Issue[edit]

Hi - thanks for your feedback, but here's an admin issue I need your help on. For a couple of days, I've been getting "This user is blocked" notices when I've tried to edit. At first, I thought I was blocked, but then I looked at the user id and IP address to discover it wasn't me at all! When I tried a couple of times, the notice would not appear and I could edit.

My IP begins with 70/71 - this ip was 64, and usernames were weird. Sometimes I am signed out even as I've clicked on "remember me," and just sometimes another user ID is visible in my ownplace! I don't think my comp is being hacked (or other damage would have been done) - do you have any clue why this is happening? What do you recommend I do? This Fire Burns Always 13:24, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No my comp is not shared nor thru proxy. I'll clear the cache and let you know. Thanks! This Fire Burns Always 13:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please have a look at Satyajit Ray? It is in PR now. Shmitra (talk · contribs) is the main contributor. Your help requested[edit]

Hi Sundar,

You are probably busy, but can you please take a look at the recent edits and reverts that have been going on in the Carnatic music article? User:Bharatveer has been behaving quite unreasonably, resorting to blanket reverts to push his pov. User:Aadal has done some good work on this article, mainly to include contributions by Tamil culture towards the evolution of Carnatic music (without diminishing any other influences btw). Bharatveer simply reverts without any discussion. He has reverted this article seven times in the past 30 hours. I'd like to request your help in dealing with this editor. - Parthi 08:29, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you would look at Bharatveer's edit history, you'd notice the amount of reverts this user does during the course of a typical day! - Parthi 08:31, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Sundar for your prompt action.I know I went close to the edge there, but I have had past encounters with that user and he brings the worst in me. I will be careful in future.BTW, I was aware of Mr. Nagasamy's Tamil coins website and have cited from it extensively in a number of my articles. He has done some wonderful work. You should read his article about an old Tamil Brahmi inscription mentioning Adiyaman Neduman Anchi - Parthi 11:44, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

If someone created articles about the Saravana chain of shops, or Nalli or KPN travels (or the owners of the three) and they came up for AfD, which way will you vote ? Help needed once again...[edit]

Hi Sundar, I turn to you again for an answer to this -- Lost 14:10, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your Block[edit]

On my block message , you said "I did go over your recent contributions briefly and decided in favour of a block. I didn't block Parithi because 3RR fires only after the fourth revert and you seemed to be counting on his 3rd reversion while exceeding the limit yourself".

1. Can you pls tell me which of my "recent contributions" forced you to block me. 2.Your argument that user:venu62 did not violate 3RR is blatantly false. He reverted a minimum of 6 times (if you include inserting his same POV edits, which is practically a revert) .

According to WIKIPEDIA BLOCKING POLICY "Blocking is the means by which a Wikipedia administrator prevents a user account or IP address/range from editing Wikipedia. Blocks are preventive rather than punitive measures used to prevent damage to Wikipedia by dealing with vandalism and enforcing bans and other Wikipedia policies".

Here I was the one who was preventing the page from being vandalised. And just when i gave the FINAL WARNING to user: venu62 that he violated 3RR .He requested you to block me and You did that in an undue haste manner, unbecoming of an administrator.

From WIKIPEDIA BLOCKING POLICY "Sysops may block users for edit warring. As a rule of thumb, this happens when an editor reverts for the fourth time in a 24-hour period (see WP:3RR). Where multiple parties violate the rule, sysops will treat all sides equally."

here , you DID NOT treat all sides equally , and worse you did not even 'Warn' the other user. This shows how one sided your action was. Having said all these, I still would like to get the replies for my numbered questions.Bharatveer 03:53, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As you have asked : I am giving you the count of venu's reverts .

1.26th July 11.01 2. 26th July 11.18 3. 26th July 11.25 4. 27th July 06.33 You can see clearly the violation of 3 RR here and u chose to ignore that , thus abusing your power of a wiki admin. Can I know how you explain this double standards .Bharatveer 08:19, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

" Any case, I presume you meant [2], [3], [4], and [5]. I find that all of them pertain to different portions of the article. "

I did not understand what you mean by 'unsigned'.Yes I was asking you to see these edits. But these edits do not pertain to different portions as you suggest. The first three edits are regarding the removal of scripts (malayalam, telugu etc). The final revert was about when i gave the reference links to the most of the tags cited by the two Pov pushers. Bharatveer 09:47, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for making your "stance" very clear . But your allegation that I edited without logging on looks extremely childish.Bharatveer 09:58, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical Tamil Inactivity[edit]

I have tried to organise this project and created the categories and stub templates suggested by the project template, however there has been a proposal to merge Classical Tamil category with the Tamil literature category. I think it would be better if we make this project include all Tamil literature rather than just 'Classical Tamil literature' we could do better. Perhaps we should rename the project Wikiproject:Tamil literature.

