High Speed Rail

[edit]

I noticed that you are a rail fan in the Tampa area. I recently greatly expanded the Florida High Speed Rail article, and if this topic is of interest to you, I would appreciate it if could give it a look over and let me know what you think. Aalox (talk) 11:50, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, the article is certainly more substantive than it had been previously. Nice work collecting all the source material and creating the templates, etc. I went ahead and made a few tweaks to the formatting of the data in the infobox and added appropriate wikilinks where I could. Some of the wording I re-worked as well, as some sections seemed to repeat the wording used in the source material too closely, or used awkward project terminology. For instance, "Design, Build, Operate, Maintain and Finance (DBOM&F)" was in the article twice. I think once is plenty, or else it reads less like an encyclopedic article, and more like an RFP or contractual document.
The "Planning" section is pretty long, especially considering how lengthy the article may get to be once the project is really moving. It may be worth considering paring it down some and making less detailed (or creating a separate "History of..." article). Some ideas seem without appropriate context, like... "the preservation of the 1-4 corridor by the FDOT". There's not really any mention of what exactly this entailed, other than a sentence about "being widened by several road construction projects", which doesn't appear until much later in the article.
It may be good to mention the options being batted around to connect passengers between MCO station and Sunrail.
Hopefully, that's the kind of input you were looking for. Let me know if not. - TampAGS (talk) 00:10, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the copy edit. I was wondering if anyone is even interested in it in the slightest. I like a number of your refinements, nice work. I would support a split for a 'History of' in the future, but for right now, planning is all it is, so it makes no sense right now.
I couldn't find any source material that expressly says so, but basically every new bridge from Orlando to Tampa has a wide open area in the middle for the train, amount other planning consideration. I would love to add this if I can source it.
I haven't found any good sourced information about connecting passagers between MCO and SunRail.Aalox (talk) 00:30, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know! How sad. I'm glad I got to see it whilst it was still around. Thanks for the pics, too. --Ebyabe (talk) 15:27, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was a surprise to me as well. I never expected as I took photos the other weekend that it would be the last time I would ever see the building! I'm grateful I was able to document its last days, and glad I didn't put it off for a later date. It would have been interesting to have witnessed the demolition, though. Oh, well.. - TampAGS (talk) 16:27, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tiger Bay State Forest

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you did a nice job on Lake George State Forest. I wanted to ask if you could tackle Tiger Bay State Forest next? Gamweb (talk) 06:24, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks! Its funny you brought Tiger Bay up... I just recently passed by there and stopped to take photos of one of the official signs. Unfortunately, it was so late in the evening that the photos didn't turn out so great. Anyway, I'll be in that area in the next two weeks and I'll try to get some better shots. - TampAGS (talk) 19:19, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
