Lang-en vs. Literal translation

[edit]

Hi Ssven, re: this, I was the one who converted the translation from "English" to {{Literal translation}}, because someone at WikiProject Film made a very good point that we don't need to be told that the thing we're reading is English. We speak English. We can tell. Additionally, if this is not the official English title, then it should not be italicised. Also, though I know you didn't add it, Indic script is not preferred in infoboxes per WP:NOINDICSCRIPT. Even when it was, it would have belonged in |film_name= like any other film's native title. Regards and a Happy New Year to you, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 09:51, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyphoidbomb: Point taken, Cyphoidbomb. Happy New Year to you too!  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:55, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks man! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:41, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ssven and Cyphoidbomb, wish you both a very Happy New Year. As for this new template about "literal translations", how useful would it be when a film's title's has a figurative meaning, and the literal translation is hard to generate? E.g.: "Nau Do Gyarah" literally means "Nine Two Eleven", but it is derived from a Hindi idiom "Nau Do Gyarah hona" meaning "run away". Another case is when the most accurate literal translation of "Koodi Vazhnthal Kodi Nanmai" could be "Being united will bring a crore benefits", since "kodi" means "crore" (10 million). But the Tamil proverb, contextually, does not strictly mean only one crore. --Kailash29792 (talk) 09:10, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Kailash29792, Happy new year. Excellent points. I could see there being value in providing both translations, if warranted, a la (lit. Nine two eleven; fig. Run away.) Maybe what we need is a template for Figurative translation, just to make it easier for folks to figure out what "fig" means. If we do the figurative translation, it would be interesting to know how "nine two eleven" means "run away", but I imagine that could prove problematic to source. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:00, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks.... as a topic

[edit]

Hey, I don't mean to be a cranky old bastard (too late!), but thanking people fr every edit they make is overkill. It dilutes the meaning of the thanks... just sayin' Lingzhi ♦ (talk) 13:05, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I get that sometimes, and thanked you again, LOL. Its just that I'm a nice guy (not to praise myself so much) or I try to be.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 13:26, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
By coincidence, just today I was mildly scolded by my Better Half for an incident in which I was trying to thank someone for doing me a favor, but my thanks embarrassed that person, who then began apologizing for.... whatever reason. Cultural difference. Lingzhi ♦ (talk) 13:30, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hope you both made up to each other. Cheers, Lingzhi. I'm glad we had this talk.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 13:36, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I must tell you this. I was going to give you a barnstar and had almost posted but then I clicked back button (on my phone) and it went away. Then I scrapped the idea as The Post was about to start. LOL. While picking up the popcorn, I got the notification about DDD passing its review. So I didn't want to miss the opening as I prefer watching from the start to end. Rollback

[edit]

Hi Ssben2! I'm messaging you about this edit here. You used rollback to revert this edit, but it doesn't appear to be blatant vandalism. Am I missing something? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:20, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oshwah, the word "dialogue" doesn't need to be starting in capital letters and in bold. That's why I reverted it. This was done in good faith.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:24, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah no worries; I figured as much :-). Just remember that using rollback without an edit summary is typically reserved for reverting vandalism and some other edits - I just want to make sure you knew just in case. Wikicup GA Reviews

[edit]

Ssven, I'm afraid that reviews like this one are not substantive enough to count towards the Wikicup. While you've checked all the boxes, it would appear that the article had no issues, and so the review process was very short. Current consensus is that while such reviews are sometimes inevitable, they do not require enough work to be eligible for points; it would be the same with quick fails. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 05:33, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I kind of expected Ramandu's Daughter wouldn't make it. BTW, Vanamonde93, Kal Ho Naa Ho has passed the GA review. It was created back in 2004 and it also has a DYK from the same year too. Please do calculate the bonus points for it. Thank you.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 06:53, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The bot should calculate the bonus points at the next pass; if it fails to do so, I will do it manually. Vanamonde (talk) 07:15, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Vanamonde93.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:18, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vanamonde93, I think the bot only added the bonus points for the article, not for the DYK (5 bonus points, I believe) and its creation back in 2004. Do kindly verify it. Thank you.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:50, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mani Ratnam filmography

