2013–14 Melbourne Heart "FC" season

I understand your reasoning for moving the page back to the title you did but what about consistency with overall pages on wikipedia like 2013–14 Arsenal F.C. season or 2013 Toronto FC season. It just makes no sense not to have the FC mentioned as that is their name, Melbourne Heart FC. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 15:31, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

If it's an issue of consistency, I would be happy to help move the reast of A-League teams' season pages. I've always though it strange that that A-League team's season article don't have an FC in the title when every other team in other leagues do. What about consistency?--2nyte (talk) 15:49, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Personally I don't mind too much one way or another, though I do find the FC addition in team names and such usually redundant because they are mostly referred to without the FC addition, and then there are always long and annoying wikilinks in articles (such as Melbourne Heart). Anyways, it should consistent for all of the A-League teams and updated in the templates, so that they will be bolded.
Maybe we should bring this up for more comments at the task force's talk page? --SuperJew (talk) 16:04, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
I would be fine with that. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 16:34, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Copied. Let's continue any talks there --SuperJew (talk) 16:40, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Missed Penalties

Missed Penalties are a part of any football match. If a foul is committed inside the penalty area, a penalty kick is awarded. If a foul is deemed as stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity or reckless enough, a red card can be given to the offending player. If that penalty is missed, then it shows that a penalty kick wasn't converted, and should then be noted in the match info box, just as if a penalty was converted. My point is that a penalty is a standout point in a game and should be recorded regardless of if it is scored or not.

I'd also like to point out that it is noted both in the commentary and lineup in the A-League match centre, used as a summary in the match info box: Lineup & Commentary

Also, it has its own wiki markup for the match info box: Here, Here & Here

Lastly, this is what this produces: {{penmiss}} = soccer ball with red X

Protenpinner (talk) 12:33, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

First of all, I think we have had this discussion in the past. As you pointed out missed penalties are noted in the commentary and lineup in the A-League match centre, and also it has its own wiki markup. On the other hand so do yellow cards and substitutions, yet we don't mark those in the concise footballbox. Things such as those are only marked in the extended footballboxes (such as final pages), while the concise only notes the barest minimum of the game goals and red cards (though there are also pages which don't mark the red cards, such as UEFA Champions League and Europa League). That is the consensus that exists today on Wikipedia.
--SuperJew (talk) 14:53, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
We haven't had this conversation before. In your replies when you've made the edit you state "WE do not count missed penalties" yet there is no we, only you. There is also no consensus that I'm aware of that repress the use of "no missed penalties in match info box". There is no denying they're a part of the game and should be used in the info box. If a player is sent off because they give away a penalty and the penalty is missed, it only adds confusion to why the player was sent off. Confusion is the complete opposite of what is desired on Wikipedia. Saying "On the other hand so do yellow cards and substitutions, yet we don't mark those in the concise footballbox" is not entirely true in this point as they are used in football infoboxes, they just haven't been added (which I'd be more than happy to do). Continuously reverting the page to having no use of missed penalties only adds confusion for the reader. Protenpinner (talk) 15:27, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Players can be sent out of the game at any point on the pitch and not necessarily in the penalty box. Also a foul awarding a penalty will not always be red, it can be yellow too. The are not correlated necessarily, and thus I do not understand how there would be confusion. I would appreciate if you could point me to a page which notes in a concise footballbox penalties missed in-game. --SuperJew (talk) 15:32, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
And as I said yellow cards and substitutions are only used in extended footballboxes. --SuperJew (talk) 15:33, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Yes, players can receive a yellow for fouls inside the penalty area. What I wrote in my opening post is " If a foul is deemed as stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity or reckless enough, a red card can be given to the offending player". That states that it's not a red every time. As for confusion, it may not be confusing for you but you're not the only one reading the page. For all you know a kid could be and can't put 2 and 2 together or a mentally challenge fan could be. The more information about a match IS better, regardless of whether it's a World Cup final or a English League 2 match. My point being missed penalties in match infoboxes aren't mutually exclusive to European comps and Finals matches.
Also, as you wrote, you wanted me to point out pages that also have missed penalties, here are plenty:
2013–14 Aston Villa F.C. season:
EPL: Round 1 (August), Round 5 (September), Round 9 (October)
2013–14 Arsenal F.C. season:
Pre Season: Arsenal 2 – 2 Napoli (Emirates Cup)
EPL: Round 1 (October)
Champions League: Round 5 Groupstage (November)
2013–14 S.S.C. Napoli season:
Pre Season: Emirates Cup vs Arsenal, 1-0 loss to Cesena
Serie A: Round 4 (September), Round 16 (December)
2013–14 UD Almería season:
La Liga: Round 16 (December)
2013–14 Athletic Bilbao season:
La Liga: Round 6 (September), Round 10 (October), Round 16 (December)
2013–14 FC Barcelona season
Supercopa: Second leg
La Liga: Round 5 (September), Round 18 (January)
Champions League: Group stage Round 1
As you can see, it has clearly been used throughout the world and that's only just this season. Obviously it would take a really really long time to go through every page but it proves my point. Also, extended boxes aren't mutually exclusive to cups and finals either. Lastly, it shouldn't matter that an A-League team's season page has an extended infobox. If anything, as I sad before, it is more helpful for the reader of the page. Protenpinner (talk) 16:30, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
As SuperJew pointed out, there is not always a correlation between a foul awarded in penalty area and a player receiving a red or yellow card; a player does not have to receive any card. Further a free kick can be awarded anywhere on the field and a goal can directly result, also an indirect free kick in penalty area may also result in a goal, or what about a penalty miss which is scored on the rebound? Should there examples also be specified in the footballbox. On the other hand in the table on 2013–14 A-League#Leading goalscorers, "Goal scored from penalty kick" and "Two goals scored from penalty kick" is specified, yet that information is not shown anywhere in the article. Why specify a goal from a penalty kick in one section (table) and not the other (footballbox).--2nyte (talk) 00:48, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
If you look at both the table and the corresponding match in which the penalties scored are listed, they are both on the article page. Sydney 2-5 Brisbane Roar is the main point there. Protenpinner (talk) 12:45, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Height

