Oversight election

I'm very sorry for the failure/withdrawal of your candidacy and want to thank you for your effort. To cheer you up perhaps a little bit, may I also say that I had intended to support you. Best wishes ~~ Phoe talk ~~ 00:26, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. Stifle (talk) 17:01, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Even though I opposed, I would like to offer my commiserations. As I said in the rationale for my oppose, I definitely see the potential in you, so in the future I may support you for oversight. Keep up the great work; even if you're unfit for oversight at present, you're still a fantastic editor and admin. Best, Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 17:57, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you too. Stifle (talk) 18:01, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

My question is about this image,

File:Mayte (195).jpg

This image is not free. It was taken from another site from someone who does not own the photograph copyright. It has been up for quite a while since it has been disputed, it should have been deleted by now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.172.56.237 (talk) 06:01, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

  • I can't delete this image as I made the listing. Some admin will delete it soon. Stifle (talk) 14:45, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Speedy Delete: Alana Leigh

I've been around for awhile, and I personally find it insulting that you would speedy delete an article that I spent over an hour editing. I think I know by now what meets criteria for BIO and what does not. Why dont you just go ahead and delete all of the biographys while you're at it? Well anyway, thanks again pal. Stubbleboy (talk) 16:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

  • I felt that the article met the criteria for speedy deletion; if you have further details beyond what was in the article, I can undelete it, or if you need more time, I can userfy it for you.
If you feel other articles meet the criteria for speedy deletion, please tag them accordingly. Stifle (talk) 19:25, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Feedback

Saw your run for oversight and your request for feedback. I think you probably know why you didn't make it, but since you asked. I think a lot of the opposition stemmed from your deletionist stance rather than any notions that you'd actually abuse the tools. Bummer, but that's my 2 cents. FWIW, I think you were brave to stand up there and take the hit. I doubt I'd have supported you, I don't tend to vote in these things unless I feel really strongly, but I wouldn't have opposed you either and wouldn't have been bothered either way had you got whatever toolset it is you were going for. The trouble with elections is that they don't always elect the people who are actually the right person for the job. They tend to elect people who are good at getting votes, which can sometimes involve a different skill set to that which the job requires. Anyways, best wishes. I know you're not someone who is going to get beaten up over this, but just in case, keep your chin up. Hiding T 09:57, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for that. Stifle (talk) 08:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

ooops ... I overshadowed your !vote

Sorry if I might have overshadowed your !vote at DRV. It was not intentional. From previous encounters, I knew we were not getting the full story. Hopefully the "compromise" we seem to finally have come to will work. Sorry it got as far as DRV :) Exit2DOS CtrlAltDel 02:56, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

You shouldn't have deleted LuAnne Henderson BIO

Hi, You deleted LuAnne Henderson's bio in 2008. I'm fully aware of the guidelines for inclusions of biographies, and I personally think it should be brought back. I have a lot of references information about her and her pictures, and therefore can help with reconstructing her bio page if that is appropriate. When I read about her in Jack Kerouac's book "On the Road" , I wanted to learn more about her life, and found it quite hard to do so because her information is scattered through a large number of webpages owned by different people. It would have been nice if there was one clean wiki article where I could learn this information.

She played a very huge role in shaping the authors of the beat generation (especially her husband Neil Cassady and boyfriend Jack Keruoac, and some would say her unconventional and novel attitude and personality was what made the members of the Beat Generation the way they were.

One famous picture of her from 1946 (which I can put up) shows her wearing a short skirt that exposes her undergarments - indicating that Hugh Hefner's playboy magezine that strated in 1951 did not break as many barriers as people think. Also, since her legs are shaved in it, this picture disproves the legend that leg shaving started after world war two when a nurse came back with shaved legs (since it was taken in 1946 and she had no contact with the WWII nurse at the time). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr. Universe (talkcontribs) 21:05, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Do you have any reliable sources which verify this? Stifle (talk) 11:21, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi again, could you please bring back this image? It was deleted earlier by one user for an inappropriate reason. Thanks. Joyson Noel (talk) 15:22, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Please note, that there is already an unfree image of Ibn Al-Khattab which is used in the article. Why do need so many unfree images of him? The picture Image:Ibnkhattab young.jpg was unfree as well, and the man just wasn't notable as a child. The pic doesn't seem to convey any essential information. I'm not an expert in Wikipedia fair use policy, but I wanted to explain the situation. Offliner (talk) 16:37, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
You'll need to request restoration of the administrator who deleted the image. If he doesn't restore it, use WP:DRV. Stifle (talk) 18:38, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

