Mind the Gap Award
I, SarahStierch, hereby award you, SusanLesch, with the Mind the Gap award for your excellent work pertaining to women's history and feminism on Wikipedia. Thank you for your hard work at succeeding to make Feminism a good article! Congratulations and thanks for all you do.
Thank you, Sarah. Happy to see you awarded this to Cailil who did almost all of the work! -SusanLesch (talk) 18:33, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm just wondering, why did you remove the image in Kotok-McCarthy? It seemed good to me. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 05:30, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Bubba73, thank you. I restored it just now. If you can improve the file description, go ahead. Somebody had one or two images from Alan Kotok marked for later deletion. I was just afraid they would do that with this one and didn't think of a solution until you asked. (It works just fine to have two non-free use rationales.) -SusanLesch (talk) 21:59, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

DYK for The Relaxation Response

Orlady (talk) 00:02, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Academy of Achievement

Hello Susan, I've very recently been engaged by the Academy of Achievement to see if I can help resolve the ongoing issues related to their Wikipedia article, with which you've been involved recently. Based on my review of recent developments, it seems the version prior to November was much too promotional; however, I'm concerned that the version following your edits has now gone too far in the other direction. Indeed, the EduCap material is only tangentially related to the Academy; while I believe a reference to the controversy is not unwarranted, I believe the current article has become a "coatrack".

In hopes of obtaining a speedy resolution to the issue, I've prepared and proposed a new version of the article which is carefully researched and aims to be neutral. I hope it can be an acceptable compromise or, at least, a starting point toward one. I've asked other recently involved editors to look at the draft and discuss the matter on the article's Talk page, and I'd like to seek your input as well. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 18:38, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Re: Brahmavihara

Hi. The article on Buddhism is far from being a featured article, and if you take a look at the archives, we've had lots of issues to deal with over the years. At this point, the article needs a rewrite with an attention to significant detail like the Brahmavihara. It would be helpful if you could help contribute to this process. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 06:54, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Re: Comments

Based on your past contributions, I can't think of anyone more qualified than you to write it.
Very funny.

I was seriously referring to your recent work on articles such as The Relaxation Response, List of sanghas in San Diego County, California, Buddhism and Hinduism, Hara hachi bu and other articles. Viriditas (talk) 04:46, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Oh. You were serious! Thank you very much. Just beginner's luck maybe. -SusanLesch (talk) 14:42, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Minneapolis article

Susan, the first paragraph in the "Religeon & Charity" section of the Minneapolis article is very hard to read. The formatting may "not match the rest of the article", but it is clear and easy to distinguish. If you don't like what I did, then please find a way to make that paragraph more readable. Next, there is not a competition between different things to remove, so your comment on the fact thath the Ordo would "lose a tossup" on which to remove is completely nonsensical. Wikipedia policy clearly states that notability must be established for inclusion. The Ordo has evidently done so, since it has its own article, and so I left that there. If and when the Athiest group mentioned establishes notability according to established proceedure, then by all means, include them. Thanks. SeanNovack (talk) 14:09, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

SeanNovack, if the whole article was written in one-sentence paragraphs it would be a disaster. Thus I will continue to revert your formatting changes. Regarding your omission, nobody says notability has to be established for every mention in Wikipedia. Otherwise why not wikilink every word? I'm sorry but I don't find your deletion to be helpful, or in line with representing every point of view. Also sorry if you find the article hard to read but its format stood up to years of review by other readers. -SusanLesch (talk) 14:32, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
My apologies. In the past we were able to work issues out on this page (note: the relpy you left today was for the last issue we debated, not this one) and I hoped we could work this out here. Feel free to remove this discussion if you would prefer it not be on your userpage. SeanNovack (talk) 15:33, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Proposed compromise for Academy of Achievement

