IP block

[edit]

I have an account with Wikipedia and I have downloaded the app. For some weird reason. When I enter the Tearoom page in order to ask a question. A pop up appeared and said I was given two ip blocks, one due to expire in October of this year and the other in September of this year. I only started editing on Wikipedia yesterday, I created my account yesterday and as far I can recall I never use the edit tool to intentionally damage Wikipedia. Can I get an unblock please, thank you. Supelrand (talk) 20:19, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When I typed the word 'Tearoom' I mean the Teahouse. Supelrand (talk) 20:45, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Presumably your IP address is subject to partial blocks on editing at the Teahouse. If so, it will be because of abusive editing in the past by someone editing from the same IP address range as you, very likely nothing to do with anything you have done. I will look into it if you let me know what IP address is affected, and preferably also the exact wording of the notices you see when you try to edit. If you don't wish to make information such as your IP address public you may send it to me confidentially by email. JBW (talk) 09:52, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JBW OK thanks, I shall get the information as soon as possible Supelrand (talk) 19:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JBW IP address is : 148.252.128.0/20
Blocked by Nthep for disruptive editing
IP address is : 148.252.140.0/24
Blocked by Yamla for reason below ad I quote from the page
'This network range has been used improperly by someone in order to disrupt Wikipedia. Therefore it has been blocked to prevent further incidents'
That is the information I have, thanks for helping me out. Supelrand (talk) 19:47, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That block is "anon-only", so it should not affect you if you are logged into your account when you edit. Also it is a general block, not one restricted to editing the Teahouse, so it should have no more effect on editing there than it has on any other page. Were you trying to edit at the Teahouse without being logged into your account? Try again, making sure you are logged in, and if you still can't then let me know. JBW (talk) 20:14, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JBW I have checked I am logged in and I am logged in. The block is only on the Tearoom, I went to edit an article and I didn't get the block, editing worked fine. Thanks from Supelrand Supelrand (talk) 02:20, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm afraid I don 't know what can be causing the problem then. It is possible that a CheckUser may be able to help. I'm not at all confident of that, but it's worth a try, so Yamla, can you look at this? The one other thing that I can think of is asking at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). JBW (talk) 11:05, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JBW Thank you for all your help, I will ask the Village Pump if it doesn't get resolved soon Supelrand (talk) 11:39, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Neither of those blocks would affect Supelrand while they are signed in. WP:CHECKUSER data shows no other blocks involved here. Note that there's a particularly abusive WP:LTA editor operating from this larger IP address range, along with some other prolific sockpuppeteers so unfortunately, neither range block is likely to be lifted any time soon. I do not mean to imply Supelrand is related to any of those abusive users. I saw nothing in the technical data to indicate that. --Yamla (talk) 11:51, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yamla Thank you for your best efforts Yamla, I will just wait it out. Thanks to you and JBW for assisting me the best you could. This is why I love Wikipedia. Supelrand Supelrand (talk) 13:59, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
