where is review

In your recent close, you say "already a move review underway with regards to Pan (genus)", I am not aware of any review (as the proposer of both moves it would be nice to know). What am I missing? cygnis insignis

Cygnis insignis, at Wikipedia:Move review#Pan (genus). Many thanks, SITH (talk) 09:40, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
Or was, when I checked. Help me to understand what is going on, if you see what I am overlooking. There was no notification on this, I proposed the first and subsequent RM and followed all the discussions as they sprang up. There was an extensive discussion before I proposed the move. I notified every other discussion of related changes and proposals, in fairness to those who already had a say. The discussion you linked has (or had) limited participation. Would the decision to reverse the move just be presented to the surprise of those who had already participated in a discussion that was thought to be closed? The objections in the first discussion were very clear, they did not want the second discussion to happen, those who favour a multi-move discussion opposed my single-page RM for the same reason: they favour the arrangement prior to the first move and didn't want the title to be available (but think every link to that page was wrong). Everybody seems sure of their opinion, which is fine with me because I don't need to favour one or the other, and note I while opened the second RM I preferred another solution and no firm opinion on other options. Thanks for the reply. cygnis insignis 11:06, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
Cygnis insignis, a move review is a procedure by which an editor challenges the closure of a requested move discussion. The person who starts the requested move must first attempt to gain clarification on whatever it is in the closing statement they find to be incorrect and if it cannot be reconciled, a move review is started. Users then discuss whether the closure was acceptable per closing instructions. It is not common practice to notify all of the users who took part in the requested move discussion because the move review is not about whether the page should be moved or not, rather it is about whether the closer correctly determined the consensus of the discussion. At the time of my closure of the second RM, the move review concerning the first RM was still active. I hope this clears it up for you, please let me know if you have any further questions. SITH (talk) 11:47, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
That does clear things up, and I should have realised that would be the sensible approach! I don't think anyone is at fault in this, but there is a lot discord in whole business and I prefer to accept some responsibility for putting this in motion. I might see you round again, have a good one. cygnis insignis 12:48, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Manual page swaps

When doing manual page swaps, can you make sure that all 3 moves are done without leaving behind redirects (and then fix the redirect at the old title), so that useless redirects aren't left behind in the Draft:Move/ namespace please? IffyChat -- 14:43, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Iffy, sometimes, it depends if the round robin configuration is needed :) Many thanks, SITH (talk) 18:12, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Declined Draft:Executive Office for United States Attorneys

In reference to a declined draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Executive_Office_for_United_States_Attorneys you provided some great feedback to update. I made some updates so that the Department of Justice is more clearly referenced with respect to paraphrased or directly copies content. What should I do about bulleted information that is pulled directly from the Federal government website. Do I need to cite every bullet if it comes from the same page? Thanks for your time Scott8905 (talk) 15:58, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Scott8905, there's a bunch of templates here that you can use as footnote attribution disclaimers, I think Template:DoJ would probably be the best-placed one considering the article content. SITH (talk) 09:18, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your recommendation(s). I have resubmitted for review. If you have the time I would really appreciate another review to make sure that I followed through. I also added some more inline references and cleaned up a couple that are hopefully up to the Wikipedia standards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scott8905 (talkcontribs) 18:57, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

1994–96 United States broadcast TV realignment

Greetings. I just noticed your close of the requested move concerning of 1994–96 United States broadcast TV realignment. While there was clear consensus to move the page from the previous, I think it should have been moved to "1994–1996 United States broadcast TV realignment," based on feedback at the RM itself and per MOS:DATERANGE. Thanks, Calidum 04:01, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Calidum, that took about a minute of head-scratching! Thanks for pointing that out, it should now be rectified. SITH (talk) 04:12, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
That was quick. Thank you! Calidum 05:00, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Your closure

Hey, thanks for closing this discussion. However, I prefer to have an experienced admin close the discussion. Please open the discussion for me to have it addressed by an experienced admin. Regards. --Mhhossein talk 18:19, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Mhhossein, no problem, done. I usually don't undo closures based on non-administrator status but I am willing to make an exception in this case due to the multiple ANI threads about Iran-related disputes that I don't really want to get involved in! Many thanks, SITH (talk) 23:14, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. After making the request here, I saw there was a venue for having the moves reviewed. Yeah I understand what you said regarding the threads. Regards. --Mhhossein talk 03:34, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
Mhhossein, yep, but MRV should only take place if a query can't be settled on the closer's talk page. Hopefully that's not the case here! SITH (talk) 19:35, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi again, sorry for the delay. Yes we can settle it down here. Then I should let you know why I though the closure was not proper: In ictu oculi's oppose was mainly based on 2011 Iran assassination plot, which was actually 2011 alleged Iran assassination plot. There are 3 more oppose comments; One for Icewhiz with the other two being "per Icewhiz" adding nothing to the arguments. You may see that, as the admin said, "the summary of those articles [brought up by Icewhiz] was insufficient, and amounts to synthesis of content where it instead claimed that the term "alleged" was no longer used." Later Icewhiz said fresh sources where saying it as a fact, but you can see that even fresh sources are caution with attributing the incident to Iran and instead use terms like "alleged", "claimed", "accused" and etc. That said, I think the arguments raised by the users supporting the move (me, Kraose, Saff V. and Kraose) were convincing. I think reliable independent sources are supporting the move. --Mhhossein talk 12:44, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

