Thanks![edit]

Thanks a lot for reverting vandalism to my talk page! Nsaa (talk) 19:04, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

np, and now he's trying to contest his block lol. Original excuse too THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 19:14, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was very original way of doing it. Nsaa (talk) 22:25, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for creating the redirect to the multiple people named Driedger. Cheers! Prowsej (talk) 03:05, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New kind of vandalism?[edit]

Look at the history in this article Tyran_Richard and it looked like multiple IPs "attacked" the article at the same time. Nsaa (talk) 22:27, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's a fairly impressive amount of vandalism :D. One of them has offered the explanation [1]. I recall something similar happened on Brian Posehn a while ago, where the guy himself told people to go vandalize the page and mayhem ensued. THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 22:55, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Everyone wants to be Stephen Colbert. Apparently all 4 listeners vandalized the article. Original, right? Law shoot! 22:57, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
heh yeah, if they can't cause preemptive article protection then they're just another wannabe. THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 21:20, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me for asking you, but could you help out by keeping an eye on two editors (unless one is a sockpuppet) trying to change English-language terminology for this script? They're doing it on the hu.wikipedia.org as well. The roots of this are in a dispute as to what the name should be in the UCS. See the history as well. Thanks! -- Evertype· 22:11, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly looks like they are trying to push their own agenda, but at least they've demonstrated a (token-) willingness to use the talk page. Lets see how they decide to proceed after Dbachmann's comments and edits. THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 21:45, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's one of the five vandalism groups needed for your huggle to feel well and healthy. My huggle went without penis yesterday, so it has a headache. THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 23:22, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are five groups? That was a good read. I got a lot of "Can I edit this? Am I really editing this?" reverts yesterday. I put them in the existential group! Law shoot! 00:49, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was in the neighborhood and ... GFDL?[edit]

Hi, I just thought I'd pay you a social visit and ask what the connection was between GFDL and DFT/TF editing that you mentioned in our discussion. I don't know much about GFDL. I just glanced at its wiki. Regards, --Bob K31416 (talk) 03:24, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! So I guess I'll say something in the edit summary like "Created article by copying section from Density functional theory".
Sorry to be a pill, but could you point out where I can find this requirement in Wikipedia? Just for my edification. Is it in some paragraph in the GFDL wiki that I missed?
It seems like everything in Wikipedia is covered by GFDL and Wikipedia is one work as far as GFDL is concerned so that copying something from one wiki to another wiki, where both are in Wikipedia is just moving it within the same work and doesn't need mentioning. Again, I'm just flying by the seat of my pants and I don't really know this stuff well, so I wouldn't be surprised if I got it wrong.
But in any case it would be a good edit summary to say where it came from and that's what I plan to do. I'm just curious about this GFDL stuff for my general knowledge and I'm trying to get straight what I don't understand. --Bob K31416 (talk) 04:08, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info. Best regards, --Bob K31416 (talk) 14:43, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

consistent variable name for electron density[edit]

Hi. I noticed that the LDA article uses ρ for electron density whereas DFT and TF use n. In order to be consistent with variable definitions in the related articles, my first thought was to suggest changing the ρ to n in the LDA article, since that would require the least amount of work. However, then I noticed that in the Gas in a box article that n was used for quantum numbers not electron density. So even though it is more work, maybe the change should be n to ρ in the DFT and TF articles? I'm not really sure about all this or whether it's worth bothering about. Do you have any thoughts on the matter? --Bob K31416 (talk) 15:10, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response and thanks for having a good natured attitude. I really mean it. I don't think I'll mess with the density variable consistency any more for now.
Best regards, --Bob K31416 (talk) 23:34, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello![edit]

Hi again, I hav good news. I am now armed with huggle so I can thrash you even more in beating vandalsim. Lol! Regarding the new type of vandalism above. Wow, that was a lot of vandals! Still easy to beat on huggle! Lol! Good talking to you again. :-) Andy (talk) 20:18, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man, I hadn't noticed all your Huggle edits; nice work :) I've been taking it easy on the vandalism stuff recently. Enthusiasm a bit low lol. THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 13:11, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

