Tatianahinterreither (talk) 21:26, 1 April 2010 (UTC) Random, etymology and pronunciation.[reply]

Etymology From Middle English raundon, from Old French randon, from randir (“to gallop”) ( > French randonnée (“long walk”)), from Frankish *rant (“a running”), see run. Used in English since the 14th Century. [edit]Pronunciation enPR: răn'dəm, IPA: /ˈrændəm/, SAMPA: /"r{nd@m/ Audio (US)

More… (file) [edit]Noun random (plural randoms) (obsolete) Speed, full speed; impetuosity, force. 1485, Sir Thomas Malory, Le Morte Darthur, Book I.10: And therwith two of them dressid their sperys, and Ulfyus and Brastias dressid theire speres, and ranne to gyder with grete raundon.

April Fools Day is today! April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day is a day celebrated in various countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. Traditionally, in some countries, such as the UK, Canada, Australia, and South Africa the jokes only last until noon, and someone who plays a trick after noon is called an "April Fool".[1] Elsewhere, such as in France, Ireland, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Russia, The Netherlands, Brazil, and the U.S., the jokes last all day. The earliest recorded association between April 1 and foolishness can be found in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (1392). Many writers suggest that the restoration of January 1 as New Year's Day in the 16th century was responsible for the creation of the holiday, but this theory does not explain earlier references.

A tag has been placed on Grepolis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Removal of move portions template

[edit]

I have reverted this edit in which you removed a move portions template from Eyjafjallajökull. It is hardly constructive to simply remove this template which informs of a current proposal to separate information about the glacier and the underlying mountain range, especially since you gave no reason for your action. __meco (talk) 08:04, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of "Iuytf"

[edit]

A page you created, Iuytf, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is nonsense or gibberish.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thank you. Falcon8765 (talk) 20:36, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Pistis: Disambiguation Page has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The list of links do not have similar titles, no need for disambiguation.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Clubmarx (talk) 14:26, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