You might like to make your views known at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Height_templates or Talk:Human_height#Why_is_height_being_expressed_in_metres.3F. Besides, Wikipedia:Verifiability will trump any WikiProject norms (not that they even insist on anything in this case) every time.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 07:39, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

It doesn't matter in what format the source presents the information, if the data is the same. --SuperJew (talk) 07:45, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
I'm glad you think it doesn't matter. I'll be formatting it to match reliable sources and consensus, and I trust it won't be reverted anymore.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 07:49, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Since it doesn't matter it is preferable that there is consistincy in the format through Wikipedia. --SuperJew (talk) 07:51, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
But it does matter. See WP:V and WP:ENGVAR (plus everything else I've already linked to). Your preference for "consistency" must take a back seat.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 07:54, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Why do you think WP:V applies? The user can easily verify what the height is despite the different format, because it is the same data. The change in format does not change the information. and WP:ENGVAR has nothing to do with it as it is not a national language variety, but a difference in format. --SuperJew (talk) 07:57, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Clearly WP:V applies because Football Federation Australia, a high-quality source, uses centimetres (as does Japan Football Association, www.canadasoccer.com, etc.) and that's where the data is coming from. If you read the first paragraph of WP:ENGVAR you would know it covers formatting as well. In Australia centimetres are the norm (see the official websites of the Australian Football League, Australian Rugby Union, National Rugby League, Cricket Australia, Netball Australia, etc.) But you've already said it doesn't matter to you, so what's the problem?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 08:08, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Yellow Cards/ Constant reverting of edits

When a player receives a red card for a second yellow card, under FIFA laws of the game, if a foul is deemed to only be a yellow card offence for the second yellow, then the referee MUST show the second yellow before showing the red card. That is why I have put it as {{sent off|2|11|40}}. The 2 next to the "|" after the sent off denotes that the player got the 2 yellow cards equaling the red card. Using ultimatealeague.com is not a reliable source when they fail to acknowledge the rules of the game in displaying the second yellow card as only the 1 yellow card. As you can see on the A-Leagues official match centre, they do acknowledge the second yellow card, per FIFA rules of the game. Protenpinner (talk) 13:52, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Also, for constantly undoing edits, some even if they are factually right and/or beneficial to the page, you have been reported for disruptive editing.

