A message

You just made a remark on my talk page i didn't like. My message to you is that you can crawl back under the rock you came out from.--Ezzex (talk) 21:34, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

I'm sorry that the obnoxious racist remarks you made on a page were completely out of line and were disliked by other users. You should be ashamed for making such a careless statement on a public encyclopedia.Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 21:43, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Segway PT, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Schengen. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hopkinton Fair

Could you write an article about the Hopkinton Fair? RobertBolan (talk) 22:07, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

RobertBolan, I will start working on it Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 22:19, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Steve, the article looks amazing! I'm going to try and do one for the Deerfield Fair this weekend. Is it okay if use your article's formatting as a guide? RobertBolan (talk) 17:23, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Robert, Go for it! Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 17:25, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Clegg Hoyt

The Clegg Hoyt article was deleted in 2013. This is a revised article with his Star Trek connection. He was in some seventy productions and should qualify for actor status. Billy Hathorn (talk) 18:42, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Vanossgaming

This article was deleted and recreated after it was seen as not giving information about the person himself while it was marked to do so. I left a note on it saying so and as well saying that the infobox claiming it is about a person can be edited or, if needed, it can be removed. Please revise the deletion. JordiTK (talk) 15:35, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

The deletion notice will stay as the article does not qualify as being significant for an encyclopedia. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 15:37, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

I understand that an encyclopedia can't contain anything or anyone that is said to be important, but the article notes that the person is listed in the top 20 of popular channels on YouTube, and I see channels that are not even listed in the top 1000 and are still on this Wikipedia, does the person have to win an award first, or write songs, or play in movies? I think that a person that is known, liked and followed among at least 8 million people could be listed on a Wikipedia. I would like to hear how someone like him, Evan Vanoss, can be on a Wikipedia, since this is my first article and I could be prevented from making more of these articles of people that I think could have an article. JordiTK (talk) 15:50, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

We are NOT discussing other articles here. We are only discussing Vanossgaming and there isn't a single published reference to support the importance or need for this article. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 15:55, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

One last question; On the Wikipedia:Notability (people) page under the semi-section Entertainers is stated 'Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following' would make the article allowed on this website. And yes, it is true that the person doesn't play part in anything that has to do with music, movies, donating to charity or anything else listed on the Notability page, but as said, he has a large fan base, so isn't it true that he can have an article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JordiTK (talkcontribs) 16:13, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

I still have not seen any reference of published material reflecting such information. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 16:19, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Clearly indicating on the article that he has such a fan base and linking, for example, to his YouTube channel, or a video made by him stating it, or a quote on a website stating this would be enough? No? JordiTK (talk) 16:33, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

None of what you mentioned are published sources. If a third party wrote an article in a publication, that may constitute as a published reference. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk)

True. I have searched for an article written by a third party about Evan Vanoss on the internet but I couldn't seem to find one. And I am not sure if licensed websites owned by third parties, showing the amount of subscribers he, and other youtubers, have, like the site named Vidstatsx, also count as a reference? JordiTK (talk) 17:15, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

I understand where you are coming from here. Articles such as Cory Williams is appropriate due to the published sources online. You would be better off including basic information in List of YouTube personalities and expand into its own article if published articles on the web become available. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 17:23, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. I suggest I should look for articles like 'Evan's fan base is exploding' or 'Vanoss reached 15 million subscribers' when Evan becomes more popular, but probably someone else already made an article for him by then... JordiTK (talk) 17:37, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Yale–NUS College

Hi Steve Lux, Jr., Regarding your note on my page, the new Yale–NUS College page is a redirect that points to Yale-NUS College. I set the redirect because I found a few articles that used the en-dash (–) over the hyphen (-) and were being redlinked as a result. I've checked the official spelling and grammar conventions to confirm that this is the correct direction for the redirect. Is there a policy against this kind of typographic redirection? If not, I would prefer to keep the redirect. Nickknack00 (talk) 16:56, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Please revert your edit. WP:A7 does not apply to educational institutions. Also, the title is already under discussion for deletion at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2014 August 5#Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering. —teb728 t c 21:09, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: .XYZ

Hello Steve Lux, Jr.. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of .XYZ, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I don't think that the content is sufficiently spammy and the page was created before the user was blocked, so unless I am mistaken G5 cannot apply here.suggest more clean up or AFD. Thank you. SmartSE (talk) 21:21, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Alda Games

This page is not meant for advertising. It is small introduction of a small indie developer. What is wrong with that page? Lenght? Lack of information? Just tell me what is wrong and I can fix it, don´t just go around tagging pages for deletion. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Corwin888 (talkcontribs) 18:08, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Question about page faculty of economy prilep

Hi Steve Lux, Jr. ,

I won't you ask about the page that I create Faculty of economics-Prilep

I won't to create that page because is important for my faculty. Because we already have a page on Macedonian and we want also to have all that information on English. Because we have a lot of student form other countries and we need all that information to be on English. I hope I will have understanding form your side and let me to create the page because is very important for us as a faculty.