When reverting, as you did here, please remember to leave a note on the user's talk page so they know what they should be doing differently; not everyone knows to check the history for an edit summary. --Random832 (contribs) 23:37, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ha thanks. It's the first article I started that a general audience may want to read ... but still, I'm surprised it ended up as a DYK. THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 03:55, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

I looked for a finger-gun article while writing the entry for Fahim Ahmad, the alleged terrorist who was noted as having made a finger-gun while referring to police searching his apartment. Disappointed there was just a bit of text under "Types of hand gestures", I figured it well-deserved its own article...please feel free to add to it, the more editors the better (and the less likely some jackalope will propose it for deletion) Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 06:08, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cross listing AfD in other categories[edit]

Hi. I was wondering if I could get your help? I noticed that you added the discussion on Vandana S to India-related AfD. Can you push me a template on that procedure? I think that it might come in handy in the future. Thanks! --OliverTwisted (Talk) 11:46, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody is using my IP address[edit]

Somebody is using my home IP address to vandalize Wikipedia. I've received several messages over the past couple of months indicating this. Is there anything I can do? 74.233.192.197 (talk) 13:53, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm sorry that you have received such messages. This can happen for people whose IP changes often, as is the case with yours. The message you received from me was for an edit made by someone using this IP way back in September, and was issued in under two minutes after the edit was made. Unfortunately, the person who actually vandalized must have immediately left the site so that the next person who happens to visit Wikipedia with that IP (you!) gets hit with it.
The easiest option is to simply ignore any such messages (especially if they are more than a couple of days old), and note that everyone around here is familiar with the issues associated with messages being sent to IPs but not being received by the actual person intended owning to the changeable nature of IPs. You could also create an account if you wanted to, eliminating the issue ;)
Messages about vandalism made by anonymous editors are generally only sent a few seconds to a couple of minutes after the edits are made. This attempts to minimize the problem you describe, but is not fail proof. Let me know if you have any further questions, THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 15:58, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah! Never noticed that you were supposed to blank it. So that's why huggle did that. Thanks for clearing that up :) have a great day. Inferno, Lord of Penguins 04:40, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How Ya Been?[edit]

^^ Law shoot! 11:15, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello my good man!
I've just been plodding along, counting down the days till my circumstances change & I won't have all this free time to waste here. Maybe a month until I retire, hopefully. I saw your last DYK. That's the type of article DYK must have been made for. Made me want to go visit the place. THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 11:27, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not to wax philosophical, but if it inspired you to visit, then it did its job. I do hope you become so busy in real-life that you transcend. But please consider that not a single moment you have been here is a waste. I've considered that query as well; what would I be doing if I wasn't here. I came to a conclusion: this is a hobby, like fishing, coin collecting, or hitting the gym. They are all just hobbies. What defines us is not what we do for work, but in our free time, and maybe that's where it makes you wonder. You have done such great work here that I have seen others willing to put their names on the line, myself included, so as you can progress into other endeavors. I just want you to think that a waste of time benefits no one. Your time here, is simply needed. If WP is just a conduit to a better use of your time, we are still better off for having you. Thanks for being a friend here. Law shoot! 11:57, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your insight and friendship. My feelings are biased quite selfishly at the moment because of real world guff, but certainly, in the bigger picture I do believe in Wikipedia and what everyone does in helping it along. I tried to think of it as a hobby for a while but couldn't convince myself that is why I'm really here. I think perhaps when things turn around for me I might be able to come back and view it as a legitimate hobby (this point I enlightened from reading your comment.) Maybe I just need a long wikibreak, in fact! THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 09:00, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Almost felt like I was going to go an entire day without something like this. That was my cue to stop. Law shoot! 03:03, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If I go a few days without I, disturbingly, get the urge to skim through the couple thousand search results. Inevitable this finds a blp that's been left vandalised for a few weeks, and generates a few laughs, so it's worth the time THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 05:12, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I might be. I was a bit bored so I fired up Huggle, and found that I was one of the only people checking the edits. Is it just me or were the warning-specific keyboard shortcuts removed from the new version of Huggle?