You're source also marks down the second time with only one yellow card (Yellow card x' Red card y'), and not two yellow cards (Yellow card x' Yellow-red card y'). You seem to be a bit confused because they also mark the yellow cards which we don't in the short infoboxes, therefore you see there 2 yellow cards + 1 red, while here you don't. Because you also don't see the people who get 1 yellow card.
Also, grow up. If you're reporting disruptive editing you can report yourself. In all this year, every time you didn't agree with something you engaged in edit warring and kept some of it up for a long time, not listening to other people. The fact that you think every single edit you do is factually right and/or beneficial to the page does not make it true. Please grow up.
--SuperJew (talk) 13:58, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
I'm definitely not confused. The reason for my source not showing it that way is because the time where they put (Yellow card x' Red card y') IS the time of the second yellow card. That second yellow in turn becomes the red card for 2 yellow cards therefore they have showed the time of each of the two yellow cards which by FIFA rules (which you seemed to have bypassed in my OP) denotes that it must be shown like this: Yellow card x' Yellow-red card y' . I'm not the one that made the rules of the game, I'm just showing you how they are denoted and implemented therefore my edit you keep reverting is fact. If you still don't believe me, go read the rulebook of the game on FIFA's website for it to tell you exactly what I am. I've read it already
Also, you haven't been reported. I jumped the gun because I figured I should converse with you about the subject. Apologies for that. I acknowledge that I have reverted edits before but a half of them were vandalism, trolling etc. Also what you fail to realise is that the edits done by other users that are inline with the rules of the game haven't been reverted so telling me to grow up without checking your facts is poor form. It isn't fact that you think that I think my edits are factually right, far from it. The things I think are factually correct are down to what is put down in the source used as having the correct info of what transpired during the game. It being beneficial is using that to place in the infoboxes so that the reader knows what happened in the match, whether it be a missed penalty, a yellow card, red card, goal etc etc without having to trawl the internet to find what happened. That is the whole idea of wikipedia. I'm just trying to make the page more knowledgeable and have more info for people know about the subject. Protenpinner (talk) 14:32, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Just thought I would add that Yellow card x' Red card y' signifies that the second card was a direct red card, which can be given straight even if the player had a yellow card if the foul is deemed dangerous enough. If it's only a yellow for a second card, then it is Yellow card x' Yellow-red card y' which then turns into the red card for two yellows. Protenpinner (talk) 13:27, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
So nothing?? It is FIFA law that 2 yellows me signified therefore it should be the way I had it. If you can provide a link to the "general consensus" on Wikipedia that proves your point, I'd love to see it. Protenpinner (talk) 09:53, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

A-League Match Order

IMO, listing rescheduled matches by rounds makes zero sense, surely chronological order is more logical? Is this a WP:FOOTY/WP:FIA/P:A-L standard? If so, and I'm not trying to be a smart arse, can you please link me to it? Ck786 (talk) 07:52, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

I don't remember where, but we have had a discussion about this. Most of the statistics (such as goalscorers, positions by round and such) are done by the round number. Also, the A-League seson page and also websites such as ultimatealeague.com list games by rounds and not always chronological order. --SuperJew (talk) 07:57, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
I agree that most stats and so forth should remain by round, that makes sense. I'm just suggesting that when you are looking at a list of results, it seems logical to look at it in chronological order. A-League and Ultimate A-League websites have fixtures and results split into rounds by default. The key stat that is badly skewed by rescheduled fixtures is the positions by round stats, ie. The only reason MV are in 4th and not 7th right now is because they have an extra 3 points they won three weeks ago. This also affects SFC, PG & NUJ league positions by round. See what I'm saying? If we are going by round, not chronological, MV shouldn't be credited with those 3 points and +2 GD (as far as positions per round is concerned) until everyone has played Round 19. Thoughts? Ck786 (talk) 08:33, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
Obviously stuff gets skewed when rounds are rescheduled. What we have to do is try to make it understood to the user what is going on. See the way we did it in 2013–14 Central Coast Mariners FC season. --SuperJew (talk) 08:38, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) It is not an easy way to solve this with both pro's and cons. For the "results by round" in Premier League (England)club season articles we now use Statto.com that lists the team position at the end of the day that the team played. The section has also been renamed to "results by matchday". It is for example used as 2013–14 West Bromwich Albion F.C. season#Results by matchday with this statto link. This makes this section well sourced instead of refering to "matches section" as a source, which say nothing about position. QED237 (talk) 14:08, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
I think what Qed237 posted WRT results by matchday makes more sense and is more reflective of what actually happened in the season ie. it allows for rescheduled results and is indicative of what positions were after a given week of play. Either, it needs to be changed to a "matchday" table and rescheduled fixtures are included as they are played OR it needs to be changed to a proper "positions by round" and sourced from Ultimate A-League who break down the table by actual round and the postponed results are not included until the round they are played in. EDIT: FWIW, the 2013–14 A-League#Positions by round table is more of a "positions by matchday" as there are no entries for Matchday 19 for MV or WSW indicating their progress will stagnate on the matchday of their postponed match. Thus it stands to reasoning that team "position by round/matchday" tables should reflect this. Ck786 (talk) 21:01, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Hey there. First of all I wanted to start by saying good job on all the edits you do for the A-League season articles - it must be fairly tiring to maintain that many pages so frequently but you always seem to have it covered. Good job.

