Hello there. I am an irregular user of wikipedia but I notice that I have been blocked by you as of January. Are you able to explain to me why?

Hello 0xDeadbeef. I have pinged you because I edit wikipedia extremely irregularly and have just noticed that I have been blocked for using my account "abusively". I pinged the blocking administrator but after looking at their talk page, they state "I turned off most notifications in my preferences, and therefore can't see pings, sorry." so I'm concerned I will not get further clarification from them.

Are you able to help me get clarification as to why I've been blocked? I'm having difficulty understanding as all I have done on wikipedia so far is make 3 positive edits to 3 wikipedia pages in the past.

Please let me know!

Hi again! So I checked your talk page, although you have not responded to me directly, I would like to say: I don't really understand what the connecting evidence is, but I have now read a bit about what "sock accounts" are and I can confirm that I have only ever used this account. I don't recognize any of the accounts in the list you've assigned to my account that's mentioned on your talk page.

Are you able to clarify this further? I'm a bit confused how this happened.

Hi again 0xDeadbeef. Thank you for looking into this issue for me! I checked Materialscientist's talk page and noticed they responded to the message you put there on my behalf. However, they haven't reached out to me so far. I tried ping'ing them again in response to the talk page comment but I haven't heard back from them so far since they don't get pings. Apologies to keep asking for your assistance, I could ask another admin but I just ask because you were able to help a bit last time.

As I said above I'm not really sure why I've been labelled as having a bunch of "sock accounts" as they're called because I'm only ever used this account - is there some way I could get in touch with Materialscientist to find out why I am thought to be associated with other wikipedia users?

Thanks again for your time and my apologies for this: I can reach out to a different admin for assistance if you would prefer. I'm just hoping to get some clarification!

Hi @0xDeadbeef! Thank you once again very much for your response. I have read a bit about appealing blocks and it says the first thing is to get more clarification from the blocking admin if you have any questions about your block before you appeal one. Because it says an unblock request is not the place ask questions about your block.

In my case I don't really understand the block because as I said, I don't recognize any of the accounts listed on that page that Materialscientist has linked.

And I'm not really sure why I'm being assumed to have used accounts other than this one?

Anyway, I appreciate your response and your time so far but I still would really appreciate more information on why my account has been connected with this long list of other accounts. Let me know if you might be able to help with this! Thanks again!

Hi there! Apologies to ping you randomly. I'm just doing so because I've recently realized my account was blocked, and I'm still a bit unsure why. I attempted to contact the blocking admin (Materialscientist) for clarification but they have pings turned off and didn't respond to me directly. I then ping'd another admin (0xDeadbeef) and they did let the blocking admin know I wanted to contact them but they still haven't got back to me. So far both admins have not responded to my questions so I'm wondering - could you help me out? I don't use wikipedia much, but I'm just trying to figure out what happened and how my account came to be blocked. Let me know if you can help!