I add significant coverage and articles too but again rejected it please tell me which information is not sufficient. Please let me know what are the information needs this draft, please tell me why you declined the draft. Dotgirlfine (talk) 07:28, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

@Dotgirlfine: I declined the draft because it appears that the concerns raised at the AfD had not been fixed in the latest submission, therefore accepting it would mean it would likely get deleted again. SITH (talk) 11:59, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Discussion regarding deletion tag addition on 23-24 February

Speedy deletion declined: The Railway Educational Bureau

Hello StraussInTheHouse. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of The Railway Educational Bureau, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: claims to be part of Simmons-Boardman Publishing, so consider merging(/redirecting there per WP:ATD. I suggest you install User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js. It adds links to the deletion log and previous XFDs if they exist. The links don’t show if there are no XDFs or deletions for that title, so it’s a quick way to find previously-discussed pages. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 14:02, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Von Kampen Trio

Hello StraussInTheHouse. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Von Kampen Trio, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: claims coverage in reliable sources (which I cannot access due to GDPR). Thank you. SoWhy 12:55, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Your recent proposed deletions

Yesterday you proposed around 40 articles for deletion in the space of a few minutes. In most cases they either already cited reliable sources, or such sources were easy to find, and they have now been deproded. Proposed deletion is for uncontroversial deletion candidates only. You appear to have proposed these articles for deletion because of a lack of sources in the articles themselves. This is not an appropriate use of proposed deletion. --Michig (talk) 09:41, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

Michig, you're more than welcome to de-PROD them, I note you have done so already on most of them, so I shall be sending them to AfD as I still don't think they pass WP:BAND. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 10:46, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
Maybe you could have followed WP:BEFORE before wasting our time with dozens of AfDs that are going to end in keep? --Michig (talk) 10:57, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
Michig, please find the AfDs here. You're more than welcome to voice your disapproval there, however as I have said, before I PROD-ed them, I did a standard BEFORE search for each of them, so I see no reason to repeat those searches before sending them to AfD when your summary for de-PROD-ing them merely asserted that reliable sources exist without citing them. Anyway, let's not fall out, eh? SITH (talk) 11:01, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

*for nominating so many articles so quickly, and from above "your summary for de-PROD-ing them merely asserted that reliable sources exist without citing them." while your afds do the same ie. asserting that WP:BEFORE done ("I did a standard BEFORE search for each of them,") without showing it. Coolabahapple (talk) 00:57, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Coolabahapple, I've reassessed and withdrawn most of them. Thanks for the trout :P SITH (talk) 16:06, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Recent deletion of Defence Unlimited International

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the review. Could you kindly allow me to access this content again somehow so that I can make the necessary edits?

Thanks a lot in advance

Robert Trunciera (talk) 15:40, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Trunciera, I think most of it was directly from your website, you can make an undeletion request to any administrator, however I would think it is unlikely that one would accept it as it was 96% a copyright violation. Thanks, SITH (talk) 16:11, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks again. I have started a new draft with the same name. It is at an early stage, but could you tell me if you think that this time around the article is moving in the correct direction? Thanks Trunciera (talk) 21:51, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
It's definitely an improvement on the last draft SITH (talk) 11:28, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Draft rejection Ernest Walker Simons

Hello. I received an email saying that my new article was rejected, but you did not say what part was in violation. It referred to my use of supposedly copyrighted material. I am not sure what could possibly be copyrighted, since virtually any references to this man you will find on the Internet were written by *me* (his findagrave.com bio, etc.), and if they were not from my own written sources, the references are from works at least 100 years old, now in the public domain. There is very little written about him. Where is this copyrighted material? The photo is mine as well. Please point out the offending passages if you will. I am still very new at this, and the secret code speak here baffles me.

