Vertical Farming[edit]

A farming system that produces crops and livestock indoors and known as vertical farming is saving buildings, creating jobs, helping the environment and showing signs of becoming a booming business.

Bloomberg Business Week named vertical farming one of the top 20 businesses of the future.

One spinoff of veritical farming is the aquaponic farms where crops grow in water, not dirt. Fish replace cattle and instead of outside, it’s in an abandoned meat packing plant in the center of Chicago.

Aquaponics is a combination of aqua culture (growing fish in tanks) with hydroponics (growing plants in water). The crops get nutrients from fish waste and the water continuously circulates providing oxygen to the tilapia and plants

American John Edel bought one building to build a vertical farm.

Most produce has to travel to get to grocery stores – an average of 1,500 miles – and produce loses many nutrients and flavor during the trip.

Edel’s vertical farms reduce the distance and time, which means healthier food, less pollution in the air, and less wasting of our natural resources.

Edel got a grant to take the farm off the grid, which will save on energy costs.

“We have a digester that will make bio gas which will be burnt in a turbine. In our case it’s a recycled military fighter jet engine that’s being remanufactured and repurposed that will power the facility,” Edel said.

My feelings[edit]

Student like me want challenges and responsibilitieswith a strong influence in cutting edge technology. To feel as though my work is contributing to the company's growth, I need to be treated like actual members of their divisions, interns and company administrators. I want exposure to Chinese culture and technology, to get-together, and perform several extra-curricular activities. Sufficient training and at least one in-depth performance review can also give me a reason to work as intern to the company.Monitoring and assessment are an essential part of the formal internshiplearning experience. So I want the opportunity to redesign my skill with the internship coordinator, mentor, and to attain the best possible learning experience. Truly effective monitoring and evaluation with help me to gain once in a life time experience. This internship will enhance my learning experience and invite me to critically reflect on the experience and to evaluate each learning goal outlined in the internship objectives. It will also encourage me to evaluate my skill in a more analytical manner, especially in relation to the context of other life experiences, their curriculum, and major field of study. I plan for a wildly successful internship! Since I want to set realistic, challenging career objectives so to be prepared to thoroughly engage on the same objective, this internship is right for me. I plan for a wildly successful internship!

Internship is the capstone experience that provides students with hands-on, real-world experience in a work setting. Ideally, internship will enable meto integrate and use my knowledge and skills, discover where further competence is needed, and take steps to gain that competence under educational supervision, become better acquainted with the types of work settings in which such competence can be applied. I chose to do an Internship to get experience in my field of study and to some real-life experience that would help solidify my future endeavors. Participating in Get2 China Programenables me to develop important public administration skills which cannot be taught in the classroom. This program will develop skills in the application of theory to practical work situations. Internships will provide me the opportunity to test my aptitude for a particular career before permanent commitments are made.Internships will provide me the opportunity to develop attitudes conducive to effective interpersonal relationships. It will increase a sense of responsibility and a good work habits. Internships will provide me with an in-depth knowledge of the formal functional activities of a participating organization.Internships will provide experience to see if a particular industry or career is the right choice for me. By participating on Get in2 china Program, I will better understand where my skills and interests are best suited. Internships offer experience and a way to see what it’s actually like working in the field or industry. An internship will provide relevant experience in a field to include in a resume as well as providing you with professional references and networking contacts. Also I can learn a lot more about Chinese culture and its expanding cutting-edge technology.
