an article, or that draft. We don't put signatures on article pages - only on talk pages.
Thanks for the 'barnstar' thing :-)  Chzz  ►  14:03, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chzz Thanks for all your help. Now do I sign with Songcat (talk) 01:03, 31 October 2011 (UTC) or not??? Glad you liked the star thing. It looked pretty. This is a talk page so... Songcat (talk) 01:03, 31 October 2011 (UTC) {{subst:November 13,2011 adopt me}} I need help with putting this article into the format preferred by Wikipedia. I don't understand exactly what the problem is. Thanks very much. Songcat (talk) 00:00, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HELP! THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG[edit]

There was a <ref> without a closing </ref>. When that happens, the page doesn't display all the text, because it treats a whole bunch of it as a reference.

I fixed it.

The references must always begin with <ref> and end with </ref>

If anything does go wrong, you can always click on the 'History' tab and 'Undo' your edit.  Chzz  ►  07:51, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re. Songcat[edit]

Hi. I see you're getting help from others, so I'll be very brief;

  • All the facts need reliable sources. "born on September 9, 1919", "a pioneering family transplanted from Asheville", "Her ancestors came of the slave-owning plantation class", and so on - all of them. We can only show verifiable information. No speculation, no original research, no novel synthesis.

I'm sorry, but I don't participate in the 'adopt' scheme. However, I do try to answer any questions that anyone asks me.

Best of luck with it all,  Chzz  ►  05:23, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chzz-- thanks... you've been great in helping me. I'm thinking of giving it up, but will see what I can come up with or delete some of the info on the ancestors my family are so proud of (not my mother-- she thinks slaveowning is rather disreputable)! I appreciate all your help. Songcat (talk) 14:30, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