Also I would like to see some more input from other editors in this project. - Parthi 22:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Manmohan Singh article[edit]

Dear Sundar. I had made some chnages in Manmohan Singh article a few days ago. Please see the changes I made. I have mainly removed POV from this article. Statements such as "architect of modern India", "most highly respected" etc has been liberally used. This sounds like a advert/propaganda to me. I also removed some highly speculatory content from this article, for instance "on being nominated from assam in future" etc.

Large amount of material was not related to his biography at all and was simply inserted to advance a political agenda.

Cathyh another wikipedia user, immediately reverted back my edits and smeared it as vandalism. While I explained why I made the changes on the talk page, this user did not first talk to me on the page but went straight ahead and reverted the article citing it as vandalism.

Instead of informing me, this user asked another user hariSingh to "keep an eye" on "POVremover's Vandalism". I urge you to look into this matter and would welcome your support. POVremover 01:51, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IP Block[edit]

Thanks for Thumbnailing. I did not know that it was such a simple procedure. And what is the actual problem over there, when Wikipedia servers say that I am browsing from Googleplex !!!! Doctor Bruno 13:59, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A bit confused. Wikipedia Servers said that My IP was 64.233.172.34 (which is the IP of Google as per WHOIS) So I thought that Wikipedia (servers) think I am from Google. Am I right (எனக்கு ரொம்பலாம் பற்றி கம்ப்யூட்டர் தெரியாது ) Doctor Bruno 14:24, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am using Google Web Accelerator as well as the toolbar. I think this is a serious bug. If Wikipedia servers think that I am typing from Google (and not from India), then may be that is the case with ANY Bulletin board or discussion forum (not limiting to wikipedia). Thus any one can post any rubbish even from their personal computer to various forums as the IP that is being recorded over there is not the IP of the particular User, but that of Google. I think this will be a big headache for Google soon. In case the cyber crime police want to look out for the person who uploaded Trisha's clip (hope you know that) to net, they will do a WHOIS and then perhaps file a chargesheet against Mr.Page
Also this is going to be a big nuisance to managers of discussion forums. I (as a forum admin) may ban a user who is posting rubbish and the ban is going to affect any one with Google Toolbar / Accelerator. On the other hand, if someone wants to create trouble, he can install the extension in one browser (say Firefox) and then post rubbish and behave as a nice boy with another User account with Opera. Doctor Bruno 16:10, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
May be I did not express my self clearly in the initial messages and that was the reason for this problem (actual problem) being missed by you Doctor Bruno 16:14, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In due course, the biggest problem will be faced by forum admins who will be banning one User and the ban will apply to every one with this google accelerator. And when such a thing happens, people will discontinue Google Accelerator (like what I have done today) and hence, Google will have a real headache. It all sums to the theory of natural selection. Let us wait and see. Doctor Bruno 12:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please fix this guy for good. I strongly suspect that this guy and User:Amarveda are the same. Sarvagnya 03:04, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see on the user's page(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:68.44.2.70}, he has been given warnings before using templates. you have yourself given him a final warning before. yes i understand that he has now started targeting only talk pages and not the article page, but then, even talk pages are meant for discussions about the article in question - not for random trolling. so please keep an eye on him. as i understand, vandalising talk pages is also a cognizable offence on WP. Sarvagnya 06:47, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll keep a watch on him. But keep in mind that User:WIN who constantly rants on AIT talk pages, Vkvora who uses Talk:India as a message board, etc., are not yet permanently blocked. But, if the trolling takes away editors' productive time so much, I'll slap a ban. Till then revert his edits if they're TOO off the topic. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 07:14, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sundar, greetings! Looks like you had given final warning to this person (68.44.2.70). a wide variety of[edit]

"A wide variety" is so vague that it's not worth including here. I'd recommend either removing it altogether or replacing it with more specific information, such as "minor roles in low-budget police and hospital TV dramas and cinema productions set in comtemporary Australian urban environments". "Wide variety" makes me suspicious that the writer just meant "many" or "several" or "numerous", in which case s/he might have specified the number, at least. After all, we do want precise summary information in a WP article. Let me know if this doesn't convince you, and I'll think of changing it. Tony 13:30, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's no direct mapping from Tamil suffixes and English prepositions, I can confidently say without knowing a word of Tamil. Some preposition choice, I suspect, is arbitrary in many languages—it just has to be learnt. As for "the", it's the bane of learning English, and I'm so glad that I don't have to do it as a non-native speaker. Very complex and subtle, yet basic. I wonder whether you think the websites for non-native speakers at the bottom of the 1a article are useful. One of them has a tutorial on "the" (several tutorials, in fact, of which I chose the best to link to). Tony 15:55, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I might later think about a section on what functional grammarians call "deictics", i.e., "a", "the" and nothing, before a nominal group (= noun). A lot of my second-language clients need one—scientists who are writing research grant applications. Tony 02:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion board for Tamil Nadu / Tamil Related issues[edit]