Thank you. -Jon Jgcolcord (talk) 16:04, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Jgcolcord, Special:Diff/884870723 details the removals made, they were directly copied from the URL listed on the talk page message. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 16:06, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. Changes can be easily made here. I suspect that work is far out of any copyright, and it was not actually pasted from anywhere. I had to transcribe it from the 100-year old book. Would it be sufficient to simply leave those passages in an article simply and place quotation marks where appropriate? It’s not a big deal for me to reword it here obviously, but I would like to know for future reference, and I also have a similar article up for review concerning the Simons factory.
Thanks,
-Jon — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgcolcord (talkcontribs) 16:30, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
If it's out of copyright that's okay but attribution is still required. SITH (talk) 11:30, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Draft Declined: Maurice Bevan-Brown

Thank you for your feedback. Are all the blockquotes I have used in breach of copyright? (I was under the impression they were fair use, since I exactly cited each one.) Or is it just the NZAP website? Happy to summarise: having just been declined for lack of notability, I thought the quotations would establish it beyond any doubl.--Hugh7 (talk) 03:29, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Hugh7, the short answer is uggggghhhhhhhh! The detailed answer is that long quotes which are subject to copyright can be used under specific circumstances per WP:COPYQUOTE but it's generally favourable to slash the quote down just to the salient points to avoid a copyright dispute pre-emptively. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 11:17, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Deprod: Urapopstar

Hello, I have deprodded Urapopstar, which you proposed for deletion, because it was discussed at WP:AFD in 2005 and is therefore ineligible for prod. I only did this to comply with policy, and I have no prejudice against nominating this article at AfD again. Thanks. —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:52, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Kuyabribri, thanks for letting me know, done. SITH (talk) 11:26, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Draft Declined APM Monaco

Thank you for your review. I don't understand why the submission was declined because of 'copyrighted content'. The content you mentioned that was 'copied' from elsewhere is not related at all to my article subject. The link you sent is about a book called 'Muddy Shoes'and it's not related to APM Monaco (jewelry): armenian-poetry.blogspot.com/2009/04/majid-naficy-little-armenia.html, amazon.com/Muddy-Shoes-Majid-Naficy/dp/189218401X, amazon.com/FATHER-SON-MAJID-NAFICY/dp/1888996684 Could you please help to check if there was a mistake or confusion during the review process and review it again? Declined Draft: George Gibb Nicholson

Dear SITH, Thank you for your feedback. I have now gone through the entire draft and deleted all extended quotations. I have rewritten in my own words the paragraphs where those quotations were. I have also made sure that I am not closely paraphrasing what others have written. Those quotations that remain are brief and accompanied in every case by a citation. Would you please review the draft and let me know if it is ready to be resubmitted? Thanks, Perseus25 (talk) 05:48, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Perseus25, much better. It's a pain but we have to be careful per WP:LONGQUOTE as avoiding even potential copyvios is high on the reviewer's checklist! SITH (talk) 11:32, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply and suggestion, SITH. I will study the WP:LONGQUOTE guidelines. I will also now resubmit the draft. Perseus25 (talk) 11:47, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Declined Draft: Daylight Entertainment

Dear SITH, I am editing my first draft: Daylight Entertainment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Daylight_Entertainment I was told the references didn't meet the wiki standards. Since I was translating and editing this draft based on the same title in Traditional Chinese (which is here) and Category: Television series by Daylight Entertainment, so probably my inexperience caused some reference mistakes. Also, because of the Great Firewall in China, it is hardly to find English references from Google or NYT covering about a specialized area in China. So the references I found are all from independent Chinese media and I am not very sure if it is okay... Could you take a look at the draft and kindly tell if the draft is ready to be resubmitted again? Thank you for your time and help, Mclinyang (talk) 02:28, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Mclinyang, I am not a native speaker of Chinese so I am probably not the best person to ask regarding the translation of sources, however, the version I rejected appeared not to demonstrate the requisite significant coverage for an article. I note two other reviewers have since commented on the draft to this end. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 11:59, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia page: Stefan Raunser

Hi there,

I would like to know why the paragraph for Stefan Raunser with the heading "Education and Career" was deleted. The content was taken from the CV and it has listed factual points outlining his education and the institutions that he had studied at or worked at.

Could you please help me in providing what is necessary in order to have this page submitted/accepted into wikipedia?

Hello again,
I am writing in response to your previous comment. The CV is available on the MPI website publicly: https://www.mpi-dortmund.mpg.de/research-groups/raunser/vita

Draft Declined: CrazyGames (February 24) -- help with verifying traffic of a website

My article was rejected with the comment "SimilarWeb isn't significant coverage." I used Similarweb to reference the traffic to the website. What other references could I use to back this up? Or should I just leave the traffic out? I have many other references for my article and think this reference was the only problem.

