2023 Feb WOSO tournaments

Hey Kante4, was wondering if we should do another list like last year. I've already seen confirmation of the FFA Cup of Nations (that name should probably be changed) coming back with Jamaica confirming participation and also 2023 Arnold Clark Cup has been confirmed. SheBelieves Cup is also expected to happen as is Tournoi de France. --SuperJew (talk) 06:42, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey, i was thinking the last few days about that aswell. ;) Yeah, we can do that of course. Later today or tomorrow i can check a few things and create articles if needed. Kante4 (talk) 08:47, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay. Kind of much to do the last days. Have next week off and will try to find more or create the articles. Kante4 (talk) 11:18, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
All good :) I'm totally busy too - uni, work, and a baby son too (almost 4 months old) --SuperJew (talk) 18:47, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
2023 SheBelieves Cup is confirmed with Brazil, Canada, and Japan. --SuperJew (talk) 08:13, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Congrats. ;) Kante4 (talk) 17:54, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

So, we have to create:

Cup of Nations and Tournoi de France have not released all teams, so i will wait. For everthing else, not found anything but still some time. Kante4 (talk) 13:05, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

@Kante4: Great job! I have an exam tomorrow so this'll be quick. Doubt for the Cup of Nations that each nation will play only one game. This tweet sounds like each nation will play the other three. Also, I think the page should be changed, as the FFA changed it's name to Football Australia. --SuperJew (talk) 17:15, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Also the 2019 edition was 2019 Cup of Nations. --SuperJew (talk) 17:16, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Just went by the main article name. So if you think it should be changed, we can do that, no oppose from me. And i just added the first games as they were confirmed, which order e.g.. Kante4 (talk) 17:50, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
yeah I think the main page should be moved too, though not sure to what. But the 2023 version imo should be named "2023 Cup of Nations" like the 2019 version. --SuperJew (talk) 18:06, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Normally, the main article should also have the same name. There is a redirect to Cup of Nations (women's football), maybe that can be used, same as with Tournoi de France. Kante4 (talk) 18:09, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
good idea so long as they don't give it some other official name (not sure "FFA Cup of Nations" was ever the official name). maybe we should wait until official announcement of the tournament? -- SuperJew (talk) 18:10, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, let's wait. No need to move it twice. We can decide when something is out. So far, nothing for Cyprus and Turkey found. Kante4 (talk) 18:19, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

@Kante4: Just saw that 2023 WAFU Zone A Women's Cup is set to take place in Cape Verde. Should we add it to the list? --SuperJew (talk) 09:03, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

Looks more like an official tournament, a smaller Zone Cup, I would not include it. Kante4 (talk) 15:38, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

@Kante4: And Romanian FA published a press release about the Cyprus Cup (Wosoworld has the schedule). --SuperJew (talk) 13:46, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Nice. Will take a look later/tomorrow or when i get time. ;) Kante4 (talk) 18:38, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
Official website updated and no RSA. Croatia, Finland, Hungary, Romania confirmed per that. Kante4 (talk) 20:23, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

@Kante4: Based on postings from Jordan there will be a Turkish Women's Cup with Jordan, North Macedonia, Hong Kong, and Estonia (schedule here). Will try to find something more official if I have time (I have a big exam on the 31st) --SuperJew (talk) 16:39, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

Will also take a look at it and see if i find anything. Kante4 (talk) 16:44, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
@Kante4: announcement from JFA --SuperJew (talk) 21:38, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

@Kante4: We also have a new tournament in Mexico - the Women's Revelations Cup with Mexico, Costa Rica, Nigeria, and Colombia (schedule here) --SuperJew (talk) 19:57, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

Nice. I would like to cite those tournaments with websites instead of twitter and will look for something. Kante4 (talk) 20:30, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Found something in the spanish wiki article. And main article to be created after it was held last year aswell. Kante4 (talk) 20:33, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Ah I see we have an article for 2022 Women's Revelations Cup. Seems it was an U-17 Cup, but this year I understand is for seniors. --SuperJew (talk) 20:37, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Here are another two sources Kante4 (talk · contribs): [1] [2] --SuperJew (talk) 10:51, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
Yup for sure. I totally trust karlyboy71 from all I've seen him post on Twitter, but I know that for Wiki we prefer more verifiable sourcing. --SuperJew (talk) 20:39, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