Hi Susan, I know you had said you were done with the Academy of Achievement Talk page, but my latest suggestion builds on one of your previous paragraphs and, since the conversation has progressed a bit, I'd like to invite back editors who were involved previously. Wow. Thank you so much. It was nice to "meet" you today. -SusanLesch (talk) 15:46, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Likewise. I see you edit Buddhism articles, or was Eihei-ji a one off? Mine have mainly been Tibet related but I'm proud of getting Sera Monastery to GA and starting articles on its hermitages! Unlike my good friend User:John Hill though I haven;t been to Tibet myself.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:59, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Sera Monastery is a beautiful article. Thank you for the pointer. If you ever try for FA (and, say, post a note at Wikiproject Buddhism) maybe I can review it. Never been to Tibet but the Dalai Lama is expected to visit here (San Diego) in about two weeks. I started in on Sōji-ji because my teacher is Sōtō. Metta. -SusanLesch (talk) 16:14, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! Well I don't know about FA, its very tough! Wow you have a Zen Buddhist teacher. Amazing. Do they teach you meditation and the works?Mahamuni Buddha Temple, Paro Taktsang, Punakha Dzong are other Buddhism related GAs I can think of I've written which might interest you. I'm especially intrigued by Bhutan! Unfortunately my long term collaborator Nvvchar is no longer with us. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:36, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Good grief! Nvvchar had 505 DYKs. Paro Taktsang looks breathtakingly beautiful. All I remember about Bhutan is the happiness survey and something on CBS 60 Minutes. Brian McFadden move

FWIW, I disgree with your move. However if you are going to move BMcF, you might at least consider constructing a disambiguation page rather than leaving the vacated page a redirect, otherwise the move is pointless. --Tagishsimon (talk) 11:41, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Tagishsimon. Thank you for the suggestion. I can try to make a disambiguation page sometime. As it stands, priority goes to the singer. -SusanLesch (talk) 14:59, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
What then was the purpose of your move? What has it achieved? If the singer is primary, why was the article moved? --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:58, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
Another notable individual with the same name belongs in Wikipedia. -SusanLesch (talk) 18:59, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Brian McFadden is now a disambiguation page instead of a redirect to the singer. -SusanLesch (talk) 16:00, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Mmm. We're still not on the same wavelength. My understanding is that if there is a primary article (cf. "priority goes to the singer") then that article gets the unmodified title, Foo, and the dab page is entitled Foo (disambiguation). Only where there is no primary topic would the dab page get the Foo title. See the example for Rice at Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Deciding_to_disambiguate. So in this case, by my reading, we would have three articles:
--Tagishsimon (talk) 16:26, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Tagishsimon, you are welcome to rearrange these pages any way you like. I'm completely done with this topic. I can see now that my addition of "(singer)" didn't help anything, and disagree that "priority goes to the singer" (just because his career started first?). You are welcome to change what I did to anything that you want. -SusanLesch (talk) 18:24, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
"priority goes to the singer" is a quote from your post, above. So now you don't agree with yourself? Very odd. I'm not minded to clean up your mess in this instance. The bottom line is that you have not followed wikipedia guidelines on disambiguations, and have left a stinking great mess in the form of a hundred or so now misdirected links at Special:WhatLinksHere/Brian_McFadden. (Previously these successfull got the reader to the desired article on the singer. now they just take the reader to a dab page) Having started, I think it is incumbent on you to finish. "I'm completely done with this topic" doesn't cut it. It would help if you showed any appreciation of your error. --Tagishsimon (talk) 15:29, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Tagishsimon, you are the person who wrote "you might at least consider constructing a disambiguation page". Which I did. So I'm done. By the way, I don't plan to reply again here. -SusanLesch (talk) 15:38, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

The article Bev Forsman has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No independent reliable references in the article or could be found. Being a Zen teacher is not inherently notable. All information in the article comes from the one ref and according to the refs policy,

Most biographies are submitted by the individual the biography depicts."

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Please check the correct grammar usage on the Donna Summer article.

I believe you erred in your correction to the article.

The proper usage, if not mistaken, should be "was". The actual service is what is being referred to. If you remove the "exact location" and "time", the "service" would still stand at "was".

Sorry to add more, but the change was through a direct quote on Essence' website.

Cheers.