[edit]

Hey, can I ask how the version you reverted to is more "stable"? [1] While making the changes, you blindly edited out lyrics and acting credits. I ensured that everything was safely adapted into the new format - and there were no problems to "stability" whatsoever with my changes. There was arguably more "stability" - taking his legacy into account, Mani Ratnam has so little to do with films like Taj Mahal and Five Star. The new model was actually taken from the Satyajit Ray filmography - again, another film-maker known for his directing rather than his other contributions. Hope you can at least discuss this. Editor 2050 (talk) 13:56, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps Ssven2 felt those changes were too major for a FL. I think Vensatry (who took it to that level) would feel the same and revert, although I would contemplate a FLR if I found the changes too large and in need of a consensus. --Kailash29792 (talk) 15:11, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you - but there is little change to the content. Merely re-shifted and sources added à la Satyajit Ray filmography. I do think it's important to distinguish his directorial projects from ones he's merely financed for profit. Hopefully this can be adapted. Editor 2050 (talk) 20:42, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Editor 2050, I feel the Satyajit Ray format is better; once Ratnam has made a few more films, I think I will take it to FLR. Vensatry, what do you think? ----Kailash29792 (talk) 04:02, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's nice to hear - but why wait for several years? The proposed version works better now? Why does it have to be taken to FLR? Editor 2050 (talk) 12:13, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's better if we stick to the current version; it's good to have everything under "one roof" as it helps in easy navigation. Have a look at the filmography pages of James Cameron and Alfred Hitchcock for instance. As for Ray, it's difficult to accommodate all of his works in a single table because (unlike Mani Ratnam) he wore many caps and his body work is humongous. Vensatry (talk) 18:20, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Are you aware that this category was created? It's just one of several new categories created by User:Ratsama. Do you think the category should even exist?. ----Kailash29792 (talk) 08:12, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Intha kelvi thangalukke vedikkaiyaaga illai, Kailash29792? All of them fit into the "Lists of accolades by film" category.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:21, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree, more than 20 Kollywood film has Lists of accolades article. If that so, there wouldn't be any category Malayalam actor or Telugu actors, all should be fit in Indian film actors. Ratsama (talk) 08:27, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Lists of accolades by award winner article and "Lists of accolades by film" category cover films of all countries/regions and should be quite enough. If you still insist, we can maybe get around to creating a category titled "Lists of accolades by Indian films" encompassing all Indian films with accolades lists irrespective of language rather than separate Kollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood etc. How about that?  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:32, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What Ssven says is correct. Creating "Lists of accolades by Indian films" helps easy categorisation, given there aren't that many Indian film accolades lists. --Kailash29792 (talk) 08:45, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

[edit]