There are eight teams in Turkey? Per the draft which is already up... Kante4 (talk) 19:03, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

interesting seems so (also had a search and found this). It would be nice to have more official confirmation though. (also saw a rumour of a third group including Kosovo) --SuperJew (talk) 21:30, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
and now I saw this report which claims South Africa will play Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela which contradicts the previous which was info from Zambia. So confusing... --15:21, 30 January 2023 (UTC) SuperJew (talk) 15:21, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
But it says that Zambia will face Slovenia, Venezuela and Usbekistan. Maybe they don't have groups or just one big group? I hate that those tournament have no website.. Kante4 (talk) 11:39, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
it sounds contradicting, so I'm a bit confused. Hope some of the Football Associations will publish something official that will clear it up some. --SuperJew (talk) 07:43, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
Well Slovenia's FA has published an official release with their squad and schedule - they will face Uzbekistan, Zambia, and Turkey. So that's one group. And a second group (per the Jordan FA release we mentioned earlier) is Jordan, North Macedonia, Hong Kong, and Estonia. The draft mentions another 5 teams but can't see that based on any sourcing (also they were added randomly into the existing groups), so... --SuperJew (talk) 15:21, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
And Venezuela has announced they're playing Zambia, Turkey, and South Africa [3], [4] so super confused how this tournament works --SuperJew (talk) 15:31, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
My head hurts. :D Maybe just one big group with all teams and play random teams? Or no group at all? Kante4 (talk) 19:35, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
This has the fixtures and has the schedule on his website but nothing reliable found. Kante4 (talk) 15:29, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
I just don't understand how you have a tournament like that --SuperJew (talk) 16:45, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
I would love move the article to mainspace, but i miss the official schedule. The site from twitter looks not reliable. Kante4 (talk) 17:29, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
let's give it a few more days. I have an exam tomorrow morning and then I should have more time available to have a look :) --SuperJew (talk) 17:34, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
this tweet has links to FAs' annoucnements for schedudling. Though I've also seen something about Bulgaria which I think was official. And someone mentioned Azerbaijan but haven't seen official. --SuperJew (talk) 19:08, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Still meh... :D Kante4 (talk) 21:30, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
How about CBS Sports (for the participating teams at least)? -- SuperJew (talk) 20:50, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, at least something. ;) He said on twitter he got the fixtures from FIFA, but where are they? But i can add the times per here. Kante4 (talk) 11:42, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
and apparently Venezuela and Turkey have pulled out (couldn't find anything official about Venezuela and haven't looked for Turkey). What a mess of a tournament. --SuperJew (talk) 22:20, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Yeah, but the earthquake really changed things, so i understand Turkey. Venezuela not there due to solidarity. Kante4 (talk) 10:15, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Good find. Obviously, I'm not blaming Turkey. --SuperJew (talk) 10:33, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
All good, Turkey made the correct decision. I just dislike how the tournament has no official info. A small cite like Cyprus does is enough. Kante4 (talk) 10:51, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Seems Jordan have withdrawn too if I understand the Google translation correctly (@Nehme1499: could you verify?). At this rate, I wonder if the tournament will still take place. --SuperJew (talk) 13:29, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
I can confirm that Jordan withdrew from the tournament in Turkey. Nehme1499 14:31, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Btw can't find anything official from Turkey. Which you'd think would be the first ones to update. --SuperJew (talk) 13:45, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

@Kante4: Following the withdrawls, Zambia has a new match schedule, as does Slovenia. --SuperJew (talk) 13:16, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Will see what i can do with that. ;) Kante4 (talk) 16:16, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
What a mess. The schedule is weird now. Kante4 (talk) 18:19, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
yup very unclear. Has North Macedonia moved groups? Is there groups? What??? --SuperJew (talk) 20:34, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
okay, Zambia v North Macedonia is not part of the tournament. --SuperJew (talk) 10:17, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, why not make ZAM and RSA play eachother in "Group A"... Kante4 (talk) 10:41, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
CONFUSION INTENSIFIES --SuperJew (talk) 10:43, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Good job creating all this, even though it was tough here and there. :D Kante4 (talk) 09:27, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks to you :D --SuperJew (talk) 16:32, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Hallo, When you change the disambiguation for a red link, as you did here, please check to see whether there are existing links to that red link, and change any that there are. I've fixed her entry at 2012 W-League grand final, so we don't have two different red links for one person. Thanks. PamD 10:11, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

Ayom Majok

Hey mate,

I see you undid my transfer for Majok. He was announced as being on a “youth development agreement” which is seemingly the term Brisbane are using for scholarship players.