Secondly, I wanted to say that I have recently taken an interest in Melbourne Heart, and as I do a lot of work on the Manchester City season articles I saw a few opportunities to add some stuff to the Heart's season article which it presently does not have, but I think could really contribute. I respect the work you've done with the A-League articles though, and I'm not sure if you hold these articles to some sort of A-League standard for lay-out which I am not aware of, so I wanted to reassure you of the following - firstly, that if you don't think they contribute to the article, then since you've been the one putting the work in here, I will not contest you reverting my edits; secondly, and particularly for the playing stats, if it feels like too much work for you to maintain these as well, I will be keeping an eye on the Heart's season article myself so am perfectly happy to update the statistics where necessary.

Anyway, just didn't want you to feel like I was trying to cut you out of the loop here. Please let me know your feelings on the matter - I have a day off today (and I'm UK-based, so not following the same time schedule as you) so I plan on making these additions straight away; please feel free to check them out and let me know what you think. Falastur2 Talk 13:50, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the friendly words and the interest to help. As you said, it is time consuming to maintain these articles. It would be wonderful having another hand(s) helping maintain the page, and I also feel this is very much the point of this project - a communal effort to make the best. Also, in a few months I will probably have less time than in the past, and therefore another reason that you're helping out would be greatly appreciated. And BTW, I'm Israel-based, so our time schedule isn't so different :)
Cheers! --SuperJew (talk) 14:02, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Newcastle Jets

Hey, sorry about changing the Jets template. I didnt view it before submitting and didnt realise the border didnt come out. The red and blue is very hard to see on each other - hence i added the gold (colour they use for shirt numbers, previous "main" colour). I really think it should be a blue background with gold font and a red border, something like this

It seems you are passionate about the colours for Newcastle so I'll let you decide, but please let me know you thoughts (the blue on red really is hard to read...) Eccy89 (talk) 10:28, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

I just didn't understand the reason for the change. If you would make it similar to this shirt's colors (gold on blue with red border). I think it would be good. and please make it consistent with Template:Newcastle Jets FC. --SuperJew (talk) 18:56, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

I noticed you reverted the goal time for the Barbarouses goal in the Melbourne Victory v Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors game. I did see the match report, however the video I linked in my undo comment clearly shows the goal being scored in the 81st minute. I'm aware that we discussed the authoritative status of match reports previously; however if there is footage from the host broadcaster that shows the time that the goal was scored then that should take precedence. For another example, see the first goal from the R21 Melbourne derby - the match report indicated the first goal was scored in the 8th minute, however the video shows that it was scored in the 9th. I did. Please don't do it stat by stat. As you can see it is confusing and causes editing conflicts. There is no reason to get your edit count up in this meaningless way. --SuperJew (talk) 13:11, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok I will take that on board and as you have just pointed it is meaningless so I will stop but regardless I go from Sam Dwyer who was the player was the lowest number to Jack Frost(footballer) who has the highest and I could have been still Dayne Beams and you could have just begun editing Jamie Elliot for instance so how are we going to stop these conflicts

Micro editing

I have stopped. I change the games and goals and stats end at once? That's not going to hide a inappropriate edit. I'm only doing two more edits than you are so there's not difference really. And I didn't a couple of extra edits on Jarrod Witts, Sam Dwyer and Brent Macaffer because I legit thought it round 8 because of the bye round. So I've stopped doing what you first told me to do, which was adding 1 letter than stopping and you also asked me to put something in the summary box.

