I hope you had a great 2013, and hopefully 2014 will be an even better year for you! And the title looks really colorful... StevenD99 Contribs Sign 05:58, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

[edit]

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

Hi Steve

[edit]

Hi Steve, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately your current signature is breaking a few things on Wikipedia's policy on signatures (WP:SIG) and it will require a bit of cleanup. Your signature is currently 422 characters when the maximum allowed is only 255 characters, your sig also contains both <big> and <font> tags when both are to be avoided. You might want to do a bit of a re-design. Besides that keep up the good work. Cheers, v/r —  dainomite   04:49, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, here's my new signature, without any policy violations (hopefully). I've removed all the <big> and <font> tags and reduced it to below 255 characters, since it now fits in the signature box! Do you like it? :) StevenD99 02:36, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
👍 Like Looks good Steve! Thank ya, —  dainomite   04:09, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Explain how my edits constitute vandalism. They are factually correct and highly important.

139.218.218.86 (talk) 03:21, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@139: Even though rape allegations were made against Stephen Milne, it's not appropriate to add "he's a rapist" in the lead. If you do that, others will think you're vandalizing the article. Instead, maybe add a full sentence about his rape allegations at the end of the lead section? That'll be better, but make sure it's sourced. StevenD99 03:27, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!! I can't believe it's been 5 years since I created my first ever Wikipedia account (Steve2011). That's just insane! StevenD99 00:49, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page display

[edit]

Hi. I'm sorry to have to be the bearer of more bad news, but your talk page is, frankly, not very legible. In layout (long before computers), a famous maxim is 'less is more' . I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm for a moment, because you do some excellent grammar and prose improvements around the place, but perhaps you could take a moment to clean up your talk page so that it fits properly in all browsers, is clearly readable and free of clashing colours so that grouchy, old fashioned retired professors like me with poor eyesight can also take part in the discussions here ;) Best wishes, --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:44, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can't really help with the clashing colors because I like to have a very creative and cool-looking user/talk page, but I did make the display much better, since the talk page format now fits with the navigation bar. Do you like it better? Oh and today is my birthday, so you guys should wish me a happy birthday too. Thanks, StevenD99 20:48, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for rollback

[edit]

Hi StevenD99. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — MusikAnimal talk 02:47, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've also boldly removed the intentional downsizing of your talk page. Frankly it makes communication very difficult, and I agree with Kudpung that the colours could be improved. Especially if you are going to fighting vandalism, it's important that you're able to effectively communicate with users. — MusikAnimal talk 02:47, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Steven, you really need to do something about this. Also your signature is totally illegible. Wikipedia is a serious project and we need to convey to our readers that it is managed by serious people. The best place for experimentation with CSS and mark up is your user page, but the best kind of user talk page that make our editors appear most grown up are completely neutral ones (like mine for example); remember that most of our readers are adults, a great many of whom are my age and judge the competency of our page patrollers and maintenance workers by the quality of their user and talk pages. BTW, Happy Birthday. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:08, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Kudpung, I know that you are old, but I like to be creative with my pages. I usually design them for younger people instead of stereotypical older adults (no offense intended), so you'll just have to deal with it. There are many other users on this wiki (like Pratyya Ghosh, Soham, and countless others) that have pages and signatures just as creative as mine, and they are young editors too. I really don't like to have a plain talk page or a plain signature, it just looks boring. I also 100% agree that Wikipedia is a serious project, but I just like being creative, that's all. MusikAnimal, I did the downsizing of my talk page because Kudpung didn't like the current display, and I tried to make the talk page's boundaries fit the navigation bar (which is a separate template, BTW). I didn't know it would make the talk page look even worse, so thanks for removing it. I personally like it better with the current display. And finally, I'm already able to effectively communicate with users, I'm just mostly an article editor. Let's end this here, I don't want this to turn into a big rant. I just hope you can learn to deal with it, Kudpung, because again, I don't like plain pages. StevenD99 03:48, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Steve, thanks for the notification, this my first edit after ages.