They also did this for all of their other players listed as having scholarships as reflected by this release: https://brisbaneroar.com.au/news/brisbane-roars-a-league-mens-side-bolstered-by-youth-signings

So either all of these players should be listed as scholarships (the article implies that they are scholarships) or they are all removed as they didn’t actually use the word ‘scholarship’ in the announcement.

Cheers,

Ausfootballfan Ausfootballfan (talk) 01:50, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

fair go. I'm not sure what Brisbane actually mean by that. Will put up on task force talk page --SuperJew (talk) 06:00, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
convo is here. -- SuperJew (talk) 06:04, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

Australian Women's Soccer Association

Wingers as FW or MF

G’day. How do we decide whether to classify wingers as FW or MF? For example, in the current Olyroos squad, all wingers are listed as FW such as Garang Kuol, Marco Tilio etc, but then Marlee Francois who is also a winger is listed as MF.

Shouldn’t there be consistency here? I.e. all wingers listed should all be either FW or MF? Olyroo (talk) 11:56, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

In general, I'd say wingers should be classified as MF, with Winger (association football) redirecting to the Midfielder page, Winger section. However, in this specific case (and in as many cases as possible) we go by the source. The squad announcement lists FRANCOIS, Marlee as a midfielder while it lists KUOL, Garang & TILIO, Marco as forwards. --SuperJew (talk) 16:00, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Ahh I understand, thanks for the response! Olyroo (talk) 20:33, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
And I'll add on a personal note, that I haven't come across you yet on Wiki (even though from your contribs you're here since 2009) :) So nice to meet you, thanks for opening a civil discussion, and hope we continue working together mate :) --SuperJew (talk) 16:02, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Likewise, it’s a pleasure! I’m trying my best to help out and still always learning, so appreciate the support :) Olyroo (talk) 20:34, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

2023 Maurice Revello Tournament

commented - to your comment on Europe flags - in a subsequent edit. Matilda Maniac (talk) 13:48, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

Thanks mate!
I was considering no flag, but it seems odd when all the rest of the list have their flags (and the primary sort is by that too). I would say they are representing the Mediterranean region. The tournament website has an icon (which reminds me of the Brazilian flag), which seems to be the word MEDITERRANEAN in white on blue circle with dark blue stripes on a light blue background. Maybe we should use it too? From pics of their uniform, in place of the country's coat of arms they have a blue circle with the words "Selection Mediterranee" in big with under it in smaller "Tournoi Maurice REVELLO Juin 2023". --SuperJew (talk) 14:44, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
I think they are a described as a "selection", so they are not officially representing anything - such as a whole region - generating an icon for this would be obvious WP:OR in my view. The rest of the list have their flags, because they are in official teams, and are representing their countries. Having the nationality of the player that scored might or might not be misleading; but I see nothing wrong with having flagless goalscores in an article of this type. Matilda Maniac (talk) 19:20, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
I don't know if it's wrong per se, but it does beg the question of why, especially from the casual reader and from a reader who also looks over the tournament website where they do have an icon/flag. If we use the icon from the tournament website, how is that WP:OR? --SuperJew (talk) 19:28, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

How's it going?

See you're busy with soccer edits. Hope the Matildas do well!! MaskedSinger (talk) 09:37, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Haha yup there's so much going on, I'm editing much more than I should be 😅
Hope it goes well for us. The preparation has been good and I really enjoyed watching about it on the doco Matildas: The World at Our Feet (strongly recommend!). Just saw the bad news though that Sammy won't play at least the first 2 matches so really hope we can get the job done without her (one important take I had from the doco was that without Sammy we struggle and barely win). --SuperJew (talk) 09:53, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
They did ok against Ireland. Lucky to win but you're right. I'll give the doco a go. You finished with exams? MaskedSinger (talk) 14:58, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
Def a lucky win with that penalty. Should be okay against Nigeria though and hopefully Sammy will be back for Canada. --SuperJew (talk) 15:05, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Mariela Campos

Looks like you're right; there are two Costa Rican players named Mariela Campos, Mariela Campos Alfaro (born 1991) and Mariela Campos Alvarado (born 1998). Soccerway seems to have conflated the two into a single profile, which is why I thought they were the same person. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 16:59, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

That sometimes happens. The best is to check official sources if available :) --SuperJew (talk) 08:21, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi, saw your name!

