Dance of the Dead deletion.

I recently posted a page on "Dance of the dead (2007) film" You claimed it to be "utter nonsense." This is not the case. I saw it at tha Atlanat film festival the other week, and had an IMDB link to back it up. Granted I got the date wrong, as it was a 2008 release, but it is a legitimate film. I don't know why you delted it. Could you please undelete it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whm2 (talkcontribs) 22:28, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Please provide a link to some online news coverage or another way (besides imdb, which anyone can edit) to verify this movie. Stifle (talk) 07:28, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Here's it's offccial website http://danceofthedeadmovie.com/

and Here's an Atlanat Journal Article on it

OK, I've restored the page so that we can have a wider community discussion on the matter. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dance of the Dead (2007 film) for more. Stifle (talk) 08:28, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of page 'simania'

Hello,

We created a page about the company corresponding to the wikipedia.org.il page: http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%A1%D7%99%D7%9E%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%94_%28%D7%90%D7%AA%D7%A8_%D7%90%D7%99%D7%A0%D7%98%D7%A8%D7%A0%D7%98%29

As I mentioned in the discussion page, Simania.co.il is the leading book site in Israel getting over 200,000 unique visitors per month, has interesting recommendation algorithms and a unique blend of book related options.

There is public interest about the company and its site.

Please undelete the page.

Thank you.

Laviavigdor (talk) 08:12, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Simania.co.il was deleted under criterion 7 under Articles at WP:Criteria for speedy deletion, because it was an article about web content that does not explain its importance or significance. Please see WP:WEB for details of how a website might be notable. If you think that the site meets those criteria, please explain which one it meets and provide citations from reliable sources to verify that, and I will undelete it.

Edits to The Way to Happiness

Hello:

I have devoted more time to reading your rules and agree to abide by them. I am fascinate dy Wikipedia and would like to continue adding neutral, correct information regarding the Way to Happiness.

I'd like to learn more on how to tag information that others add which I find incorrect and I would like to learn how to defend my addtions where I cite primary research supported by secondary research and that is deleted by a user.

To be clear, I am a pro Scientology. The person (Cirt) editing the article is clearly anti-scientology. I have no problem with his adding his "controversial" content but I would like to add correct, verifiable, netural, encyclopedic content which sheds light on positive aspects of The Way to Happiness and would like it to remain there, and not be summarily deleted (vandalized) and stilted to a negative connotation (pulp fiction) and the Humanitarian issue.

If you are going to be watching these edits, I'd like your advice on this.

I would like to add after the first line of the defition. The scentence "The Way to Happiness is available in 93 languages and, to date, over 74 million copies have been distributed world wide" This is a primary research fact from The Way to Happiness Foundation.

I'll wait a few days for your reponse, in the meantime I'll refrain from editing this page and read your policies.

Regards

Gabriel Gabef8008 (talk) 20:23, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

If you have a secondary source (i.e. a newspaper, book, or magazine unconnected with Scientology) that states that fact, you can add that, otherwise you can't. Please see WP:SPS for more information about this.
We're all declaring our interests here, so I'll be clear that I am passively anti-Scientology (i.e. I tell people I don't like it, rather than joining Anonymous or protesting to try and get it banned. But I absolutely defend your right to contribute here insofar as you can do so in compliance with policy. Stifle (talk) 20:31, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
I find it interesting that the user can not limit his comments to the article itself, but must feel the need to comment about me, the contributor, as opposed to focusing solely on the content of the article, in the same comment to you. Cirt (talk) 20:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Stifle:
Thank you for your post. I've studied the verifiability policy and will abide by it. I will contact The Way to Happliness to collect third party articles from reliable sources which shed a postive light on the Way to Happiness. I'm sure there are many.
Thank you for your candor in your point of view regarding Scientology. I respect it. And thank you for your statement in protecting my rights to contribute in compliance with your policies.
Would you accept a copy of The Way to Happiness as a token of my appreciation for your defense of my rights?

Jazzy Spring Festival Bucharest

Hello Stifle,

I intend to write an article about a jazz festival that is running every April in Bucharest. I really think it's important to have some words in Wikipedia about the only jazz festival running in Bucharest Romania. Yes, it's sad but it's true: we only have this jazz festival running in Bucharest.

As you already have deleted one article with the same name, I would really appreciate if you could take a look on it's new version and tell me if this can be accepted or not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dubluzet/Sandbox1

I remind you the deletion: (Deletion log); 11:03 . . Stifle (Talk | contribs) deleted "Jazzy Spring Festival Bucharest" (A7 (group): Group/band/club/company/etc; doesn't indicate importance/significance)

Thank you,

The article lacks citations from reliable sources and as such does not conform to the verifiability policy. It also does not clearly explain what makes it notable. Stifle (talk) 12:41, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Question about AfD process.