--Allamericanbear (talk) 22:18, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome to change it back. The Gregg Reference Manual says to disregard "intervening phrases and clauses" which means to my ear, "The exact location and time were kept secret." -SusanLesch (talk) 22:56, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm not quite following you. What it is means to your ear doesn't tell me if it's grammatically correct or incorrect. According to my ear it sounded incorrect, and I asked for you to check my request, I may have been wrong, and actually welcome someone showing me the proper wording.
Although I've changed it back, I'm sitting here asking myself if you've actually told me to revert an error on my part.
I apologize if I'm more apt to writing and understanding in more simplistic ways of putting things, but I feel the request still has not been answered. If your correction was correct, I'm at least smart enough to learn from it and remember to use the proper grammar if I come across a similar situation.
Sorry to make this whole thing sound like a mountain over a molehill. It's just seeming like so many entries lately have been made without explaining details, something that I thought "verifiable" references should solve.
I hope you're not finding offence to my pressing the matter. It's not my intention to be that way.
--Allamericanbear (talk) 18:18, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
You asked me to check it which I did. My source says my edit was correct. You and Essence may disagree which is fine with me, and the reason I said to change it back if you wish. Best wishes. -SusanLesch (talk) 01:46, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Maud Hart Lovelace.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Maud Hart Lovelace.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Sōji-ji

Hi, Susan. I have been working a bit on Sōji-ji, which you wrote, mainly adding links, macrons and doing other minor stuff like that. I visited the temple yesterday and came back with good material, so I plan to expand it.

I think however that most if not all of the "Food and Cooking" section should go because manifestly non neutral, non encyclopedic and out of place.

Quote from Wikipedia's own MOS: Prefer nonjudgmental language. A neutral point of view neither sympathizes with nor disparages its subject (or what reliable sources say about the subject), although this must sometimes be balanced against clarity.

I doubt that the fact the cook has the "intention to please those who will eat them" is relevant. Any cook wants to please.

Expressions like "using all of each ingredient with gratitude for it." are hardly neutral. In any case, Zen food and cooking are matters that do not concern only Sōji-ji and should therefore be treated elsewhere. Text that could be of interest, like Dōgen's three objectives of cooking, would be better used on Dōgen's page.

Before deleting the section I wanted however to discuss the issue with you, who penned those words. Can I proceed? --Frank (Urashima Tarō) (talk) 22:46, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, you should proceed. No need to ask me. -SusanLesch (talk) 03:27, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

How come you want to count age records "for humans" only? Don't we separate between the sexes for athletic records, too? Or would you support throwing top male 100 metre times and top female 100 metre times together in one list, thus eliminating all female? I hope not. --bender235 (talk) 06:35, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

It's not a bad idea. Thank you for responding where this discussion belongs, In The News and not here. Best wishes, -SusanLesch (talk) 15:03, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
I did respond there, but the discussion was closed. Unfortunately. Anyways, I hope you back off of that crazy idea of throwing male and female athletics records (or age records, for that matter) together. --bender235 (talk) 16:02, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

MNopedia

Hi Susan, Thanks for contacting us at MNopedia. MNopedia made an editorial decision early on to use a bibliography rather than in-line citation, since that's how encyclopedias traditionally cited their sources. We hope that our entries' bibliographies will be a useful starting place for Wikipedians. Mhsrc (talk) 20:03, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mhsrc. I replied in in place. Thank you. -SusanLesch (talk) 01:27, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Lafayette Park Historic District DYK

Thanks for approving it. What, exactly, did you find "lazy" about the citing (not upset or anything, just want to know for quality control purposes)? Daniel Case (talk) 18:01, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Not to worry. I think you can do a better job of sourcing, with an inline citation for the hook fact. If not one, then three. Instead this led me to look up each of the three people individually. It was probably my fault for choosing the ALT hook. Best wishes, -20:01, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Daniel, I went back to look at your article again. The same problem presents itself. In the lead you mention all three people in your hook. I think if you had given inline citations right there, we'd not be discussing this. Hope this helps. -SusanLesch (talk) 23:42, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
You're right—at the time I began the article, I was scattered between three or four other different things, hadn't been able to develop the article to the extent I usually do so I was really trying to make sure I nominated it in time (often late noms get accepted, but every so often I get a reviewer who doesn't cut me a break on that) and wasn't as focused on the fact that the hook facts need to be sourced if it's in the intro. Thank you. I'll fix that now. Daniel Case (talk) 13:42, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I guess one could say I was too "lazy" to bother to ask you to fix that before okaying it. But I figured by now you must know every rule inside out. How many DYKs have you done? -SusanLesch (talk) 14:30, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Assuming that's not a rhetorical question, 500+. Don't worry ... I would have fixed it if you'd pointed it out. Daniel Case (talk) 18:34, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