Please leave your reply on my talk page as I will probably not see it here

Hi I don't know how to use sandbox and also ok I will do that and sorry for deleting those comments but I was annoyed and I couldn't quite understand why everyone was saying this stuff but now I understand and will do with the collingwood players stats.

Thanks JackETC (talk) 08:09, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Great. Glad we're clear :) --SuperJew (talk) 08:56, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi I've worked out how to use the sandbox page. I've also created a template in recent weeks that is all the AFL Players and I micro edit on that. I know that you think that your edit count is pointless but I just wanna get in the top 10000 so yeah that's why I edit my user page. Thanks

Adrian Madaschi and Perth SC

Why are you deleting information from the infobox about Adrian playing for Perth SC? Not cool. I have changed that back. Before you delete stuff please investigate to verify. Refrences can be easily found via google [1], [2].Simione001 (talk) 07:10, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Sorry my bad. Thanks for fixing it. --SuperJew (talk) 09:34, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

James Rodriguez

As I mentioned if we follow just the small part of line ups, it becomes a whole mess. I understand that James Rodriguez as many players likes to use a different name in their shirt (probably because he prefers to see it printed like like) or like J. Hernández that uses Chicharito when he plays for clubs. That doesn't mean will list him as Chicharito. I see this situation as way different than Memphis Depay for example that has an specific written already sourced to why he doesn't use his last name and why everything needs to be referred as Memphis. If it was the same situation with James, than it would be ok. But we're listing them by last names as that's the way these countries works. The big difference is Brazil (they're usually already listed by their name, rarely using surnames) and sometimes Portugal have players that fit the same situation. I'm not trying to create an edit war here, so if you feel it's needed to change that, you'd have to point it out on a talk page and if we did that, like I mentioned, we'd have "Teo", "Jackson M.", "C. Zuñiga", "Aguilar T."... Hell, imagine the Costa Rica players: Joel Campbell has Campbell J. on his shirt (the same goes for the other players). See what I'm trying to tell you? Thanks. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 16:10, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

I don't think it's a Brazilian thing exclusively, but rather a Latino thing, therefore any players from Spain, Portugal or South America who are known by a certain name, then that name should be used. --SuperJew (talk) 16:14, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

'Friendlies' trolling on Australian soccer seasons 2015 article

As you are more experienced than me in regards to a potential process to make our 'mate' User:181.136.243.151 stop posting rubbish on the 2015 Australia national soccer team season article, can you please initiate something ? Alternatively, that article probably doesnt have a lot of traffic at the moment, and probably won't for a couple of months at least. Maybe the alternative is just to leeave the site alone and hope he/she loses interest. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:26, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

He's back, with a match against Bolivia in Perth - another hypothetical friendly (maybe that's to appease me as I'm from there and I'd love a game in Perth !!). I suggest we ignore this trolling for a week, and see if he/she loses interest - I'm guessing he/she got a two week block. If it continues maybe we can see if a longer block can be given effect to !! . 175.38.128.91 (talk) 13:15, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Moving categories

Hi, I see you moved a large number of categories, including Category:La Liga players. Please list such categories at WP:CFDS in future (or WP:CFD if it's not a speedy case). Then, CFD admins will delete the old page, update backlinks, and any other housekeeping that is needed.

If you know this already and were just experimenting with a new facility, don't mind me! Thanks -– R'n'B (call me Russ) 22:10, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

No, I actually didn't know that and I didn't manage to find a category moving tool, I guess I was supposing a bot would take care of it. Thanks Russ! --SuperJew (talk) 06:04, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Removing links after AFD

I must respectfully disagree for a number of reasons. First, per WP:RED we should only have red-links to subjects that are actually notable, but don't have articles yet. In fact, the guideline explicitly says that red links to deleted articles should be removed. And there's a good reason for this. Red links to non-notable subjects encourage the creation of inappropriate articles. Second, the custom you claim is by no means universally accepted. For example, every template in Category:German Bundesliga squad templates lists non-notable players in plain text. (Please don't take this as an invitation to change this.) Finally, I reject your underlying reasoning. In cases where a player cannot be uniquely identified by their last name and their club, their first initial is generally listed both in squad and match templates. In the interest of cooperation, I will not undo your reversions of my edits, but don't expect me to change my editing patters. Sir Sputnik (talk) 18:26, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Re: a case for afd?

