[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (SunNewsCanada) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.
There are two issues with this:
- It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
- Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.
Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. The article in question is Sun TV News Channel. Thank you.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
- What can I do now?
You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Unblock please!

I haven't used this account for promotion, spamming, publicity or anything else I was blocked for. I didn't create this article but was working, on behalf of my company, just to make sure it is accurate. Perhaps that counts as promotion, but it's really just ensuring accuracy. All these edits were totally NPOV - I changed the logo and the article title; nothing else. The fact is that this channel is very contentious and it's likely that this article will be vandalized, so I've created this username just so I can watch the article and combat any vandalism. Because I represent a journalistic organization, I will likely not make other edits lest people read into my edits and make accusations about my neutrality. But I am positive this page will be vandalized and I want to be ready.
The username was made just so it's totally transparent that I represent the company. I can change the username so it's not a rule violation and I didn't indicate the COI on my userpage yet because I was sure I was sure I'd be blocked but wanted to see if I could prove that this is a valid account and that I should be allowed to stay. I'd appreciate being unblocked since I haven't done anything wrong and should be allowed to watch this page and combat vandalism as long as my edits are fair. - I realized that some you may not be aware of how controversial this channel is and why I figure it's so likely that vandalism will occur. For further context, just google the term Fox News North and you'll see the kind of nasty debate that's currently happening about this station. SunNewsCanada (talk) 16:10, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Looking at your edit history, I agree that you have not used the account in a manner to promote the channel. Do make sure you're familiar with the conflict of interest policy so you don't run afoul of it in your future edits. I'm processing the unblock request right now; make sure you put the change of username request in as quickly as possible. —C.Fred (talk) 16:18, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Fred. I've put in the request and will state the COI on my user page once my name change is approved. SunNewsCanada (talk) 20:23, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Please do so now. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:35, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Oookay, Mike. Please calm down. There wasn't any point in stating a COI unless my name change was approved. SunSteve (talk) 16:56, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
