Reversion

Hey I think the thing is we are both pedantic about the real name in the intros. I'm anally retentive so I'm matching as much of the Marvel articles as I can since the majority go [codename] ([real name]) and you i think prefer the [codename] (real name: [real name]). It's a preference thing (I prefer the codename (realname) and you prefer the other way) so what should we do about it since when I change the articles eventually you will change them back and so on and so on until possibly I break the wikipedia in half :-p RIANZ 22:30, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh I hope I made sense. Usually I don't and ramble incoherently. RIANZ 22:31, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
I do agree with you to a point but I don't think you and I will agree on this :-p. The reason I do it the way I do is simply because it's more "eye appealing", a majority of the articles (including fictional characters outside the Marvel U) are like the way I change it to. I do make allowances though, like Luke Cage. I'm just more anally retentive that's all. Though I think we're both in the right and don't think the other contribs would take part in a discussion about which one should be used or whether or not I should bitch to make you stop since you're not in the wrong. It's just we will end up both tailing each other over the next few months as I go along and change History and Biography to Fictional character biography and putting in the citations then loop back around and check on the ones that may get changed back and then reverse your intro change etc. But yes your reasoning isn't wrong. It's sound. So is mine :-p. So what to do? RIANZ 01:55, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
  • sigh* Looks like it will be up to us to decide which way to go since we are indeed both right. Though had no idea what the first response meant but hey :-p RIANZ 18:28, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
"I deem it so and it shall be done" :-p Hehe. That's ok mate... though makes me seem like I'm a former Catholic Schoolteacher or Spoilt Heiress. But at least this is much more amicable than what I've seen on this site with other disputes. I was wondering though did you used to update just the Marvel character articles or all comic character articles because I only do the Marvel/Ultraverse/Amalgam/Wildstorm characters. Also, does this mean I "don't touch" the articles you've already done? I'm all confuddled since I really can't be bothered thinking right now. :-p

RIANZ 22:20, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Ahh gotcha. I didn't see the boldness of the brackets. I seriously think that I need my contacts check. But yeah that is doable. DC Comics is all yours though. Edit as you wish ;D RIANZ 23:14, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Request for Comment

There's been a Request for Comment initiated at Talk:John Buscema#Request for Comment: NPOV and images, concerning a dispute over alleged violations and which includes links to two versions of an article, for comparison.

You're a regular and diligent contributor to WikiProject Comics, and so might be a knowledgeable and disinterested party who could add an informed opinion. --Tenebrae 18:01, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Actually, when editing that article I don't recall removing any information from it - just moving it around. The paragraph that was under "fictional character biography" didn't really fit there as well as it did under "publication history", so that's where I moved it to. Still, I like the way Tenebrae handled it better than both the previous version and my revision, so I have no complaints.  :) 24.136.11.242 06:18, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

AfD

List of Marvel Comics endearments has been nominated — unfortunately, I believe — for deletion. If you wouldn't mind taking a look at the article and adding a comment, pro or con, at its "Articles for Deletion" discussion, then the article can at least be assured of a fair and knowledgeable hearing by editors familiar with the context. Fair use rationale for Image:Arrowsmith1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Arrowsmith1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:47, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:AvataarsCOTS1.jpg

I have tagged Image:AvataarsCOTS1.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:SquadronS12ILSnum1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:SquadronS12ILSnum1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 14:31, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Your "minor copyedit" to Dominic Fortune + his real name

Before we go any farther here, let me make absolutely clear that this is no complaint, and I have no intention of undoing your revision to what was actually my contribution to the article Dominic Fortune . When I saw that you changed "no involvement of Chaykin" to "no involvement by Chaykin," I understood where you are coming from, but feel that I must point out that in fact either seems appropriate to me. That's all about this, really, and I probably would have let it go if I hadn't noticed that you are responsible for one other edit here that I have been wondering about for some time.

The "History" linkings indicate that you changed the statement of his real name from "David Fortunov" to "Duvid...." In one of the two mid-70s b/w magazine stories---unfortunately, I no longer have my copies and can't tell you which one for sure, but I think it was the one in the Marvel Super Action one-shot---did indeed (absolutely no question about this) give Dominic's real first name as "David," not "Duvid" (there was, I concede, no mention of a middle name at all). Where did you get the other, and could it possibly be a typographical/letterer's error? Ted Watson 19:11, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Found your very prompt (Thank You!) response, and the fact that that info source from Marvel itself contains "David" in brackets does indeed settle the question. Since I posted the above, I've thought back and think that in the first senior-citizen appearance (Marvel Team-Up), where he was in a retirement home under his legal name, "Duvid" was said and at the time I thought it a slip-up, but this makes it official anyway. Again, thanks. Ted Watson 19:51, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Just to say that I received your message, and was surprised as I didn't feel further comment on this situation was necessary. Very lovely attitude you have. Thanks again. Ted Watson 18:32, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm not contesting the deletion. The article Fortress (1993 film) is now using the movie poster instead of the DVD cover image that I uploaded. Stephen Day 22:25, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:SpitfireTroubleshooters1.jpg