At first glance, probably. The Burmese top flight is fully pro, so if he's made his club level debut, then that's that, but otherwise the article should probably go. Sir Sputnik (talk) 16:42, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Keogh hattrick/Donachie OG

Both the official report and match centre summary both list it as a Donachie own goal. The journalist report with the twitter post seems to be slightly Perth Glory biased so the credibility of the post can be questionable. I think it should be left as an OG until the MRP come out in the media with the actual ruling, which will likely happen considering the cloudiness of the scorer. Protenpinner (talk) 09:48, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Did you see the goal? It was a deflection which was on target anyway, therefore not an own goal. The referee's report holds more than whatever else you're going by --SuperJew (talk) 09:56, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
The FFA report has also been updated to a hat-trick by Keogh. --SuperJew (talk) 10:53, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Albert Riera

Re Albert Riera: have you seen WP:NCSP?

Mainly:

"It is strongly discouraged to add a middle name, initial, "Jr.", etc., or to use the birth name rather than the nickname (or vice-versa), merely for disambiguation purposes."

and

"WP:NCSP#Association football (soccer)

Macosal (talk) 23:51, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

it is not a middle name, it's a second family name. Also his player profile on Wellington Phoenix's official page is A. R. Vidal. Also on soccerway both family names are mentioned. --SuperJew (talk) 04:02, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
I know it's a second family name - read the quote as "It is strongly discouraged... to use the birth name rather than the nickname... merely for disambiguation purposes" (it's substantially the same thing anyway). Re Vidal, I think from experience (and a quick google) that Riera is far more commonly used than "Riera Vidal" (relevant to WP:COMMONNAME). We could always just make a requested move and see what others think. Macosal (talk) 05:58, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
See also WP:NC#Multiple and changed surnames – patronymics and matronymics: "Adding or subtracting a second last name or a patronymic artificially, as a disambiguation aid, is rarely advised." Macosal (talk) 06:39, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Obviously a google search would show that, since there is another player named Albert Riera --SuperJew (talk) 21:25, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
I am aware of that and accounted for that in my searching:
"Albert Riera" ("Wellington Phoenix" OR "Auckland City") -Vidal (ie only results which mention Albert Riera and either Wellington Phoenix or Auckland City, and don't mention Vidal) gives 18,500 results.
"Albert Riera Vidal" gives 2,750 results. Macosal (talk) 22:06, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
I have now requested a move on the relevant talk page. Macosal (talk) 23:51, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Ivan Franjic

Hi there, regarding the recent edits to Ivan Franjic's page, and the info box. The A-League finals are a playoff tournament, similar to the Football League play-offs, and as such shouldn't be quoted in a players total league appearances. Also the 113 appearances includes AFC Champions League appearance, so is incorrect.

No, they are not similar to the Football League play-offs, since they are not play-offs, they are a finals series games. About the appearances you are right, it is supposed to be 115 (11), there is a mistake in the table --SuperJew (talk) 14:57, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Not according the the Finals Series Sub section The A-League finals series is an end-of-season play-off tournament involving the highest-placed teams at the end of the regular season. Also you missed my point regarding the Champions League appearances, you are including them in your total, when they shouldn't be included either.--Dave logic (talk) 15:10, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
A play-offs series is for qualifying. Since no one qualifies for anything in the A-League finals series, it is not a play-off tournament. I didn't include the Champions League appearances, I merely corrected the league appearances, which were wrong --SuperJew (talk) 15:16, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
If I may, the term "play-offs" is used in many English-speaking countries to refer to the elimination rounds leading up to the final championship game or series, e.g. Stanley Cup Playoffs, as well as for a qualification tournament or game. The term "play-in" may also be used, e.g. the first round games of the NCAA basketball tournament are often referred to as "play-in" games, as the winners of those games win the right to participate in the larger tournament. -- Jkudlick tcs 17:51, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

I first want to thank you for utilizing Module:Sports table to update the league table on the Premiership article; consistency and conformance to the MOS throughout WP:FOOTY are not at the highest of standards. However, another editor raised a concern about listing every fixture in the season overview article, and I agree. The module has a feature whereby a much more compact fixtures table can be created alongside the standings table. I recreated the table here with a few other changes designed to make it easier to maintain the table. For example, moving the |teamX= parameters to the top rather than alongside each statistics line makes it easier to move teams around, plus it eliminates the seeming necessity of keeping each team's stats in the "right place." Feel free to take a look, and if you like it, place it on the Premiership article. If you have any questions about the overall functions of the module, CRwikiCA and I will be glad to answer them. -- Jkudlick tcs 17:42, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