I recently saw it and loved it so much. There is something about this film which is haunting, I don't know why. What I really can't decide is who was a hero or the villain (Randal vs Nurse Ratched). After watching it I headed to the IMDB to look for the reviews from people, mostly to find out whether other people' opinions was similar to mine or not. To my surprise, not really. All those people took Randal's side while I did not take anyone's. I thought it was one of those films where the audience should not take any sides because all characters are flawed. I don't agree that Nurse Ratched is a villain and Randal is a hero. What did you think after watching it?Krish | Talk 20:55, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Both are flawed characters. Think ‘’Mohabbatein’’ and you will understand who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy. 😊  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 04:11, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I said. I did not think of Randal as a hero and Nurse Ratched as a villain. Randal himself was a criminal (a rapist of a minor) and Nurse Ratched was basically doing her job (very strict). So basically it's Randal who should be villain NOT Nurse Ratched but the audience is made to sympathize with Randal and the other neurotic people in that ward. But I thought all of them as deeply flawed people with good intentions.Krish | Talk 12:12, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This made me think: many people say that the characters in Game of Thrones are ambiguous; no-one is truly good or bad. But then there are characters like Ramsay and Joffrey who I'd consider downright evil, undeniable. ----Kailash29792 (talk) 04:15, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Game of Thrones is more like the study of human behavior and I like Cercei Lannister more than many of the characters. But yes Joffery and Ramsay were "evil minded" as opposed to Cercei who is more like an anti-heroine to me. The society made her the way she is but we can't say the same for Joffery or Ramsay, who never show any redeeming qualities in the show. I think the same can be said about the film because I did not take anyone's sides. I was appalled that people see Nurse Ratched as a Villain (AFI second best female Villain).Krish | Talk 12:12, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Correction, fifth, not second.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:17, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am talking about female villains.Krish | Talk 12:18, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Male or female, aged or young, the fact that we see "deeply flawed" characters instead of blacks and whites i. e. plain villains is nothing but an attempt to justify the actions of the unpredictable human mind. And it is surely worse when the line is very clear. Just saying. Pavanjandhyala 02:01, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What's up? How are you? It's been a very long time since we last talked.Krish | Talk 11:09, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fine. Thanks. I am however, highly displeased and disappointed in what has been transpiring between you, Shahid and Krimuk. I really hope you guys sort it out.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:13, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think Krimuk ever will. He just accepted that he was hating on me even when we were taking nicely, so I doubt it. As far as Shahid goes, I think we can work out our differences.Krish | Talk 11:17, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Keechaka Vadham

[edit]

I see you nominated this article for FA. I just saw your name when you wrote to Brianboulton. He reviewed my FAC.

If you would like, I am willing to review your FA. I have never reviewed a FA but would try to do it well. If you would like to review my FAC, I have nominated https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/WestJet_Encore/archive1 . I have never tried to write a FA. This WestJet Encore is my first attempt.

I do not know much about Indian films but I have visited Tamil Nadu before. Vanguard10 (talk) 18:06, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vanguard10, nice to meet you BTW. I will review your FAC tomorrow but I'll only look at the prose though as I don't quite know the reliability of the references/sources. So, QPQ then? Okay.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 18:14, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That will help the backlog. I will look at Keechka Vadham. Vanguard10 (talk) 19:47, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your comments in the FAC. I addressed them there and made corrections in the article. Vanguard10 (talk) 03:43, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Vanguard10, thank you for your time at my FAC. Your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:20, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! The article is now a FA! Vanguard10 (talk) 20:14, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rajinikanth filmed scenes for Ra.One

[edit]

...Or did he? This and this explain his "contributions" to the film. So do you think Ra.One should still appear in Rajinikanth filmography? Should Enthiran still mention "Rajinikanth featured in a cameo role as Chitti in the science-fiction film Ra.One (2011)"? ----Kailash29792 (talk) 14:45, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely yes, Kailash29792. He did do motion capturing for the film during post-production as per the article(s). So, let it be there in the filmography and Enthiran .  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 14:50, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ssven2, I thought that I'd let you know that you can start with the article anytime you like, I have an exam tomorrow (post colonial studies, the most interesting subject that I have!), so I'll start tomorrow evening at the latest. VedantTalk 06:42, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, Vedant. I'm about to see the film to get a better understanding of what I'm dealing with.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:01, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Theatrical tribute award
For your persistent efforts in bringing Keechaka Vadham to FA status within the limited scope, thereby keeping up your word. You should be duly honoured for the same, sir. Pavanjandhyala 06:58, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, Pavanjandhyala. Much appreciated.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:02, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Legend of Bhagat Singh is my next along with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing. Missouri with Numerounovedant.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 13:29, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nice, progressive films that were ahead of their time. Not my cup of tea, though. I prefer the regressive and evil. Good luck, sir! Pavanjandhyala 07:32, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just a small thank you for reviewing my Edna Mode article! Changedforbetter (talk) 13:56, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pleasure to do so, Changedforbetter. Nice looking Cupcake BTW. My favourite part in her role is where she says her vocal password "EDNA MODE.....(SNIPER RIFLE POPS UP IN FRONT OF HELEN).....NO CAPES (SOFLTY, THEN DOOR SLIDES OPEN)". LMAO.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 14:01, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's a great scene! My all-time favourite would have to be when Helen/Elastigirl has just found out Bob has been lying to her about hero work so she's crying, so Edna hits her over the head with a rolled-up newspaper telling her to "PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER!" I can't wait to see what she does in the sequel.--Changedforbetter (talk) 15:27, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Legend of Bhagat Singh

