Elliot Minor

A tag has been placed on Elliot Minor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Steven Williamson (HiB2Bornot2B) - talk 21:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Elliot Minor

Elliot Minor, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Elliot Minor satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elliot Minor and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Elliot Minor during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Unspecified source for Image:NohAlamShah2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:NohAlamShah2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Chinese Singaporeans

Hi there

Just so you know, you've been tagging articles with a mal-formed tag: [{Category:Chinese Singaporeans]]. Note the brace instead of a bracket used? Could you please go through your contribs and check them all? --Rifleman 82 (talk) 10:07, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, of course you can. You took a while to respond, so I rollbacked the changes so that the errors won't be visible for long. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 11:19, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I recently declined your speedy here, please make sure that any articles you tag for speedy deletion meet one of the criteria for speedy deletion. In addition, although I'm sure it was accidental, your edit removed large parts of the article; it is customary to leave the article intact when tagging for speedy, so that the assessing admin can determine whether the article is really eligible. Any questions, please feel free to ask on my talk page. Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:47, 13 October 2008 (UTC).

Please stop adding unreferenced controversial biographical content to articles or any other Wikipedia page. Please sign your comments

As a courtesy to other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, and WikiProject pages. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will then be automatically added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info, read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Haji

In reply to your question, the prefix Haji, or Hadji is also used in Greek to denote previous travel to the Christian Holy Lands. It is a remnant of the Ottoman occupation of the Balkans. You can reaad more about it here. Cheers,StephP (talk) 18:04, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Categories

Hi. Please would you have a look at the policy WP:Biographies of living people, section Categories. It says "The article must state the facts that result in the use of the category tag and these facts must be sourced." What that means is, for example, is that we shouldn't add a "People of Hungarian descent" category to a biography unless the article mentions that the person is of Hungarian descent and has a citation to a reliable source which says so. Please don't keep adding descent or ethnic origin categories to biographies where there is no reliable source to justify their inclusion. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 15:37, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

You can't assume that a person is of Hungarian descent just because their name looks Hungarian. Descent is like any other fact on Wikipedia: we shouldn't assume it's true without a reliable source. To attach a descent category to a person, we need to include in the person's article a reliable published source that shows his/her parent or earlier ancestor is of that nationality; without that, the category is inappropriate. That's what the policy mentioned above says. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:11, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

February 2009

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions, including your edits to Justin Pierre. However, please be aware of Wikipedia's policy that biographical information about living persons must not be libelous. Any controversial statements about a living person added to an article, or any other Wikipedia page, must include proper sources. Thank you. k-i-a-c (hitmeup - the past) 17:10, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Ethnic origin categories

Please understand that Wikipedia's policy is very clear on the addition of categories to biographies of living people. Please read the relevant section, WP:BLP#Categories, which states: Category names do not carry disclaimers or modifiers, so the case for the category must be made clear by the article text. The article must state the facts that result in the use of the category tag and these facts must be sourced.

Specifically, note the word "must" which occurs several times in this wording. Without an explicit source in the article for the category in question, ethnic origin (or any other) categories should not be added to biographies of living people, and if unsourced categories are added, then they should be removed.

This has now been pointed out to you several times. If you persist in adding unsourced categories to biographical articles, it will be considered vandalism. Struway2 (talk) 09:48, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

I removed your edit to Simon Poulsen for the reason I gave on the talk page: that the case for the category must be backed up by sourced facts in the article; there are no such sourced facts in the article, so, by Wikipedia policy WP:BLP, the category must be removed. I know nothing of Mr Poulsen: if it's well-known that his father is Danish and his mother a Black African, then you should have no problem finding a source that says so which you can incorporate into the article, perhaps in a Personal life section.
A person with black skin is Black: that doesn't necessarily make them "of Black African ethnicity". A person with light-black skin may (or may well not) be mixed race: that certainly doesn't necessarily make them "of mixed Black African-European ethnicity". We can't decide, just by what someone looks like or what their parents look like, what their ethnic mix is. Wikipedia doesn't work like that.
If you can supply a reliable published source for a person's ethnicity, then it may be appropriate to add the relevant category. Without such a source, it isn't. Please read the policies on verifiability, WP:V, and its application to biographies of living people, WP:BLP, and try to understand why it's inappropriate and can be libellous for us to add material about real living people without published sources to back it up. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:08, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
That's right... but if a particular attribute of a person is really important enough to be worth categorising, it shouldn't be difficult to find mention of it in a reliable source. And according to what's near to being the mainstream evolutionary theory, we're all of Black African descent anyway, if you go back far enough... :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:05, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Bobby3.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Bobby3.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 16:22, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for drawing my attention to your picture of Bobby. It appears to be an Olive, but the colouring is not very clear. As the Dark mutation already has a picture of an Olive with rather clearer colour I'd rather not change it to yours. Thanks anyway. I don't suppose you have any more images, do you? --Trevor37 (talk) 19:37, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the second image. I've added it to Dark budgerigar mutation for now, but I'm not sure the addition is an improvement. --Trevor37 (talk) 09:04, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I have proposed the article for deletion. I don't think it should exist as a redirect as it's a pretty obscure title that people probably won't search for. Regards, GiantSnowman 16:04, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Grantham

