Family name hatnotes[edit]

Hi Starmiffy! I notice you recently reverted my addition of {{family name hatnote}} on the article Zhang Hanying, where you're a primary contributor, and also changed / corrected all instances of "Hanying" in the article to "Zhang".

I guess you were previously unclear on Chinese name order, but I wanted to let you know that the Chinese family name hatnote wasn't a note to you or other contributors on the article that it was using a different style of referring to the subject (forename instead of surname, as is typical in Chinese language sources). It's a standard bit of clarification for readers of the article, recommended in Wikipedia:Manual of Style/China- and Chinese-related articles § Chinese language (you can read about the two recommended practices at Template:Family name explanation/doc § Footnotes vs. hatnotes). Almost all our Chinese biography articles have this template, and I would recommend you put it back in the article in one of the two ways described at the guidance pages just linked.

Thanks and happy editing! Folly Mox (talk) 13:18, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