I'm curious to know how AfDs are resolved.
I've started an AfD on Psychonaut. To my mind, article is WP:MADEUP or WP:OR, though this would be subject to debate, but is also unambiguously un-cited, despite the article being four years old and having a warning tag on this since May 2007.
Many comments in the AfD are running along the lines of "Keep - We don't need to have cites", which strikes me as not according to Wikipedia policy.
-- So, to what extent is AfD a popularity contest, and to what extent does it hinge on policies? If many people vote Keep, do we disregard policy problems? Who makes the call on AfDs? An admin?
Thanks -- Writtenonsand (talk) 21:58, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Very good question. I find AFD to be a mixture of both. In the case that an article clearly does not meet policies, but a strong majority of users suggest keeping it, it will tend to be kept anyway, if for no other reason than consensus can change. If, on the other hand, the keep and delete "votes" are close together but one side is grounded in policy and the other is more aspirational or citing a number of the arguments considered invalid, then the admin should exercise discretion and declare the result accordingly. I did that recently at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of victims of the Virginia Tech massacre (4th nomination), which decision was ultimately upheld on review.
In the present discussion, very few of those keep "votes" were grounded in policy. As you correctly pointed out it is for those seeking material to be included to verify it. I would wait a month or so then renominate the page, pointing out that no citations have been included since the last discussion and that all the keep "votes" were conditional on citations being added or had a mention that they were needed. In the face of such a small propotion of delete "votes" I don't think that a deletion review would overturn the discussion. Stifle (talk) 12:44, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of The Union (U.P.Y.O.U.R.S.) article

Came across this deletion of yours by chance. While I'm not very knowledgeable about the WWE, this article seemed legit (looking at the Google cache). The Union was a stable which certainly did exist within the WWE. So why the deletion? Calzero (talk) 01:17, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I couldn't find a page with that name. Please specify the exact title including punctuation. Stifle (talk) 12:53, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Article The Union (U.P.Y.O.U.R.S) no longer exists. Here is the deletion log. Calzero (talk) 16:01, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah. I see now.
  • I was asked to move that article to The Union (professional wrestling) because it couldn't be moved manually.
  • I moved that page, deleting the target page to do so.
  • Then I thought that the origin page was a vandalistic redirect (when in fact it was just misspelt, missing a period at the end), so I deleted it.
The page still exists at the above title and you can feel free to recreate one or more redirects from alternative names to it. Stifle (talk) 20:55, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. I'll fix the bunk redirect from page Union (disambiguation) that led me to the deleted page. Calzero (talk) 04:11, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Comments should be brief (not more than a few sentences). But note that comments from unregistered users are not usually taken into account. Stifle (talk) 11:36, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

On "How are things?"

Dear Stifle, thank you for your kind note. I am fine and as you may have noticed am still around — though guiltily. I reciprocally hope that you are fine. As for my notes on my page, you are right, I should change the one in which I announce my leaving Wikipedia. I shall do that sometime in the coming time. With kind regards, --BF 02:42, 7 May 2008 (UTC).

Do you really think that all IPC articles are inherently unencylopedic? The kind that usually wind up at AfD tend to be a terrible mess, but there are a few good ones out there. --NickPenguin(contribs) 02:54, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I do, but primarily because I am a deletionist. Stifle (talk) 10:29, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
passing by. I think that almost all of them are in fact encyclopedic as summaries and reorganisations of material elsewhere. DGG (talk) 03:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't think there's anything about being a deletionist that says you can't enjoy a well written article about a particular thing's influence/depiction in popular cultural. Non-notable crap is exactly that, non-notable and crap, but there are good IPC articles which are more than just a list of references, as I tried to show with the examples I left. --NickPenguin(contribs) 11:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Stifle. I can't remember exactly what brought me to your User page now, but I just thought I'd say that as far as I'm concerned explaining one's likely actions in a given situation using pseudocode is a Good Thing, and I heartily support it. Olaf Davis | Talk 10:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello Stifle, could you change the template-protection to autoconfirmed-protected, so that I can edit there, please? Otherwise you have to write [[de:Vorlage:Deaktiviert]] yourself ;-) greetings -- Ra'ike talk de-user 12:11, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I've added that interwiki link in. There was some nonsense vandalism by various users and the template is used by many, so I am not going to unprotect it.
For future reference, please note that it's possible to place {{editprotected}} on the talk page of a protected page which will call an admin's attention to the fact that an edit is required. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 16:47, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

That article had just been undeleted by another user because I was going to add to it. I would really like for it to be undeleted again. I have the sources to assert notability. Next time please try to allow for a window of time for changes to occur. EDIT: I just went ahead and undeleted it because someone else had undeleted it before just so I could add to it - WhisperToMe (talk) 22:07, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

  • "is an actress[1], entertainer[2], and personality from Taiwan, Republic of China." - I think this and the references make it clear that this article is notable. When a reference from a major Taiwanese paper describes Pai as notable, she is notable. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:28, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
The article as I tagged it didn't assert notability, but thanks for improving it so that it does. Stifle (talk) 20:10, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Dear Sir, I provided a reference to Professor Gary Beckman's faculty position: [1] which features a list of all his publications below. Here is an interesting book review which he wrote of Trevor Bryce's 1998 book, The Kingdom of the Hittites.: [2]. Beckman is important because he is one of the few Hittitologists in the US who specialises in the history of the Ancient Hittites. He has published in numerous serials including Akkadica: see 'Hittite chronology.' [3] So, he is notable enough--in his field of study on the Hittites. He also published a second edition of "Hittite Diplomatic Texts" here: [4] and edited a second book: [5] I was unable to add the links to these article since you deleted it. I request that you kindly reinstate his article but attach a historian stub tag to it, please. Such a tag is applied to Trevor R. Bryce who is also a Hittitologist that has published several books. Thank You. Artene50 (talk) 21:19, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Stifle, I came to ask about that deletion. You speedy deleted the article on the same day that it was kept in an AfD discussion. I didn't know about the DRV. Aleta Sing 04:00, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't see the DRV? Anyway, Stifle, would you look at the AfD and revert your deletion based upon that. I think in light of the AfD "close as keep" it was a mistake to delete the article. If you really think it should be deleted, you could of course renominate it for a second AfD. Aleta Sing 04:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
It's restored now, but what part of "Before listing a review request, attempt to discuss the matter with the admin who deleted the page" didn't register with you? Stifle (talk) 08:53, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
