New article

Hi Spencer,

My name's Anna and I just created my first page on Wikipedia- I'm new to this and am keen not to breach opr violate any of Wikipedia's rules.. I believe you suggested a 'speedy deletion' of it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vipac_Engineers_%26_Scientists and after receiving this message I deleted some aspects that may appear too much like advertising. I've looked on other technical company's pages: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AECOM and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffey_International as a point of reference.

As I said, I'm new to this but am keen to know where I went wrong and additional things I need to add or delete?

Can you please give me some recommendations?

Hello, Anna! Firstly, welcome to Wikipedia! As a general guide, I recommend reading Wikipedia:New contributors' help page. It contains some useful information about helping Wikipedia. Generally, it is recommended that you start by editing already existing pages on the Wiki, and then move on to creating new pages. However, if you wish to do this sooner, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• Make sure the article is impartial. This is why your previous article was nominated for deletion – it sounded too much like an advertisement!
• Make sure the article has plenty of references, especially ones to secondary sources.
• Ensure that the topic you're writing about is significant enough to be in the Wiki; this can be another reason for a 'speedy deletion'. (For more information on speedy deletions, see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion.)
• Verify that the article – or an extremely similar one – does not already exist. If it does, you might want to set up a Wikipedia:Redirect to the already existing article.

There are also numerous other ways to contribute to Wikipedia. Personally, I like to do Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol, where editors check the change logs for vandalism. Also, when commenting on talk pages (but not actual articles), don't forget to sign; do this by typing four tildes ("~") at the end of your message. BERT ALDRIDGE

Hi Spencer Not sure if I'm doing this correctly - I sent this to you yesterday after you marked my original submission as ' for deletion'

(your reason here) --Grahamquinlivan (talk) 18:06, 13 October 2013 (UTC) Hi Spencer I was a member of the Wyre Forest Morris Men a Cotswold tradition ) when this was an active morris dancing side; it folded around 2001. We often danced and sang in the Worcestershire (UK) village of Hartlebury, at the White Hart Inn. We had been told by locals of a version of morris dancing that was peculiar to their village, but that it had long ago died out. as a result of this,this article about Bert Aldridge was written and researched by the Wyre Forest Morris Men in 1997 - it went out as part of a press release and as information to visiting morris dancing sides to our day of dance. As indicated in the article, the Hartlebury History Society got hold of it and published it on their very inactive website - without, I add, our permission! However, we only knew of this when the information was used on the BBC programme mentioned in the article - I repeat, this was our research from 1997. I submit it now as we have occasional reunions, one of which has taken place this weekend; in discussion, we chatted about the old days and the subject of the Bert Aldridge Day of Dance came up; our archivist suggested that we could add this information to Wikipedia to expand the general sum of knowledge about Morris Dancing. Any copyright as such would belong to the Wyre Forest Morris Men

The principal issue with the article is that the content used was not in the public domain (or liscensed under Creative Commons, like Wikipedia content). The best way to create the article would be to rewrite the information in a fully original way, directly into WIkipedia. Please go ahead and contact me for any additional information. Hi Spencer -

A total newbie here to Wikipedia. I added some content to Wikipedia this eve for the Clean Energy Credentialing Coalition, an organization the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (www.irecusa.org) helped found recently.

I decided to delete it because I'm really not the contact for that organization. I referred to it instead as a link on the IREC page, of which I am a contact.

I've updated the most basic of content for IREC, but clearly it looks like I've got a lot more work to do to bring our page in Wikipedia up-to-date.

Do hope I've not violated any rules of Wikipedia. There's a lot to read and ingest.

There is most certainly a lot to "read and ingest". Here are a couple pointers to get you started:

• the reason the CECC page was problematic was due to the presence of non-free copyrighted content on the page. Instead of copying from the CECC (or IRCC, etc.) page, content should be rewritten for Wikipedia. See WP:Copyright for more information.
• as for the IREC page, it does appear as if that page could be significantly expanded. A couple of resources here are the article development guide and the Manual of Style.
• should you need additional assistance, there is a help page available for new editors. Additionally, feel free to leave a message on my talk page at any time!
• Finally, one last policy that I should remind you of is signing. When leaving a message on a talk page or any other non-encyclopedic page where users discuss and/or debate, you should sign your name at the end of every comment. Do this by inserting 4 tildes ("~") at the end of your message (like so: "~~~~"); this will automatically be converted into your signature when the page is saved.