[edit]

Hello:

I've given The Legend of Bhagat Singh a copy edit as requested. I think there's a problem with this footnote:

"While the film's details on Box Office India state that the budget was ₹200 million,[1] Shubhra Gupta of Business Line says that ₹200 million was spent on the film's making.[2]"

The rupee amounts are the same. This should be checked and fixed.

Do let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Patnagarh parcel bomb

[edit]

Patnagarh bombing. I started this. I ask nothing, just letting you know that I started this stub. There is a film being made about it.

Thank you for reviewing WestJet Encore a month ago. It is finally a FA! Vanguard10 02:06, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like to start a DYK with me? Vanguard10 02:58, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Some initial ideas: DYK...that a fatal* parcel bomb in Orissa led to an arrest* after a suspect*, a disgruntled colleague of the groom's mother*, allegedly sent an anonymous* letter to the police months after the bombing*?
  • = source available in the article but need to add the citation after each cited fact
Another idea for the hook is that some computer evidence was sent to Israel. Yet another idea is that a film is being made of the incident.
If you don't want to do a DYK with me but know somebody in India that might be interested, let me know. I can do it myself but welcome collaboration.
To be honest Vanguard10, I don't have much experience with DYKs. I have just started one quite recently on The Legend of Bhagat Singh. Why don't you ask Krimuk2.0. I did too.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:35, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you had lots of experience in DYK. I saw you had one and assumed that you had many because you are, in general, a good editor! I can do my own DYK but I like to work with other nice people, like you. I will visit Krimuk2.0 page to meet him or her. Vanguard10 15:55, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vikram Vedha

[edit]

Hello:

The copy edit you request from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Vikram Vedha has been completed.

I rewrote the plot section to reduce its length to under 700 words. (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Film#Plot) You will want to check it carefully to make sure I haven't made a mistake, since I have not seen the film Its current length is 684 words so there is not much room to work with. If it can be reduced closer to 400 words that is even better.

Also I have removed (and always remove) the spaces in the headings. They are unnecessary and have no effect on how they are displayed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Good luck with the GAN.

Regards,

Like Vedha, the other lead of the two of the film GAN this man is currently working on, said to Mr. Ravi at the harbour, "If you want to get your work done, you must stop worrying about who and where." Good luck. Pavanjandhyala 08:46, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for letting us know, take some flowers on your way. Gladiolas from the bride's garden were the flowers for my parents' wedding, on 30 July. I share them in loving memory, with a touch of art, and good wishes. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:44, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Gerda Arendt and thank you for the lovely flowers.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:50, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are quite a few comments by Vedant that I agree with, but find it hard to solve. If you are in the mood, could you please help? --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:57, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Burton

[edit]

Why do you keep adding Neath Port Talbot to his place of birth? He was born in 1925, Neath Port Talbot came into existence in 1996, after he died. Only Glamorgan should be there. Samuel J Walker (talk) 09:58, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I checked it out and you seem to be correct there. My bad. I've been working on taking him to at least GA status and now I'm not getting the time to do so. I will get him there eventually.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:20, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Sorry if I came off as a little brash in my original comment. Samuel J Walker (talk) 10:24, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Publisher field

[edit]

As per Template:Cite web, "Do not use the publisher parameter for the name of a work (e.g. a website, book, encyclopedia, newspaper, magazine, journal, etc.)." That is why the "website" parameter exists. Please do not forget this. But thanks a ton for your recent efforts on Mullum Malarum! --Kailash29792 (talk) 07:26, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Amaravathi may have preceded Prema Pusthakam

[edit]