Best regards,

Msc. Milena Boskoska

Milenaboskoska, no. There is simply no reason to have an article page for such a thing. A faculty or group such as this one shows no purpose or significance of having an article page on Wikipedia. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 20:20, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

WhitesCantBeRaped

Hi! Just FYI, WhitesCantBeRaped isn't an article, it's a targeted redirect to a subsection of Hashtag activism. Quoting WP:PROD: "PROD is only applicable to mainspace articles, lists, and disambiguation pages; it cannot be used with redirects, userspace pages, templates, categories, or pages in any other namespace" (emphasis mine.) As such, I have removed your {{proposed deletion}} template from the redirect. NotBetaFive (talk) 21:15, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Using PROD

Hi Steve. I have objected to your proposed deletion of Faculty of Economics-Prilep. Contrary to what you stated on the article, anyone, including the article's author, is allowed to remove a PROD tag and as Wikipedia policy explains, once the proposed deletion is objected to, no one may renominate it for deletion through PROD. This is different from speedy deletions (only the article's author may not remove CSD tags) and AfD (nobody may remove tag while discussion is in progress). If you still believe the article should be deleted, feel free to nominate it at Articles for Deletion and remember to notify the original author. While I understand that AfDs take more time than PROD, it is important that we adhere to policy and use it only for uncontroversial deletions. Thanks, Altamel (talk) 18:11, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Contoocook Depot and Pullman Coach.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Contoocook Depot and Pullman Coach.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Green Giant (talk) 01:46, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Re: "disruptive editing"

Your comment regarding my edit of List of members of the Parliament of Finland is flatly untrue. I forked to a new page with the same content as that section. I will fork it again because it is appropriate for its length. If you have a problem with it, take it up with admin. Good day to you. --RayneVanDunem (talk) 16:42, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

The IP is a long-banned / sock user who likes to add one often irrelevant change after another. Most recently Special:Contributions/108.73.113.2. See the IP's edit history; the linked word is usually enclosed in parens. See User:Arthur Rubin/IP list. Per wp:deny, the IP's edits are rolled back. No problem with someone else adding the change (or undoing my revert). Gotten a lot of undos this batch. Need to write a template! Relisting RfDs

Hi Steve. Thanks for relisting an RfD, but when you do, make sure you actually move the discussion to the new day's page. The template doesn't do that automatically, unfortunately. (I think it might at AfD? Haven't been over there in a bit.) See {{Rfd relisted}} for full instructions. I kept that page open in another tab when I first started relisting RfDs and found I memorized the process fairly quickly. --BDD (talk) 13:35, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Information icon Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Steve Lux Jr.. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Steve Lux, Jr.. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Steve Lux Jr., you may have a conflict of interest. People with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, see the conflict of interest guideline and frequently asked questions for organizations. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, its competitors, or projects and products you or they are involved with;
  • instead, propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

Last but not least: All contributors must not contribute content that violates conflict of interest laws (just as all contributors must respect copyright). The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive is valid throughout the European Union. In a German court decision in 2012 (that also relied on the directive) regarding Wikipedia: "The court held that when a company edits a Wikipedia article, the resulting text falsely creates the impression that the edit has no business-related purpose. By implication, the judges found that the average reader of Wikipedia articles expects to find objective and neutral information." That is a very very important condition, comparable to the FTC Guide" that consumers are likely to believe reflects the opinions, beliefs, findings, or experience of a party other than the sponsoring advertiser”. This expectation by consumers of neutral information on Wikipedia, requires that companies not write "their" WP articles for PR/marketing purposes.

Editors who are compensated for their contributions should make the disclosure by placing the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template at the top of the talk page of affected articles and filling in the parameters. They should also supply this information as part of a list on their user page of all their paid contributions.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing, and autobiographies. Thank you. Zpeopleheart (talk) 17:24, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Recent citation entries for Library page

Steve, I hope I'm doing this correctly. You left me a message that my recent edit seemed to be a test and it was removed. Actually, no. I did an edit which was accepted, moving two libraries from the Reference Library to Research Library and adding a third Research Library that had been omitted. Then there was a message saying "Citation needed". So I did a couple of edits that were incorrect and that might have been what you saw. But the last thing I did was put <ref ref> with the citation after each of the libraries I moved and the one I added. They were all URL's. I'm not sure why this was incorrect or looked like a test. I wasn't sure how to enter the citations and the only info I could get from the help pages said to do this, put the citation between two ref markups. Please let me know how I should have done this differently. I'm new! Lakelandcrib 11/23/15 ~~~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lakelandcrib (talkcontribs) 00:36, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Hopkinton categories