Electro/Elektro

I reverted your edit on The Twelve (comic). The sources are clear that it is this Electro: Electro (comics)#Electro (Timely_Comics) not Elektro (comics). They appear to have changed the name to avoid confusion with the currently more famous Spiderman villain. A bit confusing but if you check the sources they are clear which character this is based on. (Emperor 00:25, 10 August 2007 (UTC))

No worries. It is pretty confusing (and I doubt this is the last time it will happen either ;) ) - I assume the name change is also partly a tip of the hat to Elektro and Elektro (comics) bt I assume they confusion would be less than leaving him as Electro (who knows?). (Emperor 00:32, 10 August 2007 (UTC))

Mini-series

I've seen you swap in the term limited series on a number of entries. I don't think there is anything wrong with using the term "mini-series" - as the limited series entry says, a mini-series is just a short limited series. I find it handy to help show a short limited series as in "4-issue mini-series". As for "proper industry term" I find mini-series in use more often than limited series (an example from DC [1]) and while I was thinking that the use of the term "maxi-series" was rare I stumbled across it only this evening [2]. So personally I'd rather use the more specific term (even if I link it back to limited series). (Emperor 04:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC))

Well I'm not going to tell you to stop but I would contest that this is the industry term for it. Digging around the DC site I found mini-series and maxi-series but couldn't actually find a limited series (although I'm sure they use it). Both terms are in heavy use in the industry and as mini/maxi-series are more specific terms then I don't see any harm in using them where they are helpful. So if you want to use limited series then go for it )I know I do when it is the most helpful option) but there is nothing wrong with using mini-series or maxi-series and so if someone has written it that way (and it isn't inaccurate) then I don't think it worth changing. If consistent spelling is a concern we can get a consensus from the Comics Project.
There are also broader problems in this area that probably need more immediate attention - like limited series flagged as graphic novels [3] and that isn't the only one: Faust (graphic novel) and The Conqueror Worm (graphic novel) - the graphic novel category needs cleaning up as there are a lot of limited series listed as graphic novels which is a much more misleading classification. (Emperor 23:20, 27 August 2007 (UTC))
LOL - I didn't think you were on some anti-mini-series crusade ;) I just wanted to flag that mini-series seems to be a perfectly acceptable industry term and (to the best of my knowledge) it is perfectly fine to use on Wikipedia and often the most accurate term in certain circumstances. It is always best to address the issues when they arise. If you think getting a consistent spelling would help we can do that - having it written down somewhere could certainly head off a dispute or two (as I'd bet someone somewhere will argue it should always be written with/without the hyphen and someone else will insist the opposite ;) ). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emperor (talkcontribs) 01:03, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:BKOTO1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:BKOTO1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:37, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Marvel Zombies covers deletion announcement

Thank you for being conscientious enough to announce a deletion nomination. However, a project's talk page is not the place to make that announcement. Always check to see if a WikiProject has a noticeboard. Doczilla 08:41, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

P.S. Actually, I see now that you did post that on the noticeboard. That's great, and that's usually sufficient notice of a complete AfD aside from perhaps notifying the article's creator. The WikiProject Comics talk page just isn't where we announce things like that unlike some big controversy has already arisen. Doczilla 08:47, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, it's not a rule of any kind. It's just standard operating procedure for most WikiProjects. You didn't know. Don't worry about it. I commend your conscientiousness in trying to make sure that the people who'd care more took an interest instead of leaving the AfD for random contributors to vote on. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Comics/Getting_Involved#WP:CMC_resources for information about our project's noticeboard. Doczilla 08:53, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.

Let me get this straight: You enlist in the military, find out you don't like it, and they just go, "Hey, that's cool, you can leave, see ya, bro' " ...? God, I love Canada!
What's been going on, you ask? Oh, man, what hasn't. Go to Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Asgardian-Tenebrae/Evidence for a taste of the latest. I think anybody can contribute (at least judging from the Komusou stuff, which at least taught me WP:NAM!), so feel free.

Earth-Two

If you want, link it as American comic book, like is common with musical group articles. The thing is this article is referring to the medium that the concept of Earth-Two exists in, rather than "American comic books" in particular, in the most basic sense. WesleyDodds (talk) 05:33, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I don't think it's that much of a fundamental difference. As far as opening sentences for articles go, you want to keep it as basic as possible for the uninformed reader. I'm more concerned that the uninformed reader knows what comic book is first than American comic book, which seems like splitting hairs unnecessarily to me. WesleyDodds (talk) 05:53, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
You could always do American comic book, but I don't think it's necessary for this article. It'd be more necessary for possibly DC Comics. WesleyDodds (talk) 06:57, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
