Dude.. adding a new page?.. = Vandalism?

Asking WHY he marked it for speedy deletion gets me a level 2 warning.. do you guys really hate unions or something? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cdnonmars (talkcontribs) 17:57, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

lol. Enigma msg! 18:05, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
That's exactly what I thought to myself. "Steve better not step out of line again, or he's getting reported to AIV... by himself! Enigma msg! 18:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Yeah, but I know the admins would unblock me in a flash. As it's an accident. And I have to request semi-protection of this page, its getting vandalised like crazy. For the record, I have the highest amount of recent reports on the AIV at the moment (15) :D Steve Crossin (talk) 18:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I am on the Huggle whitelist. Sometimes I have double reverted a page, so reverted my revert, and self warned myself. If that makes sense. hang on. Its nearly 6am. So i need coffee. Steve Crossin (talk) 18:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Yeah, I checked to make sure. Even with a double revert, Huggle shouldn't be warning a whitelisted user, much less reporting them to AIV (see below). Enigma msg! 18:50, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

AIV report

Did you mean to report yourself? [1] Hut 8.5 18:45, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

  • No, It was an accident, here was my explanation.
    • Requesting an admin remove this report. I am using Huggle, and I accidentally, through some reverts, have warned myself, but if you look at the diffs, you will see I haven't vandalised, I have been diligently fighting vandalism. I've just been going at a rate so fast, trying to curb the vandals, that I accidentally reported myself, due to warning myself excessively, accidentally. However if you feel I should be blocked, then do so :( Steve Crossin (talk) 18:50, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
      • I have never had any intention of blocking you - I just thought it was rather strange/amusing that you reported yourself. I removed the report a while ago. I don't know anything about Huggle or how it works, so I can't really help you. Hut 8.5 19:59, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • No, no block is due here, but you need to be really really careful. This type of thing is happening way to much, and is confusing new/innocent users. Tiptoety talk 19:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Yeah, the fact I reported myself was confusing? I didn't even know that was possible. I assume you looked at the diffs that the Huggle report issued. Obviously they were non-incriminating, but I have to be more careful, yes. Thanks for telling me. Steve Crossin (talk) 19:11, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Not just the fact you reported yourself, but more of them fact that there has been quite a few mistakes recently and they are all going to add up. I do not think you intentions are bad (as i said, they where mistakes) but you can only make so many mistakes at a time before something has to be done. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 19:18, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Oh, dont worry, you will not be blocked, though may have rollback or Huggle removed, but those are extreme cases and I do not see it happening. Cheers. Tiptoety talk 19:25, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Oh yes, I know. 99% of my reverts are correct. It's just that 1%. I have to aim for perfection. The problem is, I can't stop fighting vandalism. I literally cannot stop. I didn't sleep all night because I was fighting vandals (It's 6:40am). So, I believe I truly am obsessed with fighting vandals. Some say it is pointless. I say otherwise. Steve Crossin (talk) 19:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
It's certainly not pointless but it's more important that you get some sleep! And I thought I was getting addicted to WP ..... Best wishes, Qwfp (talk) 19:55, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I am NOT vandalizing this page! I am CORRECTING bad information. I was once an OWNING PARTNER of WOWQ. I KNOW its history.

Accenture edit

I assume you re-added the vandalism by mistake on this edit. Just thought I'd let you know. Please edit carefully. --Rebroad (talk) 12:00, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism?

No its not vandalism. I cited my source. Its a bandmembers idea of another musician. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.163.249.54 (talk) 13:36, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

  • The diff you are referring to, I reverted for 2 reasons. 1. Because ClueBot (a bot that fights vandalism) reverted your edit, and I would more often agree with a bot, and secondly, because the edit appeared to be vandalism. "He has been noted as saying that "Eric Clapton is a f---ing douchebag!" appeared to be blatant vandalism. After checking the source, the comment above was said. However, I'm not too sure that source is a reliable source. I hope you realise why I reverted the edit, however. We get those sort of edits all the time, by vandals. It's rare those sort of edits are legitimate. Apologies for any mistake I made. Steve Crossin (talk) 13:44, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Note.

