Question from Dermatotoxicologist (14:04, 11 September 2024)
[edit]Hello, First, thank you for your help.
How do I enter a citation source? --Dermatotoxicologist (talk) 14:04, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dermatotoxicologist this is one of the core parts of Wikipedia editing! To learn how to insert citations, see this tutorial. Note unlike academic papers the citation comes after the sentence like this.[1] Not like this[2].
- By the way, I saw via your contributions page you added a long Books section to Howard Maibach. Are you Maibach? If so, you may want to consult Wikipedia:Autobiography, and you shouldn't edit the article directly and instead make edit requests. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 20:31, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Sungodtemple,
- I am new to this. It took many hours to compile the Books section, and now I see that someone has deleted it. May I ask you, as an edit request, to reinsert the books section? It has only books that are still in print and verifiable on Amazon. Thank you for reinserting the books section, if you are able to do so.
- Dermatotoxicologist Dermatotoxicologist (talk) 01:07, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dermatotoxicologist you can always look at and restore previous revisions through the 'View history' button at the top right. I removed it because Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. And are you Maibach? Your editing behavior seems to suggest so. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 17:44, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Just a brief note to say that user:Dermatotoxicologist's editing is now the subject of a discussion at the conflict of interest noticeboard, WP:COIN. Like you, I'm unconvinced that the material belongs in the Howard Maibach article. I've removed it at least until such time as the user answers the repeated attempts here and elsewhere for them to confirm whether or not they have a conflict of interest in relation to this article. If the user makes a further attempt to install the material I will take steps to have them blocked from Wikipedia.
- Also copying in user:Tacyarg, for info. Axad12 (talk) 12:02, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

I’m a solar energy expert and run a dedicated blog. I’m eager to make genuine contributions to Wikipedia. Could you suggest some straightforward ways I can start adding value? --Ahmed7673 (talk) 10:26, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ahmed7673 I recommend starting with the introductory edits at Special:Homepage - writing on Wikipedia is completely different than writing on a blog, with the important difference lying in verifiability and original research. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 15:14, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
Question from Se7enNationArmy2024 (15:51, 3 October 2024)
[edit]Hello Friend! I'm working to expand the types of editing I do to help improve articles. There's one I'm working on that doesn't have a reference list. I have a reference to add but I don't know how to add it. Could you help me with this? The article is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%E1%BA%A3 my reference is: https://saigoneer.com/saigon-food-culture/17793-ch%C3%A8,-b%C3%A1nh,-ch%E1%BA%A3,-nem-the-curious-lives-of-vietnam%E2%80%99s-regional-food-names --Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 15:51, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Se7enNationArmy2024 Try looking at Help:Referencing for beginners. Are there any specific troubles you are having? Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 18:47, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes thank you! I tried to follow the steps outlined but I haven't been able to get the {{reflist}} template to function properly. I don't understand how to make it add the reference automatically once you add the inline citation. I've messed around in a sandbox but I can't get it to work. What step am I missing? Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 20:35, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Se7enNationArmy2024, that's because you put <nowiki></nowiki> tags around the reflist. Remove the nowiki and it will work. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 21:47, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm trying to do it in visual edit mode - <nowiki> isn't something I'm typing in manually. How would I remove it? Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 22:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, my goodness I was over thinking it. I figured it out. Thank you for your help! Sorry to take up so much of your time! Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 23:13, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

- Update - I was able to bypass the template and just having {{reflist}} under the reference heading is working. It doesn't replace where I typed {{reflist}} - that's still visible. Doesn't feel right. Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 21:50, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

