Disputed fair use rationale for Image:DominicFortune.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DominicFortune.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:56, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

DC / Helix - The Black Lamb

Thanks for your note Stephen. As it happens, The Black Lamb was not near the top of my list to create a new article, although it was on the list. The next one I was going to put up was for Dead Corps probably followed by Star Crossed and/or Time Breakers. I did want to see that someone covered off ever Helix title, so you writing an article on The Black Lamb will surely help in this regard. As at the time of writing, I have already reviewed several of my favourites (I do not incude Cyberella in this category as I hated the title, but thought I should get it out of the way before I re-read some of the ones I actually did enjoy). I'll keep an eye out for your article when its finished. Were there any other Helix titles that you were keen to cover off which you would prefer me to hold fire on? Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Geatar, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Fair use rationale for Image:BlackLamb1.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BlackLamb1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Soxred93 | talk count bot 23:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

The Black Lamb

The article looks good Stephen. I only had some minor copyedits. I wondered whether you may want to add it to the Science Fiction Comics category like the other Helix titles (although arguably The Black Lamb revolves less around science than some of the other titles). Also, I made some small changes to the fair use rationale for the image to reflect its DC origin, rather than Marvel. If Tim Trueman holds the copyright jointly with DC then perhaps you can update the FUR box accordingly. Kind regards--Calabraxthis (talk) 06:45, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Your edit to Vulcan (Marvel Comics)

I felt that saying "shared universe" might confuse non-comic readers. Rau J16 16:35, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but without the mention of "shared universe", they can still easily figure out what it means with out having to read another article. Rau J16 05:00, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Because not all people will check the article, it is over-complicating the message, which was conveyed perfectly the way it was. Rau J16 05:31, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
It over-complicates because it is adding something not every reader knows, and if they wish to understand it fully must read another article. Whereas with the way it was, odd were that they understood what was being said just fine with out having to read anything extra. Rau J16 00:05, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Truce

Although that is not how it is normally done, it does sound as though it would work; for now. I would still like to reach consensus, and the proposed opening on the Vulcan talk page seems like a good place to start. But until consensus is reached, this seems a suitable conclusion. Rau J16 00:54, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

ClanDestine image

Hi. The image you favor is not clearer than the newer one at all. Yours is slightly larger, but the crispness of the image itself is the same in both. The reason I replaced it, however, it because the coloring doesn't look really good, especially with that dark greenish area around Pandora, that black smudge in the upper right corner, and the thin, broken black lines down the left and right sides. I have no need for the image to be one that I scan, so rather than edit war, let me ask you: Would you be willing to scan and upload a better-looking version with better color? Let me know. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 03:39, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I can't believe you would use the argument about it being "truer" to the original color with regard to the background, but not mention that awful black stuff around the edges (as if that's somehow "truer" to the original). I'm also curious as to what method you used to compare the sharpness, since I merely compared them side by side, and saw that in crispness, they're identical. Again, yours is larger, but that's because I deliberately used a smaller image because the Fair Use Rationale requires that such images be no larger than (IIRC) 300px. Yours is labeled 300px in the Fair Use Rational Template ts image page, but that label is incorrect, because right below the image it says that it's 400 x 600-something. We're lucky some other editor or bot hasn't come and tagged it as inappropriate because of that. That's why I used a 300px image, so I wonder if that's what you're basing this on. Anyway, I photoshopped your version to remove the blackness at the edges, and the green smudginess from the lower half of the image, to make it more "gold". I also credited you on th e page to which I uploaded this newest version. I hope that's a good compromise. Thing is, since it's a modification of your image, it's still more than 300px, so let's hope we don't get tagged for it. If we do, we'll have to put an Image Reduction Request tag on it. Nightscream (talk) 18:01, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't know why you find it so difficult to understand what my post says, as I didn't say you argued against the black smuges, nor did I say anything about it being "true to life". Those are your words, not mine. I argued that your citing that principle with regard to one aspect of the cover's color ignored the fact was inconsistent with another. You say that "I honestly feel that its of primary importance to have cover images that reflect how the cover actually was". My response was essentially, "Okay. Does that black stuff at the edges represent how it 'truly was'?" In any event, I'm glad the current version meets your approval. Peace. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nightscream (talkcontribs) 18:22, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:ClanDestineCover1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:ClanDestineCover1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Re: Wikiproject:Comics tag

I believe that having all but the most general topics tagged with both project banners is overkill. It is entirely stupid and redundant to have both project banners on articles about a manga and manga series. --Farix (Talk) 22:59, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

I completely disagree as the article suffers from conflicting project styles of how an article should arranged and written. Also, WikiProject Comics did decided some time ago to not put their project banners on articles about manga do to such tagging being redundant. --Farix (Talk) 23:16, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Digger

Stephen D, I'm always flattered to be asked!

You've made a lot of improvement and fleshed it out (so to speak!), and my kudos to you. I'm gonna go in and do, like, two fixes:

First, while the Marvel and DC wikia were approved for inclusion as External links, they still can't go under "Reference" or "Footnote." (Most wikia, including Wikipedia itself, are disallowed as reference sources; only a handful are allowed as External links, which are "for further reading" links.)

Also, events depicted in a comic book don't use an outside citation — the comic-book itself is the citation. It's similar to the plot of a movie — the movie itself provides the plot, verifiable on, generally, a readily available video. Behind-the-scenes creative actions and critical commentary, of course, do need footnotes.

Minor things. You've got the spirit, nature and "voice" of a researcher — and that's something you either got or you don't. Always glad to see your name on an edit, dude! --Tenebrae (talk) 04:13, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Stephen,

Great Digger page - just wanted to point out that all the new Digger artwork from 'Dead of Night' and the pic that you have up there was painted by Nick Percival - cheers! 81.153.200.46 (talk) 20:02, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:DCM AllAccess.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DCM AllAccess.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

List of Dark Horse publications.

Yeah, that was listed twice. I merged two lists to create the page so some information was duplicated. I deleted all the ones I could catch, but thanks for picking up one I didn't. I really need to have a couple of fresh sets of eyes go over it and find those little things so it's ready for when we convert it into a table. Thanks again for your help. Orphaned non-free media (Image:ANExilesMalibu1.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:ANExilesMalibu1.gif.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Both of the above images were removed from the articles I uploaded them for in favour of better images. I'm not contesting their deletion as a result. Stephen Day (talk)