So as not to fill the Grantham Talk Page. I understand what you tried to do, but as you put it, it looked bad. This is now down to linguistics and there are those that can get touchy about the subject, so I leave it well alone as it can be a minefield. North/South etc. I know the area and most say Gran-tham, but it often sounds as Gran-thum, and also as Granth-am and Granth-um. Now you see why I avoid the subject.--BSTemple (talk) 17:57, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

GA nominations

Hi spiderone. I noticed that you nominated both David Villa and Asafa Powell for good article status. While improvements to the articles are welcome, it is crucial that you first address the problems within those articles. Neither article is up to GA standard at the moment. It is also quite difficult to aid a reviewer in improvements when you have not contributed to the articles previously. Furthermore, it could be considered impolite behaviour for the users writing the articles; imposing a premature GA nomination puts added pressure on them to write with unnecessary speed. Please see the discussion here for more info. Take care. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)WIKIPROJECT ATHLETICS NEEDS YOU! 17:13, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Patrick Kisnorbo

I'm not reviewing the Patrick Kisnorbo article for GA, but I hope you don't mind a friendly word of advice. The main thing I noticed is that the lead of the article needs to be significantly longer in order to adequately summarise the article (see the Length section of WP:LEAD for guidance). Hope this is helpful and good luck with the GA review. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 19:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to but in, but I noticed the article severly lacks references too - the entire first section under "Career" is unreferenced. A good idea would to be to get a peer review done before nominating to get some constructive criticism. Hope this helps. --Jimbo[online] 13:10, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. Ealdgyth - Talk 19:01, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

I'll check it in the morning when my head doesn't pound like a bass drum. What I saw earlier looked like progress was being made. --Ealdgyth - Talk 22:49, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Most of it looks good, but still a few concerns that I've detailed on the review page. Lots of good work though! Much improved. --Ealdgyth - Talk 14:40, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

help request...

Hello ! I know you don't normally have much to do with the Romania National Football Team page, but I was wondering whether you could perhaps take a moment to look at it and try to fix the alignment of the Top Goalscorers and Past Managers tables, when you have a minute. The 2 tables are somehow fused together and I'm unable to fix it ! Thanks in advance...--Marc-Olivier Pagé (talk) 05:30, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

The article Zesh Rehman you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. Yes, I think changing it simply to the name of the club would be best. I see the other editors' point, but quite frankly just dropping in a nickname randomly without saying who the nickname is referring to is very confusing. I'd like to congratulate you on all your hard work. I really appreciate how fast you're responding to the comments I've left, and I'm very impressed! Hey Spiderone,

I agree with you mate, that's why i try to improve the article's quality. Recently, i've seen that a user have removed some of sections (i.e. controversy) with no explanation that made me upset, indeed. I have tried to tell her/him to make changes with more care. I will try to fix the article asap.

I've never done assessments, but I'd say it depends whether you think the absence of personal life stuff makes it "mostly complete", in which case B, or still "missing important content". It's not much worse than Simon Wormull, which is a good article, and it's got an action picture :-) The "great work" bit is very kind but perhaps a slight exaggeration... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:19, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view previous uploads by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'file' namespace from the drop down box (or see [1]). Ghanian Footballer AfD's

Given that in one of the AfD discussions you say you have added the Ghanian Lge to the FPL list, are you therefore going to withdraw the AfD's for those players who have competed in that league? Eldumpo (talk) 22:18, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I suppose. Not the others though. Spiderone (talk) 08:02, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Good. Can you do the withdrawals soon then, in order to create some space on the article deletion listings. Also, under the William Mensah AfD one of your comments suggests you may be accepting the professional status of the Egyptian League, in which case could you also de-list those. I don't have a reference I was just basing it on his middle name. ArtVandelay13 (talk) 15:25, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Jermaine Jones

It's from the New York Times, so I would say it was reliable, yes. GiantSnowman 15:28, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