Make sure you don't revert back to a different vandalized version when using huggle (such as here). It usually helps to revert back to yourself. ;) · AndonicO Hail! 14:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Just on that, about 5 minutes ago, Huggle completely went beserk. Wouldn't do anything. I couldn't warn, or revert, they were all "failing" to execute o_0. Anyway, sorry about that. By the way, are you on IRC? If so, what channel? Steve Crossin (talk) 14:20, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
    • Yeah, that's annoying. Especially when you have a long password, like me, and restarting it takes ages... No, I'm not on IRC, I rarely am, in fact. · AndonicO Hail! 14:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for tagging the user page 163.153.177.4 regarding recent edits. The district has reported that "The student has been identified and his computer account has been suspended for web page vandalism." --NERIC-Security (talk) 17:09, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Well I checked you out, and you should be happy to know, I really don't take account age into consideration. I'd be willing to take you on as a coachee, but there are 2 criteria. 1. You go up for RfA when I tell you your ready. 2. You disclose to me on or off wiki any other accounts you've had (I don't think you have, but I just feel the need for that rule.) If you agree, your first lesson is to update the Admin coaching status page to reflect this. Your second is to create a usersubpage User:Steve Crossin/AC and watchlist it. I'll give you lessons there an what not. Assuming everything works well, I'd say a late May, early June RfA would not be out of the question. MBisanz talk 06:44, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, thats good, no problems with commons, doppleganger, or other wiki accounts. The page is Admin Coaches and Status. During your training, I'll purposefully not be linking to most things, as I want you to be able to find them and because WP doesn't have a good index, so its helpful to memorize certain page shortcuts. MBisanz talk 06:57, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Fixed my mistake. MBisanz talk 08:50, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

It's dangerous out there

Test Wiki

24 character article

  • Ok, so I did a quick format of the article, and started searching online for interviews with the actress. I have come up dry thus far, and was wondering if you have found anything. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 03:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Ahh, the article on Miss Hayes :P Hehe, I have a fair bit of info on her, and I can also now abuse the use of {{cite episode}}. A citation is a citation. Also, I know it hardly ever happens with TV shows, but what rating do you think the Nadia Yassir article would receive? That is, after the injunction is lifted. Steve Crossin (talk) 03:55, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Definitely B, lots of references but needs to be more expansive for GA status and beyond. Once you gear up to do that, you could always post the references for Hayes that you find on her talk page, that way I could help out :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:00, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Hehe, I could do that..and I think I will also work on trying to get Nadia Yassir to GA status. But my real goal? Getting Jack Bauer to featured article status. It would look quite good on an RFA. I'm gettng admin coaching. And also, I prefer bullets, so don't mind if I realign your comments on my talk page :P Steve Crossin (talk) 04:05, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • That's fine, and good use of an old school laughing face, I love those. :D Yeah, I added the little content there is to the Bauer article, good luck finding anything on how the character was created :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:11, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, after reviewing the Jack Bauer article, there is WAY too much plot information to be kept. Now, ever since I've been at Wikipedia, I've been watching this struggle between the mergists/deletionists VS the inclusionists, regarding the 24 articles. It's actually something I have to answer in my admin coaching questions. I think that a regurgitation of the plot is unnecessary, however a brief summary, if properly referenced, such as in the Karen Hayes article, and if it helps show their characteristics, then it could be helpful. What's your opinion on this? And, as for the interviews on Hayes, I will have to add & reference them myself, as I'm unsure if you have the magazines. And, just repeating, an admin said I could use them as a source. Steve Crossin (talk) 04:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Your correct, a brief summary of her appearances in {real life) chronological order, not 24-universe time order, would be appropriate. I would be classified as a "deletionist", though I do not accept the label myself, I'm more of a "reliable sources-ist". I think articles and statements need reliable sources, and if they have them or can get them, great, if not, heave ho! :) As an admin, you should probably toe a fine line to maintain standards and still appease both sides lol, but you can still have your own style, giving unreferenced info the benefit of the doubt or not. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, if, and, when I become an admin, if a case regarding 24 comes up, I would probably recuse myself. However, I have changed my initial opinion of these articles to a more neutral opinion, see this here [3], I changed my opinion. Some characters do not require their own article, but some of the characters, such as Sherry Palmer, were even suggested to be merged by one user. This isn't a personal attack, its just a fact. Steve Crossin (talk) 04:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism warning

Your vandalism warning to RedRocket's talk page is unwarrented, as he was reverting vandalism on the article you suggested. Last time I remember, reverting vandalism wasn't subject to 3RR. Therefore, I am removing the message. Daedalus (talk) 08:05, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

