Draft picks

Just wanted to let you know that there's a discussion on the talk page of the WikiProject Ice Hockey page about the format of draft picks pages; whether we should go with sortable tables (like the Colorado page which is up for FLC) or broken up by year (like the Devils page I'm working on in my sandbox). Feel free to chip in your $0.02. Also, my list of Carolina Panthers first-round draft picks is up for FLC; if you wanna check it out and offer any comments/support/hate lol I'd appreciate it, thanks. Stevens sounds like a plan. Do we have enough resources on him that we could make it FA? Brodeur wrote a book, so we used that as background info; we're gonna have to use interviews and websites to get stuff on Stevens. Also, I'm working on turning the Devils draft picks and players lists into featured lists; once we do, we can definitely turn the NJ Devils into a featured topic (team, Brodeur, draft picks, players... and hopefully Stevens). Do'h! Admittedly this was my first attempt at a Good Article review and I think I may have got it amazingly wrong (It wouldn't be the first time) and misunderstood how the whole operation works! Since my queries have been addressed you could relist the article and allow someone with a vague idea of what they're doing review it instead. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status. Diacritics By Maxim In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt. Task forces By Maxim There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics. Sweden Ice Hockey task force This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES. New Jersey Devils task force This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock. Requested Images By Maxim After discussion on the WikiProject talk page, Serte created a page for Requested Images. The page encourages users to license images for use on articles. The page also has section to request images for players, arenas, game situations, miscellaneous, and team and league logos. The page has been quite popular; since it was created on July 21, there have been six completed requests. There are four currently outstanding requests: Patrik Eliáš — Photo of player, requested by Bsroiaadn Scott Stevens — Photo of player, requested by Bsroiaadn Daniel Alfredsson — Photo of player, requested by Maxim Hart Trophy — Photo of the original Hart Trophy (retired in 1960), requested by Scorpion0422 Article assessement completed By Maxim On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a {{ice hockey}} tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. This effort took around 5 months. A big thanks goes to Kaiser matias from me and all the project.

J.D. Watt has been declined at WP:AFD. Drafts related to the OHL have been published! Task forces By The Pancake of Heaven! We are working to create a new task force within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It hasn't been created yet; but it aims to expand articles based on former and current Pittsburgh Penguins players and articles. Good luck! New Administrators Currently 0 promoted admins! Be the first one at WP:RFA. Featured Topic Drive By Maxim The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Hey, I don't know how busy you are, but if you have some time, would you please take a look at the Scott Stevens article? I've put it up for peer review, and I know the vast majority of the article is acceptable, but the lead sucks, and I've never been good at writing the lead. News from the diamond The 79th MLB All-star Game is scheduled for this evening. The 2008 Home Run Derby took place yesterday. Justin Morneau defeated Josh Hamilton in the final round, 5 home runs to 3, although Hamilton broke a record with 28 home runs hit in the first round. From the Editors Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, "The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29
