Proposed deletion of ArpON[edit]

The article ArpON has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I couldn't establish that this meets WP:NOTABILITY

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of ArpON for deletion (my reply)[edit]

Hello,

I'm sorry but I don't understand what is the problem of ArpON page with WP policies. This page describes correctly the principal keys of the ArpON Open source project as all others Free Software projects describe in the WP. The all informations about ArpON has been take from the original web site of the project:

http://arpon.sourceforge.net

This page is not to commercial scope because ArpON is born as Open source project for the Open source community with BSD license.

Please, can you describe which is the wrong?

Thank you. Spikeyrock, 14:28, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Hey Spikey, first off let me say welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad that you're here. about your question on your article that is currently up for deletion. the best place to discuss the deletion is going to be here but let me give you some help. the problem with the article looks like a notability problem the guideline has an article you can read here WP:N that covers how notable things should be to be considered to be in Wikipedia. Also another problem is the article doesn't have any references. I hope that regardless of the outcome in the deletion process you consider being active on Wikipedia there is something here for everyone. If you have any questions feel free to ask I'm happy to help you out. Bryce Carmony (talk) 14:45, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bryce, I just modified the page of ArpON where I added the references from ubuntu.com e books.google.com. Now the page of ArpON is the same of the page of Arpwatch (I used this page as model because this page has not problems with WP policies):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arpwatch

What other fix can I do for WP?

Thank you. Spikeyrock, 16:15, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Hey Spikey, so the main problem with references to the manual in Ubuntu is that we would consider that a primary source (just like information from the website itself would be considered primary) when what we ideally want to see to show notability is a secondary source, for example if there was News coverage from trusted secondary sources (Academic articles, Reviewed journals, "trusted" news sources, etc) So some references are better than no references. but odds are if there isn't second parties covering the topic. it won't meet the notability threshold. There's a great article that covers this better then I explain it here WP:NOR it's a great read and really outlines the sort of references needed to form an article. Bryce Carmony (talk) 15:34, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

With the new references from books, research articles and web site, is the page of ArpON ok? Thank you. Spikeyrock, 19:35, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

So like I said I can't make the judgment on the article, you'd want to discuss that in the AFD (articles for deletion) page. I was just offering some guidelines for you. I'll check out the article and see if I should change my vote though. no one editor decides if articles get deleted or not, we work with discussion to try and reach a general agreement among everyone. Bryce Carmony (talk) 18:47, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, thank you so much for you time and patience. Spikeyrock, 19:50, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

no problem, Wikipedia is a community everyone's article was their first at one time. I was really impressed with the break down on the references getting exact pages on multiple books and really flushed it out. looks a lot better. as a guideline the way an article looks doesn't mean something is notable, but when you can get lots of references from secondary sources its a good sign of notability, If you have time you can always check out Portal:Free software your talent as an editor and knowledge in the area could help a lot. Hi, I would tell thank you so much for your work! Spikeyrock, 10:27, 1 April 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.33.107.242 (talk) 09:26, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, in this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/ArpON, I readed "Nomination withdrawn Boleyn (talk) 06:25, 1 April 2015 (UTC)" but in the page of ArpON appears again "This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policy.". Is there a new problem with policies of WP? Thank you. Spikeyrock, 15:10, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