WP:FOOTY AfD archiving

Hi. Please don't forget that when you remove closed AfDs from the listing at WP:FOOTY, you should then make a note of the result at the Deletion archive. Thanks, GiantSnowman 08:58, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Comment

Your comment here was rude. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Meshal Hameed. Please refrain from accusing people of "making things up". I'll see what I can find on the level of professionalism of the team but try to assume good faith. Apologies again for the "brown people" comment. I was trying to make a point about elitism not race. After looking at more edits you seem to be working against the creation of any stubs that look like they will not go anywhere. Nothing wrong with that at all but if you asserted lack of significant coverage in deletion discussions or attempted to fix articles there might be some value to Wikipedia. Maybe not. I personally have been adamant that some articles were never going to amount to anything worthwhile and have been proven wrong. Try it out for a bit. If you cannot find sources then go for deletion but you might be proven incorrect in some cases. Give the subject matter the benefit of the doubt and strongly urge the editor to find some sources. Deletion for many of the bios you are have expressed concerns with have valid reasoning but you have walked the line of biting noobs, not fixing it yourself, and a weird mix of bureaucracy and wikilawyerism. I honestly don;t think you are trying to come across that way but your blanket concern of any footy related stubs are causing a problem. You can get pissed at me if you want. I am just trying to give you some constructive criticism on how your editing style is coming across to others. I think Sikkim football team is a perfect example of a subject that might have coverage but you focused too much on certain guidelines since it was assumed that a decent article could not be created. Correct me if I am wrong of course. I am just saying what it looks like. That being said, Meshal Hameed plays for a professional team (from what it looks like) but will not have an article that is of any value to the project and should probably be deleted. It is OK to say this article sucks but forcing the deletion on incorrect criteria is inappropriate.Cptnono (talk) 13:04, 18 August 2009 (UTC)`

Jacob Adams

I have tagged for a speedy delete Jacob Adam (1997) and have reverted vandalism to Jacob Adam (Austrian Copper Etcher), so if you could withdraw that last nom, that's be great. Cheers, GiantSnowman 16:44, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Jacob Adam (Austrian Copper Etcher)

I've closed the AfD (allowed under WP:NAC) as you withdrew the nomination, and there were no votes either way. Cheers, GiantSnowman 17:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Kinkladze

One actionable oppose is all it takes for an FAC to fail. The thing that stops me renominating is the lack of a free image of Kinkladze himself. There was one in the infobox, but there was an issue with OTRS ticket, and the user who uploaded it disappeared. So the image got deleted. Oldelpaso (talk) 16:45, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm not understanding where your "It seems the first keep vote is now invalid since it was revolving around a source about a different player" is coming from. The person who made that Keep vote seems to be adamant. A player for that name certainly plays and scores goals for that team, according to FIFA - http://www.fifa.com/associations/association=irq/nationalleague/date=052009.html Nfitz (talk) 04:17, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

I've removed the prod. The Japanese Wikipedia page does show an appearance. Nfitz (talk) 04:39, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Removing POB from DOB

Seeing as you're doing this to lots of articles, thought I'd make a comment. I can see why you might move the POB, but you seem to be deleting it completely. Surely better to move to later in the introductory paragraphs - and best not to move it the sections on 'career' as being born does not form part of a career. 8lgm (talk) 21:27, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

re your response, and apologies for being so blunt, but that is absolute rubbish! Proof as follows: look at Steve Bruce, a featured article and POB clearly in text and not just in infobox. Manual of style clearly has it in Biography section, not just in infobox. Just deleting from DOB and not replacing somewhere else is just lazy. I will take to WP:FOOTY if you still disagree to get a wider consensus and if you continue to write mistruths to suit your opinions or actions, I will continue to publicly correct them. 8lgm (talk) 09:13, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Now you're really clutching at straws. That has absolutely nothing to do with what I said about removing places of birth. You could just admit you were wrong...8lgm (talk) 16:02, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Baichung Bhutia

There's quite a few minor fixes that need to be addressed. If you can make sure everything questionable is sourced then there is no reason why it can't. --Jimbo[online] 11:51, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Can you please wait for sometime, I am also modifying baichung bhutia page.

GAN notice

Hi Spiderone, you currently have at least one article up a WP:GAN in the Sports and recreation section. In an attempt to clear out the backlog there, User:Wizardman asked all sports WikiProjects to review at least two articles from that section. I'm now going around and asking anybody with an article nominated under Sports and recreation to review at least one article in that section to help us clear the backlog out so your articles can finally be reviewed faster! iMatthew talk at 15:09, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