Is there a discussion board for Tamil Nadu / Tamil related issues. I have a doubt with regarding to naming conventions. I feel that the name of Paravars will be better than Paravas (the same criteria of "R" being added to all the caste names) as it is the spelling in the official List of government of Tamil Nadu. What is your opinion. I think we can raise this issue and arrive at a consensus Doctor Bruno 01:21, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do users have the liberty to remove formal warnings for vandalism (handed out by others using {subst:test} tags) as they please or are the warnings supposed to stay put on their talk page till they archive it or something. Sarvagnya 08:36, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

dear Sir, Im astinished about what u said.Plz let me tell u that it was sarvagnya who kind of had personal attack on me(plz see my user page).I just responded it.He is deliberately provoking me by adding biased and defamatory statement about Maharashtra and Belgaon struggle.

Yesterday our dispute was solved by Aksi_great and he told us NOT to ggo into edit wars and stop reverts for TWO days. This guy promptly logged out and manipulated the article suiting to his POV.Is this fair?I demand action against his acts.

With due respect to u,I shall in no way allow defamatory, one sided framing of Belgaum and Belgaum_district article.Sir I,did not start the trouble but responded in similar manner as the vandalisors.

I await justice!

Yo Sundar - Shreshth and I have been working to clean up the article and prepare it for a second FAC. We feel Tony's objections and other problems have been fixed. Please have a major look at this article - we need your green light. Rama's arrow 12:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sundar, do you think the article's ready for FAC? If so, please give the green light, and I'll set it up. If not, please tell me the problem areas. Thanks! --May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 04:49, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(mahawiki's comments)[edit]

What did i do?Whatever edits I made are backed by appropriate citations as suggested by Aksi.Plz see the history. I do agree that Sarvagnya thought I have had a personal attack on him.I regret it and I have apologised to him. Although perhaps I do deserve his warning, cant understand why shall u be angry on me?Plz see the history of Belgaum article.EACH CHANGE is backed by citation. Plz dont misunderstand me. mahawiki

Ok perhaps u were referring about my conversation with Sarvagnya.I wont talk with him hereafter.I think I should be entitled to edit Belgaum if I back it by proper citations same way as Sarvagnya.I definately cant act my cause. mahawiki 08:15, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His warning was justified as i have had some uncivil talks with him.His provocation, unnecessary bad mouthing against me at aksi's talk page deserves that warning. His edits contain sentences wisely framed against Maharashtra. My english isnt that good but I do understand when he tries to justify Karnataka's stand on very emotional Belgaon issue. I am new to wikipedia, but that doesnt mean he shud take advantage of it.

The same is with Dineshkambaadi.Have u seen his edits where he out Belgavi befor Belgaon with this explaination (Get used to this word,i.e Belgavi, as its being changed officially on 1st of Nov.).I cant express my anger in decent words here about his comments.Karnataka's rajotsav is celebrated as BLACK DAY and their Kannada impostion will never be accepted there.I stand by my comment to him.

If u want I shall remove that warning, which I put on Sarvagnya's page.In fact I will remove it just now.I am taking a step forward just because I dont want u ppl to think i am a vandalist.I am fighting for a cause which is very judicious and extremely emotional for me. I am not here to satisfy my ego.I will never allow anyone defame Maharashtra and Belgaon struggle.Pl note that courtesy and peace shall never succeed if its one-sided.Again to repeat,I will not allow any violation of NPOV in concerned articles or the language which directly or indirectly (or remotely) against Maharashtra. If u will keep a watch on those articles I shall feel secure and contented. If u cant correct the controversial statements,I'll have to. You ppl are free to ban me as I am sure what I am doing is right. In fact I have made my mind to fight until I am allowed to.I am completely aware that I can be banned anytime. When ppl have sacrificed their lives for this struggle its negligible what I am losing!

I will not 'talk' with Kannadi wikipedians.I shall only revert the article after notifying u what I feel is in bad taste for Maharashtra.I shall provide 'citations' for my every edit.Pl dont ask for more from me.If u have made me handicap its ur responsibilty to take care of NPOV of that article.

Jai Maharashtra mahawiki 11:02, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok.I will do so if such thing happens.I hope u shall also keep those articles in ur watchlist.I will act in a responsible way. mahawiki 12:22, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mahawiki[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Sarvagnya#The_troll

Note Mahawiki's warnings.