On a serious note my signatures have been vibrant but that is a thing of the past mate. Colourfull signatures may earn you some recognition in the space of guestbooks but at the end of the day they do not help in our job as editors, so I decided to drop them (colours, you see) but YMM. Congratulations on being a rollbacker. You should consider using this. Thanks. – Soham (talk) 15:31, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to see you again, Soham! I gave you a notification because you were one of the guys with the creative user/talk pages and I wanted to use you as an example. I'll still keep my colorful signature because I like being creative with things, I think the plain original signature that you just switched to looks too plain and boring (no offence). I hope to check out STiki and try out the new Huggle versions sometime during the next few days, I've been kinda busy off-wiki lately. StevenD99 22:50, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're still here?? 2.28.49.185 (talk) 22:44, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I am and I still don't plan on retiring soon but I might retire if I'm still too busy off-wiki like I am now, but in November or December. Are you some former user on this wiki that I used to chat to back in the day? You know, the Spongefrog/White Shadows/Notedgrant/Orangesodakid group from late 2009? I was only 10 when I chatted with those users (Yeah, I was that young, but now I'm 15 and more mature). I also checked your IP on Geolocate and it appears you're from Scotland. WAIT, I still remember Spongefrog lived there after I scrolled through his old talk pages! Are you the return of Spongefrog, since you also commented on Vicenarian's talk, another user I remember from a long time ago?? I also saw you (if you are Spongefrog) were blocked indefinitely in late 2011 for screwing around, but I guess you still lurk around as an anonymous user. That's just insane... StevenD99 01:42, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And I'm also semi-retiring, but I don't and won't ever plan to fully retire sometime soon. Instead, I'll try to focus on Wikipedia more by the start of 2015 and I hope to become very active on this wiki again by that time. So this is just a temporary semi-retirement for now. StevenD99 01:56, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's me ... I got wiki-burnout, lost all interest in Wikipedia, and made a troll RfA saying all sorts of awful things ... that's what got me banned. Pretty dumb, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I still edit now and then, but sort of fell out of the loop as far as things behind the scenes go. I've been lurking around a bit recently, thought I'd try and see how things have changed. Really wasn't expecting anyone to be left. Haha, it's amazing how much you remember. Yeah, those were the days, I think I must've been in my mid teens or something. Good to see someone still around, 2.28.49.185 (talk) 23:50, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just wish I hadn't got my old userpage deleted. I don't remember what was on it, but I remember it being a pretty damn good userpage 2.28.49.185 (talk) 23:52, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the very late reply since I barely even log in to Wikipedia anymore, but I can't believe you're also still here!!! If you were in your mid-teens back then, you're probably around 20 years old now. That troll RFA was pretty dumb, I agree, and I would know better than to do that unless I get stressed out with Wikipedia or I just feel like having a bit of fun! But I would still try as hard as I can to not troll or anything because it could get me blocked like what happened to you. I also don't remember what your user page really looked like, but I still kinda remember it was a pretty damn good userpage like you said. I also remember stealing all your good stuff (I was 10 back then and didn't know better) and you were Lord Spongefrog, Czar of all Russias! Those were the days, I wish we can bring back those fun days. BTW, I decided to log in and post today because apparently today's your birthday according to here, so happy birthday my lord! (Sorry if you don't like being called that anymore but I'm just used to thinking of you like that) And for a final thing for me to cheer you up even more, here's the motto you used a long time ago:
Lord Spongefrog, by the Grace of God, Emperor and Autocrat of all the Russias, of Moscow, Kiev, Vladimir, Novgorod, Czar of Kasan and Astrakhan, Czar of Poland, Czar of Siberia, Czar of the Tauric Chersonese, Seignior of Pskov, Prince of Smolensk, Lithuania, Volkynia, Podolia, and Finland, Prince of Esthonia, Livonia, Courland and Semigallia, of Bialystok, Karelia, Sougria, Perm, Viatka, Bulgaria and many other countries; Lord and Sovereign Prince of the territory of Nijni-Novgorod, Tchemigoff, Riazan, Polotsk, Rostov, Jaroslavl, Bielozersk, Oudoria, Obdoria, Kondinia, Vitepsk, and of Mstislaf, Governor of the Hyperborean Regions, Lord of the countries of Iveria, Kartalinia, Grouzinia, Kabardinia, and Armenia, Hereditary Lord and Suzerain of the Scherkess princes, of those of the mountains, and of others; heir of Norway, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein, Stormarn, Dittmarsen and Oldenburg.
