Issues

[edit]

There are several issues that I wish to bring to your attention:

First, this account appears to be associated with the State Library of Victoria. Under Wikipedia:Username policy#Inappropriate usernames, accounts with usernames that match the name of a group should be blocked. If you wish to assert that this account is an official public relations account of the State Library of Victoria, please send an email to either myself or another Wikipedia administrator from an email address that proves affiliation with this organization.

Second, this account may be construed as an attempt at impersonation. Per site policy and the previous attempt to hide your affiliation, I am temporarily blocking editing privileges for this account. Please be sure to ask the administrator that you contact with proof of your affiliation to also unblock.

Third, while accounts that limit their activity to adding external links are not usually blocked on sight, they are closely scrutinized. Please read the policy Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. I also recommend Wikipedia:External links and the unofficial essay User:Jmabel/PR.

Fourth, once your affiliation has been confirmed and you have been unblocked, I suggest that you explicitly state your affiliation and role on your userpage, as well as confirming your understanding of relevant site policies. This will hopefully avoid any future difficulties. Thank you, BanyanTree 01:00, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

I will email you directly to respond to your concerns. Statelibraryvictoria 01:36, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have received an email from an slv.vic.gov.au address. The name of the individual is associated, through a Google search, with the State Library of Victoria. I have unblocked your account. Happy editing and thank you for your understanding, BanyanTree 02:01, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Youve been let off easily

[edit]

I would still by the WP:USERNAME policies as I understand them ask you to change your name regardless - as it is impossible for your to not implicate the institution that you work at with issues of WP:COI - also to simply add external links to your website is even more problematic as it encounters WP:SPAM issues - regardless of the above - dont be suprised if someone comes along and asks you to change your name SatuSuro 07:09, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response

I'm not sure what you mean by "let off easily", I believe that my username remains compliant with the WP:UN policy. If you think that I have breached the WP:EL policy then it would be useful if you point out the details of the breach and refer to a specific section of the policy, otherwise your advice is not particularly helpful.