I would appreciate it very much if anyone could help me with this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexander1803 (talkcontribs)

Hi Alexander1803, the only citation which covered the website in any depth on the submission was SimilarWeb. My contention is that SimilarWeb documents traffic and doesn't actually show depth of coverage. Try finding major reviews from reliable publications and citing those. A SimilarWeb reference is of no detriment to an article but cannot alone convey notability. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 11:59, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi SITH Thank you so much for your help! I understand now and will try to do that, but this is actually a translation of an existing article in Dutch and French (my mother tongue). The references from De Morgen, Trends, and Emerce are newspaper articles, I thought they qualified as reliable publications. Is it because it is in the wrong language? How do I solve this? Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate your guidance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexander1803 (talkcontribs) 15:58, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi Alexander1803, I think it was because the SimilarWeb reference was relied on more heavily. SITH (talk) 18:37, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Dear strauss, I am trying to get the article to be as neutral and true as possible. I have removed the lines that I couldn't find citations to and have shortened the article to make sure there is no repetition. Can you please check it once again and approve it if you see it fit? Thanks Kjogitha (talk) 10:24, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

Guidance kindly requested

Dear StraussInTheHouse,

Thank you very much for your review of the draft page of W. Patrick Murphy, I am writing to kindly ask for your guidance in order to ameliorate the page. Your comment stated that the page paraphrases content from a bio of Mr Murphy (found at https://fpa.org/events/index.cfm?act=show_event&event_id=548).

As the Wikipedia page itself aims to be a bio, I find it very difficult to avoid repeating the same content. Any concrete guidance would be highly appreciated as I see no copyright infringement of any kind and find the repetition of the same pieces of information unavoidable.

Thank you in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stenobook26 (talkcontribs) 22:06, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Stenobook26, I appreciate the difficulty you're having, however, Wikipedia cannot accept content copied from elsewhere unless it is accompanied by a GFDL or CC-BY-SA license. Try writing about what sources say about Murphy and not exactly what one particular source says about him. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 11:59, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Draft Tine Joustra

Dear SITH, Thank you for reviewing my draft. You ask me to "please cite your (my) sources using footnotes". I would be glad to do so but could you please tell me which sources? I am not aware of writing anything new of unfounded, it is more or less a translation of my Dutch wikipedia page... Thank you for your help, kind regards, Tine Joustra — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tine Joustra (talkcontribs) 11:44, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Tine Joustra, I'm referring to the URLs you have listed at Draft:Tine Joustra#References. English Wikipedia requires inline citations for biographies of living people. I'm not saying that the content of the article is unverified, but due to a lack of inline citations it could reasonably be. For help on referencing, please see WP:REFB. I don't understand what 'no prejudice against speedy renomination' means, and that link is about deletion, not moves. I have read WP:NOTMOVED. This may be because 1. a discussion has fractured into several possible titles and none seem especially suitable, No. 2. or simply because equally strong arguments and appeals to Wikipedia policy and outside sources were found on both sides, without a clear winner in the discussion. The opposing side has not responded to the points brought up, so is not equally strong. Ythlev (talk) 23:54, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Ythlev, I know that page is about deletions but it is, in practice, used in move discussion closures as well. "No prejudice against speedy renomination" means you can start a new requested move with the same rationale and ping the users who contributed in the previous discussion and the closure of the resultant discussion will not take into account the speediness of the renomination. As I have said, we do not relist discussions ad infinitum. I determined there to be no consensus for or against the move and closed it accordingly. If you still disagree with my decision, you are more than welcome to open a move review. SITH (talk) 10:03, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Bio copyright rejection for Manuel Cortes Castaneda

The page submitted: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Manuel_Cort%C3%A9s-Casta%C3%B1eda?action=edit was rejected because the same bio information was found elsewhere on the web. I can write the bio section differently but I want to know how to get the draft version back to edit that section. Now when I log on the whole page is empty as if I had never started it. How do I restore my content so I can delete the offending section? Thanks! Annaleacortes (talk) 19:44, 3 March 2019 (UTC)annaleacortes

Hi Annaleacortes, in the deletion log it give the date and username of the deleting administrator. They will be able to provide you with a copy, presuming that there is salvageable content, however it is at their discretion. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 22:58, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Deleted Draft :Shaun Yeo