This source says PP came on 16 July 1993, which is a month after Amaravathi. Can you please rewrite the lead in Ajith Kumar filmography as I'm a bit preoccupied? Yuvaz MJ has already made a change. --Kailash29792 (talk) 04:46, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thamizhan1994

[edit]

Sad, isn't it? He returns after two years, only to announce retirement. But I wish him the best. --Kailash29792 (talk) 14:33, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: Didn't expect this sudden announcement but then again, he has been busy in real life. All the best to him as well.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:14, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I had intended for Thamizhan1994 to be the co-nominator for Thiruvilaiyadal and Mouna Ragam's FACs, but now that he's retired, would you be willing to take his place? I've already listed the former at the GOCE. --Kailash29792 (talk) 13:48, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: A peer review would be ideal after the GOCE. Then we can go for FAC if that's alright.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 03:43, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll open the PR after the GOCE editing finishes. But for you to be worthy as co-nominator, would you please improve the article at least slightly? A lot can be taken from this existing review. --Kailash29792 (talk) 09:05, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There is a line reading " Principal photography began in October 1957 with a puja", with this as the source. It contains clippings of articles, and which is the exact article? Is it the Thendral Thirai article or the Indian Movie News article? Because we should cite the original article, not the hosting site Mayyam. Once I reformat the source and add a few more refs (bringing the ref count to 100), I'll take it to FAC, and if you don't mind, I'll list you as co-nominator. --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:06, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

By all means. But try for a PR first. I'll call in some editors.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:22, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for agreeing. You still haven't answered my first question though: which is the article in the Mayyam page referring to the beginning of principal photography? --Kailash29792 (talk) 04:17, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The IMN Singapore one. It mentions "Thiraikaaviya thuvakka vizha" which obviously refers to the muhurat shot.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:39, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Padayappa

[edit]

Hi, regarding this revert of yours, I didn't understand the edit summary. Can you please tell me what do you mean by They haven't been included in the article yet? Thanks Vivek Ray (talk) 11:30, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vivek Ray, the portion "" shows that the info hasn't been included in the main article yet and that the reference formatting will be done so by me after I procure more information. However, if you wish to do the formatting yourself, you can go ahead. Don't take my revert as an act of bad faith.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:07, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, missed that the section was commented. My bad! Vivek Ray (talk) 16:12, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

After reaching out to several other people wit no reply, I was wondering if you would like to review an article I nominated for GA: Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes. I ask because we had such a good working relationship when we worked on the Lest We Forget: The Best Of and Pocahontas articles together. Thanks for your consideration!MagicatthemovieS (talk) 17:09, 3 October 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]

It has been opened. Please attract reviewers. Or will they come by themselves? --Kailash29792 (talk) 04:30, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MM FAC

[edit]

I'll be travelling for four days, beginning Wednesday and ending Saturday. Until then, can you take care of MM? Cinemavum Naanum may have the answers to some questions raised by the FAC reviewers, particularly Veera Narayanan. --Kailash29792 (talk) 17:23, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do my best but even I'm a bit busy for the next couple of weeks. I will try to get a look at it when I get the time.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:47, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The one obstacle in bringing it to GAN is lack of reliable info on the songs. Can you find any songs here? --Kailash29792 (talk) 11:29, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chekced and double-checked it. Nothing here on the songs.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:55, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
When are you gonna start reviewing? I've already nominated it. --Kailash29792 (talk) 17:40, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The last week of this December if that's alright.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 04:27, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel that's good, okay. But I thought you offered to review it sooner to avoid missing the deadline. --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:19, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
An editor can register for the WikiCup anytime between December-January (Before and during Round 1, but not after Round 1).  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:16, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have nominated the article for GA. When would you like to start reviewing? --Kailash29792 (talk) 14:19, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
One New year's day, Kailash if that's alright.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 17:14, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just a reminder to begin the GAR tomorrow. Also do source-reading wherever possible. --Kailash29792 (talk) 04:44, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Happy new year Ssven. Can we begin the GAR? Kailash29792 (talk) 05:42, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I know you are interested in films and I would greatly appreciate it if you would review the (very short) article for Born Villain which I nominated for GA. We've worked well together before, so this project will probably be short & sweet. Thanks so much!MagicatthemovieS (talk) 22:55, 22 October 2018 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS[reply]

