Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Sym.Jones32, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Volkswagen article edit

[edit]

I'm posting in your talk page because you seem to be a newcomer here and not someone knowledgable on all Wikipedia rules that sometimes can be mystifying even for experienced editors. As that seems the case, I'm assuming your mistakes were in good faith. Nevertheless, I think they need to be pointed out:

a) Your edit wasn't minor, as it added various potentially challengeable statements without a RS for the claims being made. In any case, an edit which is a minor fix (grammar, style, puntuaction, and so on) and doesn't bring any new info is minor, any other is major.

b) Please make sure you read the article before introducing new info. Part of the things you added were already covered, and with better sources.

c) There's a Volkswagen Group of America article. Not a great one, but it makes its job on explaining what VW Group America is. Your edit was in the VW marque (the cars with a VW badge) article. VW America isn't "another branch", it's the operation that assembles and sells VW-badged cars in America.

d) Your text misrepresents the source, as it advances a conclusion that such source doesn't (namely, that Volkswagen Group of America is a separate branch in relation to the VW marque). Always stick to the source (although avoiding close paraphrasing) and don't say more things that the sources do.

I posted a comment in the article's talk page about some of the non-policy related issues. If no one bring something new to the table, I will be deleting your inclusion. I don't think it improves the lede and actually make things more confusing.

I hope you didn't take it personal (I was also brought to earth when started editing), but these are things you need to start addressing if you wish to edit Wikipedia past your project. Regards. --Urbanoc (talk) 13:55, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