About the fixture listing, personally I think it's helpful to have it, but you should really raise it on the article's talk page, as I am not a frequent contributor to the page and I am leaving in a week on a long wikibreak.
About the parameter moving, it's much easier to move it around when the teams are next to their stats, as you have to change the number anyway to change the positioning.
Now your way might look better, however see what happens in a few rounds:
This is now:
|team1=AC |team2=TW |team3=WU |team4=SU |team5=CU |team6=HBU |team7=WP |team8=WBU |team9=WSC
|win_AC=4 |draw_AC=0 |loss_AC=0 |gf_AC=10 |ga_AC=2 <!--Auckland City-->
|win_TW=2 |draw_TW=2 |loss_TW=0 |gf_TW=9 |ga_TW=7 <!--Team Wellington-->
|win_WU=2 |draw_WU=0 |loss_WU=2 |gf_WU=6 |ga_WU=6 <!--Waitakere United-->
|win_SU=2 |draw_SU=0 |loss_SU=1 |gf_SU=3 |ga_SU=4 <!--Southern United-->
|win_CU=1 |draw_CU=1 |loss_CU=1 |gf_CU=4 |ga_CU=3 <!--Canterbury United-->
|win_HBU=1 |draw_HBU=1 |loss_HBU=1 |gf_HBU=6 |ga_HBU=6 <!--Hawke's Bay United-->
|win_WP=1 |draw_WP=0 |loss_WP=2 |gf_WP=5 |ga_WP=4 <!--Wellington Phoenix-->
|win_WBU=1 |draw_WBU=0 |loss_WBU=2 |gf_WBU=5 |ga_WBU=6 <!--WaiBOP United-->
|win_WSC=0 |draw_WSC=0 |loss_WSC=5 |gf_WSC=4 |ga_WSC=14 <!--Wanderers SC-->
Say the bottom teams start winning (to change places around) for example results: WSC 4-2 AC, HBU 2-1 TW, WP 5-0 WU, WBU 4-3 SU
so now your way is like this:
|team1=AC |team2=TW |team7=WU |team6=SU |team8=CU |team3=HBU |team4=WP |team5=WBU |team9=WSC
|win_AC=4 |draw_AC=0 |loss_AC=1 |gf_AC=12 |ga_AC=6 <!--Auckland City-->
|win_TW=2 |draw_TW=2 |loss_TW=1 |gf_TW=10 |ga_TW=9 <!--Team Wellington-->
|win_WU=2 |draw_WU=0 |loss_WU=3 |gf_WU=6 |ga_WU=11 <!--Waitakere United-->
|win_SU=2 |draw_SU=0 |loss_SU=2 |gf_SU=6 |ga_SU=8 <!--Southern United-->
|win_CU=1 |draw_CU=1 |loss_CU=1 |gf_CU=4 |ga_CU=3 <!--Canterbury United-->
|win_HBU=2 |draw_HBU=1 |loss_HBU=1 |gf_HBU=8 |ga_HBU=7 <!--Hawke's Bay United-->
|win_WP=2 |draw_WP=0 |loss_WP=2 |gf_WP=10 |ga_WP=4 <!--Wellington Phoenix-->
|win_WBU=2 |draw_WBU=0 |loss_WBU=2 |gf_WBU=9 |ga_WBU=9 <!--WaiBOP United-->
|win_WSC=1 |draw_WSC=0 |loss_WSC=5 |gf_WSC=8 |ga_WSC=16 <!--Wanderers SC-->
while mine is like this:
|team1=AC |win_AC=4 |draw_AC=0 |loss_AC=1 |gf_AC=12 |ga_AC=6 <!--Auckland City-->
|team2=TW |win_TW=2 |draw_TW=2 |loss_TW=1 |gf_TW=10 |ga_TW=9 <!--Team Wellington-->
|team3=HBU |win_HBU=2 |draw_HBU=1 |loss_HBU=1 |gf_HBU=8 |ga_HBU=7 <!--Hawke's Bay United-->
|team4=WP |win_WP=2 |draw_WP=0 |loss_WP=2 |gf_WP=10 |ga_WP=4 <!--Wellington Phoenix-->
|team5=WBU |win_WBU=2 |draw_WBU=0 |loss_WBU=2 |gf_WBU=9 |ga_WBU=9 <!--WaiBOP United-->
|team6=SU |win_SU=2 |draw_SU=0 |loss_SU=2 |gf_SU=6 |ga_SU=8 <!--Southern United-->
|team7=WU |win_WU=2 |draw_WU=0 |loss_WU=3 |gf_WU=6 |ga_WU=11 <!--Waitakere United-->
|team8=CU |win_CU=1 |draw_CU=1 |loss_CU=1 |gf_CU=4 |ga_CU=3 <!--Canterbury United-->
|team9=WSC|win_WSC=1 |draw_WSC=0 |loss_WSC=5 |gf_WSC=8 |ga_WSC=16 <!--Wanderers SC-->

