To kick-off monthly meetups in the Twin Cities, two events will be held in Special Collections at Minneapolis Central Library this summer. These are mostly planned as opportunities for Wikipedians to discuss editing, but all are welcome!

Special Collections contains many valuable historical resources, including the Minneapolis Collection, consisting of files on hundreds of topics related to Minneapolis from neighborhoods to politicians (it's best to call or email in advance to request materials). Free wifi and several public computers are available.

Well, I asked because you extracted the first one from the PDF, and I think those photos would be very valuable for the Wikimedia Commons collection as it shows the progression of the NSA headquarters through the years. OK, thank you for explaining. Just take a screenshot. (Wikipedia's article seems to have instructions for most every operating system.)
Now that we're talking, it might be a good thing to coordinate a little bit on the NSA article. I started to work on it because I thought that by now it should at least be clear about the physical locations of the agency. The first part, if you don't scroll down too far, seems to be in pretty good shape. I cut the Echelon section way back. I also had to add "refimprove" tags to every section that has no citations. (Other sections might also need sources but those stood out.) So when and if we get time, maybe we could work on citing every section? I think NSA should be at least a B class, if not a GA. Question about NSA headquarters

Susan,

The NSA picture gallery here includes the National Vigilance Park and the Cryptologic Museum. Are they "on" NSA property? If so I would include them in the NSA headquarters commons category. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:55, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Also, thanks for the message on my talk page. I need to read the paper to see how the author of it came to the conclusion of the different averages on IQ test of the studies participants. I have to wonder if the results have been found to hold true in other large studies. Either way, it does explain, and increase my understanding of, why individuals who support affirmative action do so. Minneapolis

Susan, thanks for your introduction on my talk page. Re your undos of my edit of the Media section (and creation of a new section), can you explain what does not appear constructive? I removed the NYT reference because it isn't relevant to the section. The new Popular culture section I created afforded an appropriate place for the information I moved there that doesn't relate to Minneapolis media for which the Media section appears intended. 55401612MSP (talk) 04:46, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

  • Over the years, a number of people have tried to insert the nickname "Murderapolis", usually in the Government section. Sorry to be hypersensitive about it but what we have is a true story (in part, a failure of Minneapolis media).

  • I understand your sensitivity to edits of an article you clearly have put much attention and work into. I can live without a new section, although I believe the cited trivia guideline applies to the text that I moved, even though the facts don't live in such a section; one-time auditions for TV shows and actors on a TV show aren't core to the city's essence and don't qualify as media under the Media section. At best, those items are a stretch and at worst are trivia, and should either be deleted or moved elsewhere. The "Murderapolis" citation is just a fish out of water. Agreed, it is true but it doesn't belong in that section in any context; even the existing text vaguely explains how the reference was bastardized, which both stylistically and factually weakens inclusion. If the item, a passing blip on the radar of the city's history, is that important to be included in the article (I would say there are far more important, interesting and pertinent facts we can find) it needs clarity and context - and placement elsewhere (and if it is repeatedly added to the article that simply requires greater diligence in policing it back out; just because people keep adding it doesn't mean it has to be shoehorned into the article). It doesn't belong in the Media section, which, like other sections in the article, describes and discusses the entities and their activities that fall under its part. I would strongly request that you, as an invested editor of this article, reconsider these passages for improvement. It's clear you want this article to be the best it can be and I think that addressing them is in that interest. 55401612MSP (talk) 17:37, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Keith Alexander

Hi Susan,

You made this edit on June 15, 2013 in which you incorrectly changed Keith Alexander's MS in business administration to an MBA. Both Keith Alexander's official NSA biography and the Washington Post say that he has an MS in business administration (not an MBA) from Boston University. I'd actually have stuck with your original, funny enough. Look at disjunctive pronoun. People tend to use her, rather than she, when the nominative case would technically be correct, when the pronoun doesn't stand in subject-initial place. "Is Mom here yet?" "That's her at the door now." Technically that should be "That's she at the door now." But almost no one actually speaks that way. So, in the her-who combination, the less marked forms are used. The use of whom and she draws enough attention I could imagine a joke on the Simpsons, with someone giving a speech, and saying, "if not her, who?" "That is I mean to say, 'If not she, whom.'" Could you glance at some DSM-5 edits

Hello SusanLesch; Your name on the DSM-5 edit page indicated you might have the actual manual available. On the Schizophrenia Talk page, there is a list of DSM-5 transition edits identified for upgrade from DMS-4 residual edits still on the old version of the Page being currently displayed. This is one of the few FA psychology pages and can use a little help or comment from friendly editors. Things have been slowed down in making the DSM-5 transition edits there since not all the editors at that wikipage actually have the DSM-5 in hand. Could you glance at this? City limits

I found this discussion Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cities/US_Guideline/Archive_2#Places_outside_city_limits, which is related to our discussion re Minneapolis city vs MSA. Not terribly enlightening, as "depends on consensus" was the advice given. I share this with you in case this is a topic you want to pursue to try to generate more helpful guidance, which could ultimately end up as a clear instruction on WikiProject Cities/US Guideline as to what is / is not included. Stefan2, I appreciate your efforts to rid Wikipedia of copyrighted materials, but this is getting ridiculous. This clip was removed from the article by a vandal four days ago. Please dont be so offensive. Tagging a file as orphaned non-free is not an attempt to rid wikipedia of non-free files. It is standard practice. I have also tagged thousands of files as orphaned non-free. There are a host of reasons that a file can be tagged, vandalism, article deletion, replaced with a different file, better version uploaded, ect. In a lot of those cases doing the background research as a third party is time consuming and ends up just confirming that the file should be deleted. Given the amount of time that is wasted for someone not familiar with the topic (such a process would take 5-30 minutes per image for someone not familiar with the case) and the fact that someone familiar with the topic can do the exact same thing in 5-30 seconds. It is standard practice to just tag the file and let those familiar with the topic sort out if the file should be tagged or not. Werieth (talk) 17:20, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Also, if files are removed from articles because of vandalism, then it is good if the files are tagged as soon as possible as this informs the uploader so that the file can be restored faster. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:03, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Looking for fellow wikiPedians in SD

Hi Susan! Found you when I was looking for local wikiPedia events and came across https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/LA/SDCC1. I'm sorry I missed the Poway picnic! I'd love to connect sometime to get your insights on how to contribute successfully - I've had some frustrations feeling like I've wasted my time when I've taken the time to contribute good information in good faith, then seen my edits simply removed rather than improved upon. I'm trying to set my interns up with their first time wikiPedia editing experiences and want to nurture them as much as possible - if I can't do it without feeling like a newb, how can I hope they will?  ;-) Not sure yet if I can make it to the ComicCon meetup but hope to - it'd be so good to see a few friendly faces! Greetings, DrMel. It's nice to hear from you. Well the talk page is one place to discuss additions before the fact. Announcing what you plan to change there first might help you reach consensus and eventually pave the way for actually making the changes you'd like to see. I have no idea what articles you're talking about but chances are good that if your additions were reverted that the topic has come up before. Photo issue

File:James Roosevelt-crop.jpg is not James Roosevelt, but Arthur J. Altmeyer. A Wikipedia reader wrote to the Wikimedia Foundation to point out the error.