WP:3RR warning

I appreciate you placing the warning for WP:3RR on my page for my edits on Ohio State University. However, WP:3RR does not apply in cases of "reverts to undo actions performed by banned users or currently blocked users evading their block," which is the case here. The article is under attack by sockpuppets of User:Fiesta bowl, who has already been also banned tonight as User:Sebastiantheibis, User:130.17.46.81, and User:96.232.122.183. All of his edits are to reinstate the same WP:NPOV edit that got him banned in his original identity. My actions tonight were in reverting the edits of a banned user, and I have also been in contact with administrator User:Gogo Dodo, who has blocked the user. I appreciate your attention to the matter, but I am aware of the definition of WP:3RR and feel I have not violated the policy. Thanks! Redrocket (talk) 08:07, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi Steve. I noticed that you're an admin of some sort. I was wondering if you could pay some attention to the Kitty Pryde page? A few of us have had t consistently revert some OR by a user (no name, only IP) and we've tried explaining to the poster why the content is not applicable, but the poster will not stop. If you could take a look at the recent changes and see what I mean and possibly intervene, I'd appreciate it. Please let me know if you have any questions about it. Thanks! Luminum (talk) 14:55, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Ah, thanks for the clear up. Well, most of the dialogue with the poster in question has been within the edit summaries. Basically I and another user have told this poster in our "reasons for editing" that it is original research and that OR is not appropriate on a Wiki page. On top of it, the two of us have had a written discourse about it on the talk page and included a third user. Basically, what we would like is to petition for page protection, but I have no idea how to do it and WesleyDodds hasn't done it. I usually try to write more on my reasons for reverting edits, but it seems pretty clear when looking at the comparisons not to mention that space for edit summary is short.Luminum (talk) 21:38, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I would recommend that you place the {{subst:uw-nor1}} template on their talk pages, as this is the follow up the edit summary. Also, you could request for semi-protection under vandalism, if it continues. Constant re-addition of original research would constituite vandalism, so that is probably what I would recommend. But firstly, I would recommend that you discuss the issue with them, point out our relevant policies on original research, and, if it continues, seek intervention. Just a note- I'm not an admin, so I can't enforce anything, but I will watch the page, and if it continues, I will request protection myself. Cheers, Steve Crossin (talk) 21:49, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Userpage

Well since you asked me to comment. Here are my suggestions. The red-hand comes across negatively to me. Would any of these (I removed the gallery) Steve Crossin (talk) 03:49, 11 March 2008 (UTC) work? And I wouldn't say "I primarialy fight vandalism on Wikipedia" since 1. It pigeon-holes your abilities. 2. Some people will say your accusing them of vandalism. I'd go with "I mostly patrol new and recently changed pages". Everything else looks good to m. MBisanz talk 03:36, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Removing the gallery is fine, it would look rather odd in a talkpage archive. Don't worry about getting the questions done in any period of time. I like to follow a version of rule 4 at Wikipedia:EFD#Instruction_creep, admin coaching should be something additional to your editing, if you find you can do 50 mainspace edits and 2 coaching edits or 10 mainspace edits and 15 coaching edits, do the 50 mainspace edits. I'll always have more lessons and some will take time to do. Your doing great right now. MBisanz talk 03:59, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi its honyu on ice. I updated your vandalism counter, therefore vandalizing your page. This means the counter is still valid. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Byederek (talkcontribs) 09:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Table of Contents

Hi. I've been trying to change the table of contents of Planned high-speed rail by country into a normal one, in line with other articles regarding this subject. You have accused me of vandalism because of this, why exactly?--Joop20 (talk) 13:00, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Planned high-speed rail by country. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. --DAJF (talk) 13:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I noticed the message you recently left to a newcomer. Please remember to try not to bite the newcomers. If you see someone make a common mistake, try to politely point out what they did wrong and how to correct it. Thank you. --DAJF (talk) 13:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Are you using WP:HUG or something?! I haven't seen that many reverts since lookin' at my OWN contribs! Enjoy this barnstar--you earned it. Two One Six Five Five τ ʃ 13:31, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Yep, you got that right. I use Huggle, recently I've been a little bit inactive in vandal fighting, but, I've decided to get back onto it. I had to create that message -points to message at the top of the page- because I felt it necessary, too many people yelling, or vandalising my page, because I cleaned vandalism. Anyway, I've seen you alot too, you're a good vandal fighter. Thanks again, and, I'm sure you will see more of me. Gonna get coffee, then another 4 hours or so of Huggeling. Why did you delete my Sartell edit, you know nothing about Sartell.

  • I reverted your edit because they were clearly vandalism. See these diffs. [4][5][6]. Thats why. They were vandalism. Sure, I may not know about that place. Re: Question about adding source

Hi, you recently asked me about adding source information for the Population updates. I'm not exactly sure how to do that, but the content is legit. It comes for the US Census Bureau website. (I'm actually going to school to be a population demographer, so that's why I'm doing this) Any help on how to do that would be great! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael herc (talkcontribs) 06:06, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Then, just paste it into my talk page here, and I can explain how to add external references. And, you may not know, but you should sign your comments, by typing 4 tildes (~~~~) after your comments.