It certainly grabs attention! haha ;)

anyway never mind, just a wee joke between jews :)

hope you had a relaxing shabbos and maybe we can work on footy related stuff together; i'm currently planning to get around to improving the Football in Scotland page. i left a bit of a scathing entry in the talk page. oof, it needs work!

Banned from the Olympics . . .

It appears to me (as a reader) that the status of the following teams without WP:ICONDECORATION flags in the section below is as follows:

  • no flag for Melbourne City: banned from the Olympics
  • no flag for Western United: banned from the Olympics
  • no flag for all the other A-League teams: banned from the Olympics

A-league fixtures

21 October 2023 1 Melbourne City v Western United Melbourne
17:30 AEDT Report Stadium: AAMI Park
Matilda Maniac (talk) 04:51, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
@Matilda Maniac: No need to spam and WP:WALLOFTEXT my talk page to make a point. But to answer the actual point, there's a difference between a season's worth of fixtures with no flags for any of the teams and between a few matches in which 3 out of 4 teams have flags and the 4th doesn't. The difference is what can raise a question and look odd, not that there are no flags. But you knew this and are just making a point for the sake of the argument. --SuperJew (talk) 18:31, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
Didnt know WP:WALLOFTEXT was a thing. Learn something every day. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:40, 10 September 2023 (UTC)

Central Coast Mariners FC squad

I was aligning the two articles with the same squad. copy/paste from one to the other. If the edit you made is correct, should the copy/paste be done back to the Central Coast Mariners FC article so they both align, removing the youth players? If so, can you make that alteration please? Matilda Maniac (talk) 10:57, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

As I wrote should be only senior-contracted players (on club page too) --SuperJew (talk) 15:26, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

Reverting legitimate edits.

Your reverts to the WSW transfer page to remove clearly sourced and true content are baffling and seem like an attempt to start an edit war because you want to own the page and unilaterally decide what goes on it. Who are you to decide that a legitimate edit isn't worth of being on the page? Macktheknifeau (talk) 18:01, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

I gave you the reasoning - the consensus on the A-League pages (and I believe also to a larger extent on all football transfer pages) is to only have transfers of players joining or leaving the first team. If you want to challenge or discuss the consensus you can do so at the Australia task force talk page (or at a larger extent at WT:FOOTY). Don't try to make up that I am randomly doing it on some agenda you invented. Also I am not the first to revert your addition. --SuperJew (talk) 18:20, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Collingwood FC

Hi SuperJew how are you. I just wanted to talk to you because you changed the Collingwood AFLW coach from "To Be Announced" to, "To Be Determined". Wouldn't it be more specific if it was to be announced. Because The Collingwood Women's team has to announce a new coach. I'm not saying your wrong, you have way more experience than me. I just am wondering why. Cheers, MrFlyingPies23 (talk) 21:12, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Have the club determined yet who is going to be the new coach? In the announcement about Symonds parting ways, it says The Club will form a selection panel to appoint Collingwood’s next AFLW Senior Coach in the coming week. Since they haven't decided yet who will be the next coach, TBA is wrong in my opinion, and TBD should be used. TBA is for cases when the club has decided something but has not yet announced it. --SuperJew (talk) 21:24, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

I'm finished now for a while (cant find a separate AFC Cup secondary reference at this point, but will keep looking for something appropriate soon). . . i decided to split the Champions League from the AFC Cup as they are separate competitions and more importantly different quality competitions, so Túlio's efforts are not the same as Berisha's in a better competition. Dare I say "not in th same lague". Matilda Maniac (talk) 10:19, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
You know mate, not every time I revert you on something, you have to yell "SuperJewpedia". I had a real reason to revert you - we shouldn't have partial information on Wikipedia when it seems to the user that it is the full information (as it says As of 14 December 2023).
Regarding the split of ACL from AFC Cup, I can see the merit of it. However, I think if we do that, we need to split all the information. Currently, the stats by club and stats by opponents league are all for both competitions. If we say the info should be separate, then it should be for that too. If the info is for all continental competitions, then also the goalscorers should be together. Also, if it is split like now, how to deal in future with players who score in both competitions?
Perhaps we should bring the question up at a larger forum? --SuperJew (talk) 11:06, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
Agreed. Matilda Maniac (talk) 11:52, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