Also note his comments on the belgaum talk page. He is now claiming(for the first time) that me using the term 'Marathis' to refer to Maharashtrians or Marathi speakers is offensive!! And he is slapping me with all kinds of irrelevant warning templates. Please look into this. Sarvagnya 11:30, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As for the usage of 'Kannadi', its not just me, but AreJay also had taken exception to its usage and also had let mahawiki know about it. Sarvagnya 11:35, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also note, he has deleted all his earlier warnings and has not put them back in spite of being asked to do so. Sarvagnya 11:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sundar,
After ur advice,I have stopped all personal attacks.I had also removed the warning. But a user,is swearing my state and me unnecessarily and also posted a warning on my page.Since he defamed my state,Maharashtrians and its stand,I think it was right on my part when I too issued a similar warning.
I have given enough citations about how Marathi is one of the official language of Belgaon Mahanagarpalika but still this guy has not acknowledged it.He is been removing Marathi transliteration without any proper citations, which I think is a vandalism.I request u for ur help. Please see Belgaum and Belgaum:talk.

Mahawiki's slander[edit]

Hi Sundar,

I know you're busy and dont have time to officiate on the Belgaum page. But the reason I am coming back to you is because Mahawiki is referring to the Rajkumar, Kannada language pages and couple of other pages(which I believe you've watched for some time yourself or even edited) and blatantly slandering not just me but all Kannadiga editors of those pages and Kannadigas in general. I dont know what his motivation to do this might be, but my guess is that he is trying to influence opinion and create sympathy for his own case on that page. I request you to please warn him to desist from doing this and even make a statement on that page that everything Mahawiki has said there(which i've reproduced below, is pure slander and that it is mischevous.

Thus spake User:Mahawiki on that page,

".....Forget about it,my aunt is from Gulberga and she is Tulu.Tulu and Kannada are as close as Konkani and Marathi. But still is says the people there are not comfortable with """imposition of Kannada""". Coming to the point please see the deliberate mentions of Kannada on Solapur article. There is NO controversy like that of Belgaon there.Note how Kannada ppl are busy to show on that article that how Kannada culture is prevalent there.Alsp see Kaveri_dispute.This is one more controversy that Karnataka has with other states.Look there too,the Kannada ppl are busy pressing their POV.See Marathi and Tamil. There too this Kannad fanatics are busy proclaiming that Marathi lanugage and Marathi literature is too YOUNG than Kannad's.How Kannada has influenced Marathi, how Konakani is older than Marathi blah blah.
The Kannada and rajkumar page signifies how these Kannad fanatics are so insecure and have inferiority complex. On Kannada page,I am sure these guys must have 'exaggerated' the oldness and 'classical status' of the language.A user is always telling them that Kannada is derived from Tamil(although not verified completely but he cites example) but these guys in turn vandalise Tamil page.Dr.Rajkumar's mother-tongue is Telagu, but see these guy DONT allow this mention on that page.See the length of that page.He is surely a great actot, but he is obviously doesnt deserve so much space! This is what a call is Kannad marketing.See the user Dineshkannmbi's talk on this page itself.See some amma's statue(of bangalore)is mentioned in this article. Why should a Banglorean amma find a place here....."

Re:"hopeless"[edit]

Hi Sundar - I didn't mean to suggest that you sounded hopeless, but I didn't want Shreshth to get an impression that there was a lot wrong with the article. The three of us have done a lot of cleanup since July. Any relevant criticism now should only come in FAC. Rama's arrow 18:05, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the only way we can succeed in pressuring Shreshth to write-up Constitution of India is for him to do it during the Diwali break (Christmas is a bit far, but also an option). He's got a generally valid excuse, and I dare say he'll have some studying to do in the break itself. 12:36, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

B'lore meetup[edit]

Hi! Just noticed that Wikia doesn't mention B'lore anymore. I think the person who removed it assumed the event had already been conducted. Maybe we should put it back up.-- thunderboltz(Deepu) 10:28, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Tamil[edit]

Hi Sundar - a question regarding Tamil: How easy is it for a Tamil-speaking person to understand and pick up Kannada, Malayalam or Telegu? Do you find it easy to understand? Rama's arrow 17:21, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kaveri river[edit]

Dear Sundar,

Plz have a look on Kaveri_River.There's differences over a pic and a transliteration in Tamil language. Please check the talk page and do the corrections,if necessary. I tried to sort it out with User:Sarvagnya but seems he is still hurt due to his defeat on Belgaon page.He is assuming bad faith. He talked something irrelevent about Shivaji Maharaj and some Banglorean queen. He is not even allowing NPOV tag. mahawiki 07:31, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Check out again[edit]

Are u sure?See Kaveri_River, there's no Tamil transliteration.See the talk page.A user is quarreling even when enough citations are provided. He also has problem with a draught pic of TN. mahawiki 06:37, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
