A tag has been placed on Hamptons International, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Filing Flunky (talk) 16:15, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising[edit]

If you work in the estate agency business, it might be hard for you to avoid saying things like "With more than 140 years of experience in the property market and a commitment to industry innovation and exceptional levels of customer service, Hamptons International today offers a wealth of award-winning services including UK and international Sales, Lettings, Property Management, Corporate Services, Residential Development, Development Land and Valuation, and Property Finance." Unfortunately, here we stick to neutral wording (see WP:NPOV) and things like that are regarded as advertising. I've not deleted the article, as I think there is potential if you can bring yourself to tone it down and introduce more of the history instead of plugging (or appearing to plug) the current services 'offered' (that's a killer word on Wikipedia...). If it goes, ask me to userfy it. We do use our own jargon here - that means restore it (if deleted) and move it to your userspace for working over. Get more references for the past if possible. Good luck... Peridon (talk) 16:36, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would be very wary of saying what you do on your userpage. It does give an alternative explanation for your wording, though. Please remember that this is an encyclopaedia and not a directory, or somewhere like LinkedIn or AboutUs. We go for factual articles not marketing - even carefully disguised marketing. Our patrollers (quite unknown to the public at large) go through almost everything that appears on Wikipedia. And someone else usually finds the rest...