Challenge

[edit]

Hi, hope you're well! The idea was when the challenge reaches the target we up it to 2500 or 5000! If you've had enough of it fair enough but that was the idea. :-).♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:28, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DOC!!!!! How I've missed you so! Hope everything is going well with your good self! Ok, then we'll up it up right now! You can move the article improvement up to 2000 for starters.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:46, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Haha! How are you! OK I'll move it. Hope the film watching is still going well!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:56, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Film watching's going just fine. Seeing a lot of latest regional films and the content of Indian films have improved. You can view my 2017 and 2018 films here if you wanna do some latest film watching.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:04, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Impressed with how many 40s films you've seen. Also interesting how we agree on certain films being the best of the year!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:30, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr. Blofeld: If you carefully see the 40s section, I've included the cartoon shorts of Tom and Jerry as well as Looney Tunes as they also had theatrical releases. As for as best of the year (and decade) are concerned, it was a difficult task to choose among them the best of the decade though as they are all so good and sumptuously served to film buffs like me and you. Double Indemnity was finally my pick for best of the decade as it had everything you need in a quintessential thriller, whodunit and noir film (Characters with a shroud of mystery about them, a femme fatale, the person who decides to solve the case and the criminal getting caught at the end after confessing. Also, this film made people take Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck seriously as actors as they were more renowned for comedies and romantic dramas at the time. Edward G. Robinson, who was also sort of an anti-hero, is playing a no-nonsense straight-forward person here. So, all are cast against type, which added to the film's speciality.) The films I chose for best of the year were chosen because they were the best films anyone would have seen.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:41, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Does this source say that M. Balamuralikrishna initially wanted to act as Hemanatha Bagavathar, but Nagarajan denied him the offer? And is there anything more worth adding from Kalki's review? --Kailash29792 (talk) 05:30, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, per se, because Nagarajan believed that the character of Hemanatha Bhagavathar suited Balaiah more than Balamuralikrishna and that the former would be able to emote the character better. As for as Kalki is concerned, nothing much is really there except the usual praises that most of the other reviews have bestowed upon this film. Maybe you can add that the film is a "victory for Tamil cinema".  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 05:36, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Christmas!
Hello Ssven2,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 21:10, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Aww, thank you so much, MarnetteD. That's so kind of you! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance to you too!  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 04:18, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think there are any concerns raised at the PR to be addressed yet? Ditto for Thiruvilaiyadal. Either way, I think I'll take this to FAC only after Sathi Leelavathi's GAN. --Kailash29792 (talk) 09:50, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kailash29792, first VK, then Thiruvilaiyadal if that's ok.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:35, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's exactly what I want (although I also intend to open a PR for Mullum Malarum and attempt another FAC as co-nominator; hope you don't mind) But can you please solve Moisejp's comments at the PR which I cannot? Once you do, please ping him. But I'm pretty sure Vasan's Kattabomman spent years in development hell, hence it could not have been dropped in the same year as announcement. --Kailash29792 (talk) 17:07, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Christmas!

[edit]
Methinks I see an heavenly Host
Of angels on the wing;
Methinks I hear their cheerful notes,
So merrily they sing.

Let all your fears be banished hence,
Glad tidings I proclaim;
For there's a Savior born today
And Jesus is his name.

Lay down your crooks and quit your flocks,
To Bethlehem repair;
And let your wandering steps be squared
By yonder shining star.

Seek not in courts or palaces;
Nor royal curtains draw;
But search the stable,
See your God extended on the straw.

Then learn from hence, ye rural swains,
The meekness of your God,
Who left the boundless realms of joy,
To ransom you with blood.

The master of the inn refused
A more commodious place;
Ungenerous soul of savage mold
And destitute of grace.

- from William Billings, "Shiloh"