[edit]How can i put images in my wikipedia sandbox? --Dr. Reflex (talk) 04:38, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rootless Co$mopolitan (16:49, 8 October 2024)
[edit]Hi there, I keep coming across articles from people who seem to be using it for self promotion, is this a big issue on Wikipedia? Every time I flag for deletion they seem to be reverted --Rootless Co$mopolitan (talk) 16:49, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Rootless Co$mopolitan, if an article is purely self-promotion and removal of the ads would leave no substantial content, then the article can be speedy deleted under criterion G11. However, most articles do not fall under this category. An article being promotional itself is not a good reason for deletion; instead, the article should be rewritten from a neutral point of view.
- Based on your public contributions page I see you have proposed deletion for Jess Steele and Jelena Đurović. There are actually multiple deletion processes; one is speedy deletion I mentioned above for trivial cases, the second is Proposed deletion, and the last is Articles for Deletion. Essentially, if a Proposed Deletion is objected to for any reason, then, if you still believe the article is worthy of deletion, it should be taken to Articles for Deletion.
- Right now, I would avoid getting involved in deletion process because it is complicated and involves the notion of notability which may be hard to understand. I would recommend you simply copyedit for now; if another editor comes along, they can also nominate it for deletion.
- If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 22:03, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from 3-Legged OMoth (03:46, 9 October 2024)
[edit]Hello! My name is Bryan. I just noticed that I had been assigned a mentor. So…
I wanted to ask for any guidance you might be able to provide when it comes to starting down the path of becoming a helpful contributor/editor. Why and how did you get started? Do you use any tools (editors, etc.) that help with what you do? Any thing else that comes to mind would be appreciated as well.
Thank you in advance. --3-Legged OMoth (talk) 03:46, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- 3-Legged OMoth This is an extremely general question so I cannot give you good advice. There are many paths to go down when editing Wikipedia, such as copyediting, Good and Featured article creation, Did You Know, etc. I recommend you start with edits suggested to you at your newcomer homepage, then you will learn more about the environment here and choose what seems fun. Question from Steamwraith (11:07, 10 October 2024)
[edit]Hello! I am currently trying to get a new article approved. It began as a translation of an article from Swedish Wikipedia, but has since outgrown the original. Do you have pointers for me so that I can get it approved? Thanks! Here is the draft: Draft:figgehn. --Steamwraith (talk) 11:07, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Steamwraith, the declining reviewer mentioned that the draft didn't have sufficient reliable sources, so you should go through your references list and rework/remove any references and associated content supported by unreliable sources. This includes most social media, since they are self-published sources.
- Also note that notability on one language Wikipedia doesn't automatically grant notability on another language Wikipedia, since different Wikipediae have different quality standards and notability processes. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 20:36, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Sunilkathasaritasagar (12:50, 2 November 2024)
[edit]Hi, Sungod. Thanks for turning out as Metor here. I would like to create a page on Guru Atmananda, a spiritual and wellness guru, an MBBS who for two decades has grown a small dedicated following among urban citizens, mainly in Delhi and Mumbai.
I have some material about Guru Atmananda (real name Prakash C) that can form the published links as defined in Wiki guide on creating pages.
Question- 1.I wish to start with a three para page on Guru Atmanada 2. Will keep adding info on it later, after a few days 3. where do I start 4. I have exactly three indepedent links on which his info can be sources- an magazine article, his website and three youtube channel. --Sunilkathasaritasagar (talk) 12:50, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sunilkathasaritasagar You can start by creating a draft to slowly embellish the article. Note that his website is not independent, a YouTube channel is generally not reliable, and a magazine article may or may not work (depending on which magazine, etc.). Make sure you have 2-3 high quality sources which are independent, reliable, and in-depth to establish notability for your subject. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 03:55, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Dan from hu (08:39, 8 November 2024)
[edit]Hi Sungod! I'm working on an article about a book. Could you point out what needs improving? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dan_from_hu/sandbox Thank you in advance. --Dan from hu (talk) 08:39, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Dan from hu the most important thing when writing an article, especially as a newcomer, is making sure the subject is notable. To this end, references should be independent, reliable, and in-depth. It appears both of the references you have cited are not independent, so you should look for 2-3 sources that pass the three guidelines I mentioned. Once you have those, you can start thinking about how your article will be written. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 15:19, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the feedback! Have a nice day! Dan from hu (talk) 08:27, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Mulumba2024 (08:10, 15 November 2024)
[edit]Hi, I hope this message finds you well. My name is Mulumba Nasiifu, and I’ve been working on editing the biography for John Teira on Wikipedia. I’ve been assigned as your mentee, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with you.
I would appreciate your guidance in addressing some of the comments and suggestions made regarding the article. As this is my first time navigating these processes, I look forward to learning from your expertise and ensuring that the biography meets Wikipedia’s standards.
I would appreciate to provide me with some insights on how to perfectly address the issues in this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Teira --Mulumba2024 (talk) 08:10, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from MileenaG on Talk:Kenite hypothesis (15:03, 17 November 2024)
[edit]I’ve never edited a wiki but want an obvious error fixed. The page I was on says “Critical examination of the Book of Genesis narrative of Moses meeting Jethro…” but obviously Moses is not mentioned in the book of Genesis (rather it should say Exodus). I keep running into obvious errors like these but no one seems to be flagging or fixing them so I thought maybe I should learn how to help. Can you teach me how to bring an editor’s attention to an error and maybe even how to edit them myself? Thank you. --MileenaG (talk) 15:03, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- MileenaG You can always use the associated talk page or a noticeboard of a relevant WikiProject to bring attention to any problems in an article. To correct such an error yourself, just edit the page directly, making sure to add a citation where needed. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 16:05, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