--SuperJew (talk) 18:46, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
@SuperJew: @CRwikiCA: @Jkudlick: Having read the footy discussion and this discussion I have a few thoughts.
  1. Firstly I dont think the fixture discussion was if it should be used in this new module or not. I believe it should be like it is with footballbox or a separate result table like in 2014–15 Premier League and many other leagues. As it is in Jkudlick sandbox (linked above) it is (at least to me), many linebreaks in qualification column and all info does not fit on the rows. To mant teams to have fixtures in the module.
  2. Consensus was to show "Qualification to (tournament) in that column and that years and confederation can be omitted, so then it should be "Qualification to Champions League".
  3. The postition of teamX parameter I am considering the way of SuperJew for larger tables, it may be easier if new editors only have to update on only one spot. However on small tables (like 4 teams) the other way is okay. I would however always list team in position order (and not like
|team1=AC |team2=TW |team7=WU |team6=SU |team8=CU |team3=HBU |team4=WP |team5=WBU |team9=WSC but instead
|team1=AC |team2=TW |team3=HBU |team4=WP |team5=WBU |team6=SU |team7=WU |team8=CU |team9=WSC
That is my thoughts, thought I should share them. Any more ideas regarding position for teamX parameter? QED237 (talk) 22:35, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
@Jkudlick and Qed237:I read the discussion and I updated the article with the consensus wording for the results column. I think also the league first goes to the Finals Series, so I included that as well. The way the parameters in the module are organized can changes, but it might be more cumbersome to do when having to copy/paste whole lines. Ultimately I think parameter organization should be up to the article/template contributors, because whatever the organization it looks the same in the table. The fixtures could also use Module:Sports results as a table that is not right next to the standings table. I have never really paid attention to fixture listings like that and don't fully know current consensus. Would the full fixtures be typically "allowed" on a separate page or something? Although in number of matches it is the same as 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONMEBOL), which does have the full fixture listing. CRwikiCA talk 15:15, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I will agree that the order of parameters is best left up to the table creator/maintainer, as it is whatever works best for them and will display the same way regardless of the order the parameters are listed. However, I don't believe that a full list of fixtures is appropriate for a league (even as small as the ASB Premiership is, there are still 72 matches to display), but I cannot seem to find any discussion of fixtures tables in the WT:FOOTY archives other than "Are the FA fixtures tables still copyrighted?" in order to produce consensus one way or the other. A more compact table, whether adjacent to the module or below it using Module:Sports results, looks better to me, and can even have individual results wikilinked to the appropriate lines on a separate article or within a club's season page. I will (usually) defer, of course, to those who usually maintain a specific article or subject. -- Jkudlick tcs 15:46, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
@CRwikiCA and Jkudlick: The fixtures are not allowed on other pages from what I know, recently (about 1-2 moths ago) a article for Premier League fixtures (with many footballboxes) was created and immediately deleted after a AfD. The footballboxes and all information in those (goalscorers, referees and so on) are for the indvidual club season articles. However almost all league articles (all I have seen) uses templates to build a result section (look like module:sports results) that lists all results. In my opinion we should definately go around and replace those results-section with result-module after we have updated all tables (and found consensus at footy). The current way of displaying results-table uses the fb team-templates that should be removed from wikipedia as per older consensus (one reason of this league table-module). For example look at 2014–15 Premier League how it is now build with templates. In my opinion the results should be in separate section if it is a league (big table) but when it is group stage with few and many table on same page then it should be together with table. CONMEBOL qualification could probably have a separate section as well since it is only one table on that page, but I have no problem if it is included in table as long as it does not get to wide and linebreaks in the table.
