Everyone, I got a new signature, it looks like this, Techman224Talk 22:24, 4 October 2008 (UTC). I will use this signature now for discussions.

Want to reapply for ACC

Hello. I'm here to reapply to use the ACC tool on the toolserver. I couldn't reregister my account, so I'm asking you because your the one who rejected me. So, this is my request. If I did the wrong thing reapplying here, just let me know, and tell me where?. Thanks. Techman224 (talk) 03:00, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your request. Your account has now been activated. Please see WP:ACCG for information on how to use the tool.
For now, you are limited to creating six accounts per day, and you won't be able to create an account if the name is very similar to an existing one. If you find yourself running into these limits regularly, request the accountcreator permission at WP:RPE.
Thanks for helping out! Stifle (talk) 08:24, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I've checked out some of your recent actions on the toolserver and I think you're being a little strict. Accounts are only declined for being too similar if the existing username is active recently or has a large body of contributions. Admins and users with accountcreator permission can create accounts with similar names to existing users, so rather than declining this kind of request as "Too similar", consider deferring it to admins instead. Thanks for the advise. Because you bought this up, lets say there's the user "Test" already on Wikipedia, but someone requested a account called "TeSt". Would that qualify as too similar? Techman224Talk 20:49, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
It would be considered similar, but if the user Test (the existing user) had less than about a screenful of contributions and hadn't edited in the last few months, I would be happy to create the new account. Stifle (talk) 08:12, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Your edits

Hi Techman!

I just wanted to let you know that I have been watching you, and all of your reversions that I looked seem good, as did your AIV reports. I think you may be a little overzealous with your UAA reports; you may want to read WP:USERNAME for a refresher, and please remember that UAA is only intended for blatant violations.

Basically, just keep up the good work with your reversions and AIV reports, and do take a minute to read the page I linked to!

Cheers!

What do you mean by "blatant" usernames? Techman224 (talk) 16:50, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Blatant username violations typically fall into one of three categories.
  1. Attempts to impersonate someone. e.g. User:AcaIamari, . THE most dangerous of all, IMO, and also the least common. Report on sight, no matter what. Watch out for the "l-i" trick. In the font that Wikipedia uses, the lowercase "l" and uppercase "I" look almost identical.
  2. Names consisting of, (all or part) profanity, obscenity, personal attacks, or other obviously inappropriate names - e.g. User:Joeysucks; User:GodDamnYourStupidNamePolicies; User:Let's vandalize Wikipedia 2-day!. Report these on sight, don't wait for edits. Appear fairly frequently, but they will usually be blocked before you can file a report unless you are using an automated tool. Be careful with names that do not consist completely of swear words. In some cases, non-English names can appear to contain profanity when in fact, they do not.
  3. Promotional usernames, names used solely to advertise and promote some entity. e.g. User:Joe'scomputerbarn; User:Vidalia LLC. Generally best to wait until the user edits. If they create pages related to their username, or add content to existing pages that promotes an entity that seems related to their username, report. Otherwise, it's best to just ignore them.
Hope that helps! J.delanoygabsadds 17:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC) (just so you know, a couple of the names I used as examples actually were usernames that I have encountered here or there. The others were made up on the spot as I wrote this.)

Thanks. Techman224 (talk) 17:42, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Revert at Russian rock

Hi Techman, I saw that you rolled back a change by 69.244.164.100 (talk) to Russian rock. It's hard to see how changing "band" to "pop duo" qualifies as obvious vandalism. Please be careful with reverting others' changes, and always assume good faith. Wronkiew (talk) 17:39, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