BuildingGreen, LLC

You removed a page entitled "BuildingGreen, LLC" earlier this year. A staff member in our marketing department would like to re-work the page. Can you provide us with a copy of the deleted page? Thanks. Bbecker44 (talk) 17:55, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Per WP:COI, staff members in your marketing department shouldn't really be writing about your company. However, if you provide me with a couple of reliable sources which discuss the company and go some way to suggesting how it may meet WP:CORP, I'll restore it into your userspace. OTRS

Regarding your change to Declaration of consent, I know exactly what you mean. :D I saw one yesterday--maybe the same one that prompted your note? But I'm having surgery next Tuesday, so I'm not responding to OTRS tickets that require follow-up, since I may not be available to do so quickly.

By the way, I remember when you went away, you made some kind of note on your OTRS account. Do you know if there's a protocol for that? I don't think I'll be "out of office" more than a week (probably not that long for e-mail; it would take some powerful meds to keep me offline for a week), but I don't know if there's somebody for me to tell that I'm going to be out of touch.

Incidentally, I continue under the belief that OTRS would fall apart without you. You are the man. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:02, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

You can set an out of office in OTRS, just go to Preferences and it's at the bottom right. It has the effect that any replies sent to tickets where you are the owner do not lock the ticket, they just go into the queue for another agent to pick up. You still get an email notification.
There's no other protocol than that, or if there is, nobody's told me about it :) Stifle (talk) 12:49, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Pitbull discography

Hey there Stifle, I noticed you were the protecting admin of Pitbull discography after it was recreated several times after its AfD. Considering the AfD was nearly two years ago and was protected over a year ago, I went ahead and created a subpage for the discography and have hopefully addressed the concerns. I was hoping you could look it over and give it a thumbs up for the article space. Regards. — Σxplicit 22:28, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

How soon do you need an answer?

It looks as though I have missed your time frame. I cannot find anything regarding your question of 09:33, 1 July 2009 (UTC). The link to that discussion is broken and I am unable to track it down on my own.

Personally, I try to keep from getting over invested. That said, I will not hesitate to share any perspective or information that I would deem to work for the benefit of Wikipedia.

I surmise that there is a time frame, and that I have missed it. Very well, but I dare say that brings the very subject of time frames into discussion; however, no one seems to have addressed those details to date.

Thank you for your attention and kind consideration.

Articles that have been previously Prod'ed are not eligible for a second prod. I would expect a wikipedia administrator to know that. Please exercise more care in the future. LoverOfTheRussianQueen (talk) 02:44, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I am aware of this rule, but didn't see that there was a previous PROD. This is because I came upon the page in new page patrol, and assumed that a previous PRODder would have patrolled the page. Please assume more good faith in the future. I am nominating the article for AFD. Stifle (talk) 08:25, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
What does AGF have to do with it? You were, by your own admission, a bit careless - you prod'ed an article that was previously prod'ed, and didn't check or didn't see that it had been prod'ed. There's no shame in that - I just asked you to exercise more care in the future. LoverOfTheRussianQueen (talk) 13:49, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Due to the lack of tone of voice in textual communications, I viewed your message ("I would expect", "exercise more care") as accusatory. I'm glad to now see it was not intended that way. Stifle (talk) 13:51, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

OTRS check and some clue...

