Drummerless
[edit]The following quote was made by The Beatles' first manager, Allan Williams in the documentary The Compleat Beatles: "Now The Beatles were going through one of their drummerless periods. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

[edit]Your recent edit to Chef prompted a WTF (Wot's This For?) and a bit of rooting around in the help pages. Cheers! I am now several minutes older, and have a further iota of wisdom to show for it, which is not always the case here. - Really? Good to know! Although I was actually just (effectively) reverting some vandalism by anon IP 190.83.23.206 who removed a lot of content, not all of which got added back. Because of the removal of the category, Chef appeared under the special page Special:UncategorizedPages which I occasionally trawl through, as it's amazing how much vandalism you can catch through doing that. - Oops, I apologise profusely, I must have edited the wrong version. I was trying to work out why it didn't have a category by looking back into the article's history. Eventually I figured out that it was missing a </gallery> tag at the end, and must have hit "Edit this page" when viewing an older version. Really, a mistake, many apologies. WP:NCC applies to all comics and is a class not a description. Hence you have both 2000 AD (comics) and Simon Davis (comics)/John Bolton (comics). (Emperor (talk) 14:34, 17 October 2008 (UTC))
- The feel free to raise this at the Comics Project talk page, this has been much discussed and "(comic)" has been deemed an unacceptable disambiguation and it would require a consensus to change it. The fact there other article still use "(comic)" means they should be changed and isn't an argument for keeping "(comic)."
- As I say John Bolton and Simon Davis are clearly not made from paper but their works are in the field of comics, which is why the disambiguation isn't a description it is a class. (Emperor (talk) 15:22, 17 October 2008 (UTC))

I must admit after viewing an article for a 30 year old comic with more non-working links than working and no references provided, the urgency to correct any possible links to that article may have slipped my mind, but in any case the the hatnote I provided on the song page would lead readers to the correct page with one more click of the mouse. Essex no longer in England?
[edit]You have edited a number of articles concerning places in Essex, removing the category of village or town in England. Have you taken upon yourself to remove Essex from England? In which case, what Country do you think Essex should be categorised with? (94.192.68.43 (talk) 15:13, 19 December 2008 (UTC))
- Articles should not normally be in a category if they are already in a subcategory of that category. In this case, "Villages in Essex" is a subcategory of "Villages in England" and therefore including an article in both is not necessary. [edit]Sorry about the problems with categorising. I thought that, if the category was exactly the same, it wasn't necessary to revert to exactly the same page if the content was the same. And I have to confess I'm not sure what all those tags are: other languages? I suppose I subconsciously thought that they weren't very important... As for the reference tags, often people remove those and the categories under them, and I suppose I was hoping that if the reference tag wasn't there, they'd leave the article alone... I didn't so much as "miss" them as decide that it wasn't that necessary to revert it exactly. I guess I got it wrong, though, right? Sorry again, I haven't had much experience with this.

[edit]Each editor has his or her own strengths and weaknesses, and areas that seem more enjoyable or rewarding. I have often reverted obvious vandalism or blatant slander. On the other hand, I have seen other editors correct such abuse while leaving atrocious spelling and grammar in the article. I don't see the need to point that out to them; I simply make the corrections. I have improved over 45,000 articles. If I stopped to investigate the history of every article that was not full of glowing praise for its subject, that number would be closer to 450. I am sure there are hundreds of editors who are better qualified to make the right call about Jeremy Vine, whose name was completely unknown to me. Happy editing! EastEnders storyline
[edit]Hey Stephen, there's a discussion going on at here about whether or not the project should delete the Storylines of EastEnders pages. I dont want to AFD them if anyone objects, so I thought i'd ask if you do, as I remember that you were involved in the AFDs a few years back. I was in favour of keeping them at the time, but am now thinking they are more trouble to maintain than they are worth and that the storylines are all covered in character articles anyway.