Hi Steve - Great job setting up the Hopkinton category! It's always impressive to see how many articles exist that cover a certain topic. I have a request: would you consider taking the articles on people from Hopkinton and assigning them to a new subcategory, People from Hopkinton, New Hampshire? You could look at some of the other NH town categories (e.g. Hanover) to see how it's set up. Thanks, and happy editing! --Ken Gallager (talk) 20:39, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ken Gallager (talk), like so? Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 20:51, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, thank you for doing that. I added some categories so the People category can be found from other locations. --Ken Gallager (talk) 20:55, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

West Hopkinton

I took a look at your article under construction - looks like it's off to a good start. When I think of West Hopkinton, the mills in the village come to mind, so if you're able to find any historic details about specific companies used to operate there (do any still?), that would be a crucial part of the article. You could also mention the Hopkinton-Everett Reservoir dam. (And by trying to make that link I just realized there's another article that doesn't exist yet!) --Ken Gallager (talk) 20:48, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Ken Gallager (talk thank you for looking! I agree, haven't had a ton of time today. I have some photos of the village around 1870-ish. I ended up focusing most of my research today on trying to find where the "boundary" may have been considered. A lot could be a part of this article, or just a little. I will be adding a lot as I go so if you have any other suggestions, feel free! Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 20:52, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Kansas City, Kansas hatnote

The hatnotes on Kansas City-related pages were developed after discussion on how to best address the confusion between Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. It is a necessary (and minimum) explanation to clarify "central city" due to the historic confusion between the two and the idiosyncrasies of the name. I'm fine with the KCK disambig being removed as unnecessary, though, I can't find anywhere on WP:HAT that says hatnotes must direct to pages with "extremely similar names." I have attempted a compromise. Grey Wanderer (talk) 16:45, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

I originally reverted your New Hampshire buddy Ken Gallager's edit because he justified his edit summery was "fix inaccurate and red-link-ridden hatnote," neither of which was true. Grey Wanderer (talk) 16:54, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Clarification on NH page edits

Hi Steve, I noticed that you reverted the changes I made to the New Hampshire wiki. These changes related specifically to particular language used to describe European colonization of New Hampshire's First Nations. I was wondering if you could please provide information on why my updates did not meet the criteria to be accepted. I provided ample citations directly to the changes that I made. Looking forward to your response and hope to get my changes reinstated asap. Aven — Preceding unsigned comment added by Avenlarosa (talkcontribs) 14:58, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Concord Stagecoach

Hi Steve. Why do you think the surplus comma belongs there? Eddaido (talk) 12:57, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Eddaido - this comma, which is commonly known as the Oxford comma, is perfectly acceptable in this sentence. There is no reason not to include it. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 14:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Of course WP is noted for its academic and formal style! ha ha ha. It would be good if in the kind of article we get involved in the style of language even reached an everyday journalistic style. I will let this case slip because it relates to a (highly non-academically written) North American subject but I do find this Harvard comma strongly American in flavour like the American uses of Z (zee?) also recommended nearly a century ago by the same "Oxford" people. Here as you make plain it is pure mock-academic Americana. Eddaido (talk) 10:50, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

IH to International

I am requesting a move of International Harvester Loadstar. I am telling you because you have opposed this move in the past. No reply needed. Thank you. Sammy D III (talk) 17:53, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Interested in your thoughts about bridge #55 (I have evidence of an earlier 55)

Hi Steve- You seem to be pretty active in the NH Covered Bridges page, so I'd like your opinion please. I found, and posted to that page, a map of New Hampshire covered bridges that my grandfather shot in 1967. One bridge that stuck out to me was #55. Notice it's on that map, in the Merrimack NH region.

Yet, there is content on the page about "Chester Covered Bridge is the newest official bridge, #55". I have two slides of a bridge, shot(actually processed) in 1966, labelled "55 Turkey Hill Bridge", Merrimack NH. I'm pretty sure my grandfather was using that map to shoot as many bridges as he could. He was very careful with slide labelling. I do see evidence that there was a Turkey Hill Bridge that was burned down in 1968. See https://www.nashuatelegraph.com/news/local-news/2013/09/09/monument-now-marks-site-of-covered-bridge/.

What would you think would be the correct way to introduce the original #55 to the page? If this is not the right channel for this, and you'd like to talk about this a different way. Please let me know. Thank you for your time- Parnhamphoto (talk) 22:02, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Parnhamphoto, I believe you are referring to "Turkey Hill Bridge" in Merrimack. This bridge no longer exists. You can find more details here- http://lostbridges.org/details.aspx?id=NH/29-06-05x&loc=n. You could certainly add it to the short list on the article under lost bridges. You may find enough information about it over time to establish a new article page for the bridge. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 14:56, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you Steve, that helps me out a lot. Parnhamphoto (talk) 15:20, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