Hi StraussInTheHouse, My recent Draft for Shaun Yeo: cartoonist was deleted (March 1) due to copyright infringements. I understand why this was done but would be grateful to have the draft restored so I could make the necessary corrections. Please advise if this is possible. Kind regards, LaRosa77 (talk) 21:50, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi LaRosa77, I can't see it anymore and I cannot remember if it was wholly copied from elsewhere or just in part. I am pinging RHaworth, the deleting administrator, who will be able to judge whether there is any salvageable content. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 22:57, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
SITH, it is very rare for me to salvage parts of a deleted article. I just email the text and let the original author try again - as I have just done for Annaleacortes (see above) and Johncdraper (see Elias G. Carayannis below). — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:44, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Abelmoschus Esculentus' User Scripts

Dear all. Recently, our community lost a dedicated user, Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk). Among their projects were a number of user scripts that they left behind. I (DannyS712) have copied the scripts, and have taken over maintaining them. You currently import one or more of Abelmoschus Esculentus' scripts, and I thought that you might want to import a maintained version. Links to each script are provided below.

Deletion of Draft:Al Pancho

Hello, Thank you so much for contributing to Wikipedia. It is an amazing site.

- I am writing because I created a new page (Al Pancho) and it was rejected for copyright violation twice and now I have been blocked from creating the page. - After the first copyright violation I explained that I had been given permission to reproduce some of the information (on www.alpancho.com). - The second violation was about www.discogs.com but that is the same information, which I have been given permission to reproduce. However, I was not given the chance to explain that and was blocked. That said, I do appreciate all the users efforts to continue to make Wikipedia such an awesome site :)

- It was also rejected because of whether Al Pancho is sufficiently notable. Al Pancho is a fairly well-known music artist. He has a link from a Wikipedia page. He has worked with a lot of famous music artists and smaller artists, all of whom have Wikipedia pages.

- I noticed he didn't have a Wikipedia page when I looked him up. So, I created one for him. I spent a lot of time learning the Wikipedia source code so that it was created correctly. I was also careful to write an unbiased article.

Thank you for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rainbowtribeeditor (talkcontribs) 02:33, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Declined draft: Society of United Professionals copyright issue

Hi SITH. My latest draft was flagged for copyright violations. I'm very confused as to what to qualify as a copyright infringement. I'm new to the process so I'm pleading ignorance here. The previous reviewer flagged concerns with tone and secondary sources that I sought to address, but there was no mention of concern with copyright. I stripped out an offending section and I've since added a large number of secondary sources as references but did not copy content or include content without a reference. Are you able to provide more guidance why this is in violation and how i can address. I appreciate your help and am at a complete loss. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canada4life (talkcontribs) 17:39, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Canada4life, no problem, sometimes copyvios are only picked up second time round. The issue is that text copied from elsewhere can't be used on Wikipedia unless it's a short quote or it's explicitly under a free license. If you could put it into your own words, that'd be great. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 18:09, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Draft Deletion: Jubilate Music Group

Hi StraussInTheHouse!

Thank you so much for your feedback on my draft that I created, the reply was very helpful (here is a link to the deleted draft pagehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Beracah123#Your_submission_at_Articles_for_creation%3A_Jubilate_Music_Group_%28March_1%29). This is my first time ever creating a Wikipedia page, so I'm sure my inexperience was very obvious haha. I am working to get this Wikipedia page published for one of my college class projects, and also believe this company needs to have a Wikipedia page. The comments you left on the deleted draft make total sense and I will work to make edits on some of the information that was pulled directly from their site. I was curious if there was any way I could get the deleted information back, so I could have a starting place on my edits rather than having to start from scratch. I believe that a majority of my information and sources were formatted and sufficient, so I would hate to have to start over completely. I thank you so much for your time, and for taking the time to edit my first draft. I will work hard to make sure my second draft covers all requirements.

Thank you!

Declined Draft:List of Trading Spaces episodes

Hello, You declined my article Draft:List of Trading Spaces episodes on copyright concerns. Please be advised that every other list of episodes copying these sources for summaries (which IS permitted under 17 U.S.C. 107 -- Fair Use for educational and review purposes) without rewriting them, is just as guilty. There seems to be a big double standard here. The short summaries in question are freely provided by the network to identify episodes for various program guides and publications. If you have an issue with that, I can always edit those out. 184.166.187.64 (talk) 13:47, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

You're more than welcome to help in cleaning up copyright violations. Fair use, other than for images and quotes in very specific circumstances, isn't a rationale here. SITH (talk) 14:03, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Declined Draft:John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance

Hi StraussInTheHouse,

Having seen mission statements and articles quoted at length before (all with citations), I did not know that doing so constituted a breach of Wikipedia's copyright infringement policies. Understanding that now, I have updated the content referenced in your notification as indicated below. Please let me know how I could further improve this page to meet your standards of integrity.