Hi Stifle, Can you please check if this ticket would be appropriate on the File:Susan hutchison.jpg. I am clueless as to whether OTRS permissions apply only to a specific user or only to a specific website or both. In this case, the file (uploaded by a different user) was deleted after I tagged it for improper fair use. User:Spamd has re-uploaded it, and after tagging again, I realized this contributor filed the above OTRS. I cannot find the photo on the campaign website, however the file source says Friends of Susan Hutchison which would be her campaign fund. I guess my question is: how specific are OTRS permissions to what can be uploaded? Cheers. CactusWriter | needles 10:20, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

That ticket applies only to text, I'm afraid. Stifle (talk) 11:29, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for checking. One other quick question... For a file has been deleted once already for improper fair use, and then is uploaded again, is the tagging process repeated (meaning another RFU template)? Or is there a different CSD deletion tag to be used? CactusWriter | needles 12:33, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Strictly speaking, you have to use the RFU template again. The only way to perform a "stickier" deletion would be to list the image for FFD and get it deleted there. Stifle (talk) 13:39, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks. CactusWriter | needles 14:52, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey Stifle. I believe you are aware of this user and his continuous WP:NFCC violating uploads? However, now its getting ridiculous and out of hand. Inspite of User:J Milburn warning him for an impending block, the user is continuing uploading a number of images grossly failing WP:NFCC. I just got around removing all of them from the Madonna articles and orphan warnings have appeared on his talk page. I'm afraid the user will try to add them back again despite repeated explanations regarding WP:NFCC. What do you propose for action? --Legolas (talk2me) 12:42, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually in fairness, he doesn't seem to have uploaded anything since J Milburn's final final warning. So I am inclined to leave it be for now. Stifle (talk) 14:15, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Well uploaded the File:Holidayliveperformances.jpg just yesterday, although a similar file exists in teh article Holiday (Madonna song). Problem is, the file uploading contribution of this user shows that he is uploading files, which are already properly licensed, over and over again, probably just to ensure that his pictures are put in the article. Repeated explanations by J Milburn regarding these aspects are evading his actions, that's why I'm concerned. --Legolas (talk2me) 04:12, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Proposal for Queen Arwa University deletion.

Dear sir, I will be so glad if explain to me how you found this article was copied from another article? If you were aiming at some other Yemeni university article, then you are somehow right. This is because I am the one who wrote them, Queen Arwa University, University of Hadhramout, Taiz University, Hodeidah University, and Ibb University. I was expecting expanding these articles but not deletion! I can type as many words as I can but in the end I am not that skilled in English language. You can see these articles in Arabic site too. Please don't consider my talk as an attack; I need just to enrich articles about Yemen but honestly. I sent this message by mistake to another one (who removed another mistake I did by accident).

I've tried to add some more information about the University, and supported that with the University website page (English beside the original Arabic). I eventually realized some mistake in the template (infobox), in which Taizz University was still there, and corrected it too; however I don't think this would make you doubt about the article! Forgive me, because I lack for the proffesional writing, and expect someday another who can volunteer to rewrite them according to Wiki standards.--Email4mobile (talk) 00:56, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

When I tagged the page, it looked like this: [1]. The info box and several other details specified Taiz university, so it appeared to me that the the article had been copied without making any real change from the other article. As you have improved the article, you are welcome to remove the proposed deletion tag. Stifle (talk) 07:52, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your reply, I confess, I copied some typical paragraphs as the info box but this was due to the fact all these universities have similar properties (Date of establishment), and so I created a typical one and then was making only the necessary changes. I don't know how I didn't notice that the upper title of the infobox was still referring to Taiz University. But that did not mean there was no change; as you could see the image names, Arabic names, and websites were still different. Thanks again for reconsidering this stub-article.--Email4mobile (talk) 09:41, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Um... say what? I didn't create the page, and I'm an administrator and am entitled to remove speedy deletion notices. I'm minded to remove your rollback right for misuse, but would like to avoid the appearance of impropriety. Stifle (talk) 10:24, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Can you please explain why you have attempted to remove the copyright tag from this image? Public domain licensing is not revocable. Stifle (talk) 08:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

  • I have been contacted by the person in the photo and learned that simply pulling the photo from his website is not legal, even thought it's online. I've tried to delete the photo both gif and jpg renditions to be legally compliant. I have been unsuccessul.Rotorwingmaster (talk) 17:33, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
    • Removing the tag from an image doesn't delete it; you need to nominate it for deletion using the instructions at WP:FFD. Stifle (talk) 18:09, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
