You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Times Tables Rock Stars, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. September 2021[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:47, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Initial username was a mistake. I have no affiliation with Times Tables Rock Stars - I just believe it is in the public interest. Lots of kids play it and some teachers and I were discussing why it hadn't received its own Wiki page. I can edit the text to become more encyclopedic. I had not appreciated that the username could not be linked with the page, hence why I am requesting to publish under my own name.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline, no response in a week. Understandable, given the delay. If you return and are interested in an unblock with the topic ban discussed below, please create a new unblock request, and ping me (by typing {{ping|Floquenbeam}} and signing your post). You didn't write about TTRS by chance, so how did you come to write about it? 331dot (talk) 08:51, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have been meaning to for years - I am a teacher and I have been using TT Rock Stars for 6/7 years. My school is Bedford Girls' School. I'm just a fan and watched their progress closely as they are a local company.

I also saw their publicity from the Queen's Award. I also work with Twinkl and believe they are of similar popularity within school

Are there other topics that you are interested in editing about aside from TTRS? 331dot (talk) 09:09, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Aside from education? I'm hugely into tennis and most sport. Once I've got the hang of it I'm keen to start adding to sport related pages. Within education, I'm a big fan of EdTEch - and use many edtech companies.

Thanks for the ping, 331dot. Unfortunately I think there's a significant lack of transparency here, and I'm not in favour of an unblock until and unless that is resolved. TTRockStars, I can explain what I mean, but to do so I would need your express permission to mention the names of real people (who might or might not be you). You have a right to total privacy on this platform, and would have to waive it; you are under absolutely no obligation to do that, and should carefully consider any possible unwanted consequences it might have (note: it is not something that I would do). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:18, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Justlettersandnumbers, thank you for your response. Please can you explain in greater detail what waiving my right to privacy would entail? What can I do to address your concerns regarding transparency? Is there anything I can edit out of the initial text?

It means that I would mention the name of a real person who might (or might not) be you, and various connections that that person has. Doing that without your express permission would be a serious violation of one of our most basic rules, and could result in me being thrown off the project for good; I don't want to do it even with your permission, as I think it would be unwise for us to discuss what might be your real-life identity here. I would much prefer (please!) that you either make full disclosure of any connection you may have to Times Tables Rock Stars and its various associated companies, or accept that this is not the place for you. Just to be clear: you will in any case not be unblocked so that you can continue to promote those companies. Your draft was written like a press-release, in a promotional tone quite inappropriate to an encyclopaedia. Sorry, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:59, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for explaining that to me. Is there any solution here to get this page live? For example, can I request someone else write the text so it is not written by myself and is also therefore written in an appropriate manner for Wikipedia? I'm sure there are many people who would be able to supply sufficient detail for this page.

You requesting that someone else write it would simply transfer the issue to whomever you ask. Articles are typically written by independent editors who take note of a subject in independent reliable sources and choose on their own to write about it. Wikipedia is not a place to merely tell about a subject, but a place to summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage choose on their own to say about it. That means it can't be based on any basic announcements or any materials put out by the company or its staff(like interviews). 331dot (talk) 12:45, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As Justlettersandnumbers notes, you won't be unblocked to edit about these companies and possibly education technology in general. If you agree with that, and do as Justlettersandnumbers advises, we can consider unblocking you. 331dot (talk) 12:50, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So, to be clear, for an article to be created, it must be already cited/referenced elsewhere or a meets the notability guidelines? I am unsure as to how I get unblocked? Agree to remain blocked from editing educational pages?

  • This seems to have fallen thru the cracks. Justlettersandnumbers seems to have info I don't, so I can't rely on it, but I trust them so I'm not going to discount it. I'm not even sure this user is still trying to get unblocked. TTrockStars, are you still watching this, or have you given up? Would you be willing to agree not to edit educational pages? Depending on what is going on, that might be too lenient or too strict, but I think it would break the logjam. Justlettersandnumbers, 331dot, would that be enough for you? --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:39, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is sufficient for me. 331dot (talk) 20:45, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Floquenbeam, and yes, it does seem to have put itself on the back boiler. No objection to an unblock here with a restriction on all pages relating to education technology in general, as suggested by 331dot. If the user responds I'll go ahead and rename the account also.