Citation 2 - Center Mission (source URL: https://www.weinberg.udel.edu/about-us/center-mission) --> I have deleted, what was, the mission statement quoted at length. I have replaced it with a succinct characterization of the Center's stated mission, while leaving the citation in place.

My latest draft "Advait Thakur" was flagged for copyright violations.

The article written on Medium's The Startup India publication is solely work of my colleague Riya Nair and I have composed this article with her permission to use the content. Moreover it had non-copyright tag on medium which means that it can be used directly or by prephrasing it. I appreciate your help. Thank you

Declined Draft:Rootstock Software

Hello:

Thanks for reviewing this draft. The most recent submission was flagged for copyright violations. The portion of this draft so flagged was subsequently redacted. Does the removal of the section in question (from a Gartner piece) mean that there are NO other copyright violations in the draft? I was very careful not to copy and paste, but in my haste to add citations, I forgot to reword the redacted section (sorry!).

Justin Gabriel RM

Hello, I feel that the RM at Talk: Justin Gabriel could have been relisted another time. WP:RM says that discussions can be relisted up to three times. It even seems there was consensus to move the page. I know it's not a vote, but there was 4 supports and 3 opposes, 2 of the opposes being labeled "weak" by the commenters. The supports were backed by two guidelines, with opposes saying Gabriel might still be the common name. So I do not know if it is possible to still relist it, I would hate to start another RM fairly soon and have everyone comment again. StaticVapor message me! 19:49, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Susan Wilson (photographer)---your rejection comments

Hello. The subject of this Wikipedia page is Susan Wilson (photographer). She is a friend of mine, and she and I have been working together to construct this biographical page on Wikipedia. You claim that there is copyrighted material from her website being used on the page. She provided that material for use in the Wikipedia article. How do you suggest that I can eliminate it? Thanks for your help. Usimodo (talk) 20:44, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Usimodo

Hi Usimodo, just as a procedural point, thanks for disclosing your conflict of interest, I've just slightly altered the code on your userpage to ensure the box displays correctly. You can use the OTRS process to confidentially submit proof that the material used on her website is being used with her consent, or you can ask her to explicitly state on the website that the text is not copyrighted and is released under a free license such as GNU, GFDL, CC BY-SA. However, it would probably be best simply to reword the specific bits copied into your own words. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 20:53, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
1) Note that I disclosed our friendship when I first submitted the content for review on Nov. 25, 2018, where I stated, "This person is a neighbor and friend."
2) I think the simplest solution would be to have her state on her website that the text is not copyrighted and is released under a free license. I will discuss this with her.
3) If we go the route I describe in #2, the content of the Wikipedia page can remain as is, correct? I will let you know via this talk page as soon as we've solved the issue.
Thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Usimodo (talkcontribs) 21:37, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Proper links!

When you apply a {{db-copyvio}} tag, will you please provide a full URL with the http:// or https:// bit in place. For example: {{db-g12|url=https://archives.usc.edu/repositories/3/resources/2764}} instead of {{db-g12|url=archives.usc.edu/repositories/3/resources/2764}}. The first format causes very useful links to be generated to the Duplication Detector report and Copyvios report. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:29, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Ditikeni draft rejection - copyright

Good day, It has come to my attention that my draft article on Ditikeni was rejected, due to supposed copyright infringements. I would like to query this - firstly, I am not sure whch part of the article is being referred to. Secondly, the supposed copyrighted copy was originally included as a reference, but I was then informed I should remove the reference in favour of more broad, academic etc references that did not come from the source of the article itself. So I am confused - do I keep the reference (http://ditikeni.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Ditikeni-AR2018-FINALdigital.pdf) or not? Please help me here - I wudl really like to get this right, Regards, Karen KarenRutter (talk) 08:09, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

KarenRutter, I cannot find Draft:Ditikeni, I have logged the speedy deletion tagging of Draft:Ditikeni Investment Company Limited, so I shall assume you're referring to that. I think (I can't see the page anymore, if you want a copy to work on see here) you were advised to include it as a reference but that doesn't mean copy the content, it means cite it using the instructions here. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 23:01, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

standard decline template

SITH, you wrote elsewhere:

Hoary, that’s just a standard decline template, if you think it should be reworded you can chip in at WT:AFCH. SITH (talk) 08:34, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the invitation. I wrote a reply saying that no, I didn't think it needed to be reworded; I just thought that it was misapplied here. (I wasn't intending to complain about your use of it -- if applying it was indeed a mistake, well, I make mistakes quite often.) But before clicking "Publish changes", I rethought. I'd be expecting every reviewer to chase up evidence for CoI, and I don't think that this is a realistic expectation. (It could even backfire, as I've seen accusations of CoI on very flimsy evidence.) So yes, I think that rewording would be beneficial. As a first stab at this:
You are welcome to write an article on the subject, but please do not use copyrighted work.
You are welcome to write an article on the subject (if you have no conflict of interest), but please do not use copyrighted work.
However, I hesitate to post this on WT:AFCH because I don't frequent that talk page and suspect that the suggestion, or something like it, will have already been made and discussed. -- Hoary (talk) 09:24, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
No problem, I'll crosspost it there. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 23:02, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Declined submission for "Eran Shor"

Hi StraussInTheHouse,

You rejected my draft submission for "Eran Shor" (an academic and sociologist in Canada).

I am wondering if you can give me clearer instructions for how I can improve my page. It says that the page "included copyrighted content," however all of the content in this page was re-worded and re-phrased, and was not copied from anywhere directly. I understand that it may have similar content to the McGill Univerisity page mcgill.ca/sociology/faculty/eran-shor, however it was all re-worded and not copied directly.

How should I cite Eran Shor's research interests? Is it okay for me to only cite the McGill page, as his research interests are not found in other sources?

Please let me know what I can do, I appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Siobhan oconnell, thank you for your message. I have taken another look and on closer inspection, the request for copyright redaction was incorrect. The list of publications is directly copied across, but per the guideline, that's okay as it's a common-knowledge standard-format list. My apologies for the decline. I have removed the templates in question from the page and the draft is now awaiting review. It is in the age category it would have been in had it not been declined i.e. its seniority is maintained, but there is no particular reviewing order. Dear SITH, I have updated the Argyle County Club article to make improvements and to resolve the copyright issues. I have run the source through the the copyright checker tool (which I just learned about) and I believe there are no issues. I don't know where the submitted source resides on Wikipedia and have been using text I saved locally. I am also getting notices that my account has been locked. I am fairly new to Wikipedia and I'm unsure what I should do next. Please let me know how I should move forward. Thanks. Cusack301 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:46, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Cusack301, thanks for your message. Please can you elaborate on the messages about your account being locked? I have checked with a steward and your account isn't locked. With regards to the copyright issue, I'm afraid the tool seems to display a large amount of close paraphrasing from this link. With regards to moving forward, an administrator or copyright clerk will be with the draft shortly to make a decision about whether revision deletion is needed. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 23:13, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Canada

In reviewing the new pages feed I noticed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Canada and your ESSAY and NOR comment at the top. It appears to be a well sourced article and contains some encylopedic contant. However, I also see much duplication with the generic LNG page where it has a great deal of info unrelated to the specifics of LNG in Canada. In general I think that the subject is relevant but the article is problematic. What are your thoughts on how this could be improved? --mikeu talk 01:24, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Mu301, thanks for your message. I think it's been substantially improved since my comments. I declined it on that basis per the standard AFC process. There is a lot of unfocused content that is well-sourced, perhaps such parts could be merged elsewhere? Many thanks, SITH (talk) 09:08, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
The sections:
  • LNG life-cycle
  • LNG compared to diesel
  • Economic Considerations
appear to be generic and unrelated to Canada. I think those could be merged into a different article and replaced with a brief summary. An expanded lede is also needed.
Also, I noticed that the naming convention is usually Natural gas in... and that list includes a Natural gas in Canada stub. --mikeu talk 17:58, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
Mu301, I've proposed a merge. SITH (talk) 21:27, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Sr. Aloysius began painting Icons in 1986. Her painting, Our Lady of Derry, marked her transition from artist to iconographer. She described icon painting as “an act of worship”, stating that the painstaking nature of the work gave her time to reflect and to pray. She often stated that it was not possible to be an iconographer without prayer.
Aside from the first, short sentence (whose origin I haven't investigated), the entire thing is filched verbatim from this web page. If Wikipedia welcomed material copied from other web pages, then the honest way to do this would be something like:
Sr. Aloysius began painting Icons in 1986. "[H]er [...] painting, Our Lady of Derry, marked her transition from artist to iconographer. [...] She described icon painting as 'an act of worship', stating that the painstaking nature of the work [...] gave her time to reflect and to pray. She often stated that it was not possible to be an iconographer without prayer."
However, Wikipedia does not normally welcome material copied from other web pages. Please read and digest Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources. Let me quote a snippet from this: the quotation must not be replaceable with free text (including one that the editor writes), must be minimal [...]. Therefore please write your own text. -- Hoary (talk) 09:30, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your time Hoary - I appreciate the feedback. I will have a look again and strip out most of this content. — Preceding unsigned comment added by COLIND (talkcontribs) 17:12, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
+1 thanks for that Hoary. SITH (talk) 13:10, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Request on 23:07:27, 15 March 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by OfficerMeowMeowFuzzyFace

I submitted an article for Salt Cathedral (band). I used language from the band's biography, available in multiple places, many of them event pages like the National Sawdust page that was flagged for copyright. This content isn't copyrighted. Please advise how to fix the issue so that the article can be approved.

