March 2008[edit]

When adding links to material on an external site, as you did to Sportin' Life (Mink DeVille album), please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:

  • If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
  • If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;

If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:12, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But the link is. :) If you read Wikipedia:Copyrights#Linking to copyrighted works, it may clarify for you. See also Wikipedia:ALBUM#External links and Wikipedia:EL#Restrictions on linking. We may link to websites that have license to duplicate the lyrics, but not ones that are in violation of copyright. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:18, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I can quickly remove the links. If you know of a website that has license for the lyrics, please feel free to include that. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:19, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've gotten them all. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:23, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mink DeVille[edit]

If you have a look at Wikipedia:Non-free content, especially the images section, that will explain why you are not allowed to use an album cover in the Mink DeVille infobox. I hope this clears up why it was removed. If you're still not sure I can get one of the admins to drop by to explain it further if you'd like. Fair use rationale[edit]

Hello, SpanishStroll. You have new messages at Moonriddengirl's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Just to note, in addition to what I say at my talk page, I have temporarily hidden the cover images from the article that do not have "fair use" rationales. (By putting <!--this--> around them.) We can't use them until they do. Again, I'd check at WP:MCQ to see what's usable. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:56, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About that Cabretta album cover[edit]

Greetings. Moonriddengirl asked me to comment about the image File:Cabretta.jpg and whether it can be used in the articles Cabretta, Mink DeVille, and Willy DeVille. We can only allow that image to be used in Cabretta. I'll explain why.

The album cover is a "non-free image", meaning it's copyrighted, and it's not available under a free license. Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, so we try to use "free images" wherever possible, and we have strict rules about how non-free images can be used. (Our rules are much stricter than other websites.) One of those rules is that album covers can only be used in articles about the album itself, not in an article about the artist. Sorry to bring bad news. – Quadell (talk) 22:11, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Peterlin[edit]

Hi, thanks for dropping me the message. I don't have any doubt that you're telling the truth about this, but unfortunately Wikipedia's core philosophy is "verifiability, not truth" (WP:V), and if you can't find a direct source for Peterlin's family heritage (other than the convoluted follow-the-dots you explained) it really should be deleted. I'm going to leave it as it is, because you took the time and trouble to leave me the detailed message, and I thank you for that... but don't be surprised if another editor removes the info because the lack of a citation! --JonBroxton (talk) 02:14, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Toots DeVille[edit]

Hi. Could you explain why you removed the info I had compiled and added to Willy De Ville's page regarding Susan Borsey (aka Toots DeVille). In what way was this info improperly formatted? The link you provide is to a blogsite which claims she died in 2005 but offers no evidence or proof. Thanks. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 22:44, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still waiting for a reply; please reply either on your talk page or mine. I do not wnat to unilaterally restore the edits you rv without your input. Thanks. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 21:14, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar for Willy DeVille / Mink DeVille[edit]

The Rock music Barnstar
I hereby award you this barnstar for your impressive work on Willy DeVille, Mink DeVille and all their albums. Thumbs up! Cheers. – IbLeo (talk) 20:51, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Willy DeVille studio albums[edit]

You are obviously familiar with a lot more of Willy DeVille´s solo work than I am, and I would be happy if you could give me some recommendations. For the moment I only own the two live albums, but I would like to dive into some of his studio albums as well. Where would you suggest me to start? Cheers. – IbLeo (talk) 19:20, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I replied to your kind advice over at my own talk page to keep the conversation in it's context. – IbLeo (talk) 21:52, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Willy-DeVille-Spanish Stroll-Willy-DeVille-Live.ogg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Willy-DeVille-Spanish Stroll-Willy-DeVille-Live.ogg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MBisanz talk 04:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