OfficerMeowMeowFuzzyFace, please provide a link. I can't seem to find such a draft in your contribs. SITH (talk) 23:33, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
Here is a link to the page. Looks like it was deleted. What should be my next steps and how can I ensure that I meet all requirements so it isn't rejected again? Is it possible to just make this version live? https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:OfficerMeowMeowFuzzyFace/Salt_Cathedral_(band) — Preceding unsigned comment added by OfficerMeowMeowFuzzyFace (talkcontribs) 23:56, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
Hello, talk page stalker here. You have to understand two things.
First, the text that you are recycling was/is PR material, designed to increase interest rather than describe or explain. Meanwhile, this is an encyclopedia, whose purpose is to describe or explain. Regardless of its copyright status, PR material is unwelcome here.
Need an illustration? Try "a new and unique brand of well-crafted and culturally relevant pop music". What (if anything) does "culturally relevant" mean? Which reliable, disinterested authorities have called it new, unique, well-crafted or "culturally relevant", and precisely where did they call it so? (Promoters are of course not disinterested.)
Secondly, if copyright isn't claimed (or if somebody says that material isn't copyrighted), that doesn't mean that it's not copyrighted. For text not to be copyrighted, it must be in the public domain (in the legal sense of this term, not in any more popular sense). Since it's obvious that this text is pretty new, in order to be in the public domain it must be explicitly donated to the public domain. Wikipedia requires clear evidence of such donation. -- Hoary (talk) 04:58, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Permission to Resubmit

Hello! You deleted my previous article for Shelby J. (Musician). I have completely rewritten the article from the bottom up and would like the opportunity to resubmit once more. Can I please be granted approval to move forward with this? This is my first time, but I think I am understanding the rules more now. I appreciate your consideration. Princefriend (talk) 01:47, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Princefriend, as long as it isn't a copyright violation (which I assume was the deletion reason), sure! SITH (talk) 15:51, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Request on 05:32:31, 19 March 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Longjiangmei

Hello! I was trying to create a Meimeiwawa English Wiki page to accompany its already established zh-tw counterpart.

I understand that you're concerned about not enough secondary resources reporting on it directly, but a.) the Chinese page is already established and b.) a lot of the sources are not in English.

I have saved a new draft that mentions more citations, but they are in Chinese. Meimeiwawa is an established bilingual/multicultural company that exists in a country where there are very few "legitimate" English publications, so if you'll accept the Chinese sources that would be marvelous. If not, then I'll just hold off until more secondary English references come up.

Longjiangmei (talk) 05:32, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Longjiangmei, thank you for your input. The sources need not be in English, the significance of the coverage on the Chinese stage will be considered, however I machine-translate, so I will hold off on reviewing and leave it to another reviewer, preferably one who has a native or near-native understanding of Chinese. Many thanks, SITH (talk) 10:08, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Out of Bounds (2019 film) Draft: Edited Plot

Greetings SITH! Thanks for letting me know. I drafted and submitted my plot. Please take a look and approve at your earliest convenience. Thanks again!Nineminutesuntil (talk) 21:28, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Nineminutesuntil, I or another reviewer will be with your draft within the stated time period at AFC. Thanks, SITH (talk) 10:09, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Permission to Resubmit Draft: Hengameh (Singer)

Hello: I worked really hard on [[2]] and the page has been deleted due to alleged copyright infringement from two websites. Both websites have the same content, which is my (the artist at issue) biography. Both of these websites got these biographies from my former website which is no longer active. Would I still need to remove the content, despite me being the copyright owner? I put my biography out in the public domain for free use by anybody. Please let me know if this changes things or if I need to resubmit all together. If I do need to resubmit, can I please get the draft back in order to make the changes? SBavafa (talk) 07:42, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi SBavafa, if you publish on your current website a copyright waiver notice and tag the text on Wikipedia with a free license tag that should be fine. You'll need to contact the deleting administrator for a copy. May I also recommend you declare your conflict of interest on your userpage using Template:UserboxCOI? Thanks, SITH (talk) 10:11, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
