DYK for David MacDougall[edit]

On 3 June 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article David MacDougall, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that visual anthropologist David MacDougall won the Grand Prix at the Venice Film Festival for his first film, To Live With Herds, about Uganda's Jie people? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/David MacDougall. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, David MacDougall), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

There are a few references to Grimshaw 2008 in there. Should those be Grimshaw & Ravetz 2006 or is a reference missing? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 21:07, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in replying Headbomb, thanks for correcting that! TerentiusNew (talk) 14:37, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

David MacDougall[edit]

Dear TerentiusNew. I assume you have some relationship or admiration for David MacDougall since I believe you wrote the original Wiki article. I am a total amateur and would like to back away before I screw something up. I tried to add what he wrote to me, plus references, but got defeated by inability to switch to multiple authors. Below is what he sent me and I'm asking you to add it to his article, or delete it if it's out of bounds. I am only involved because we are old old close friends and went to film school together back in the day of dinosaurs. Thanks.

Influenced by cinéma vérité and Direct Cinema in the 1960s, he is considered one of the pioneers of Observational Cinema—films that present the observations of an individual filmmaker, whose perspective is shared with the viewer.* He has advocated “participatory cinema” in which the subjects of documentary films are more fully involved in their creation. He was one of the first ethnographic filmmakers to eschew explanatory narration and employ longer takes, using subtitles to translate the speech of people in other cultures.** His films have also explored what he has termed “social aesthetics,” the combination of manners, everyday rituals, textures, colors, architectural forms, and material objects that create the distinctive character of a community.***

Rembrandt's Mughal drawings[edit]

Hello TerentiusNew,

I've read your article Rembrandt's Mughal drawings and liked it :) As one of the main contributors on Rembrandt in the French Wikipedia, I translated it into French (Dessins moghols de Rembrandt, duely licensed), so thank you very much!

I realize that one drawing is missing (you've got 22 out of 23 in the list). Do you have any information about it? Maybe I can help you with the research.

Do you have access to the full Rembrandt and the Inspiration of India cat. exp. ?

With all my best, --Daehan (talk) 15:00, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daehan, many thanks for your note! It was fun to research and write that. Here is the catalogue of the exhibition. No. 5 is the one in private collection and for which we need an image (#20 in the article). As for No. 23, its identity has eluded me. It would be nice if you could track it down? Maybe by contacting the curator of the exhibition if you can find out? She also might have the missing image! Thanks for your offer of help and also for taking it to French wiki. Best regards, TerentiusNew (talk) 08:55, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello TerentiusNew, yeah, I checked this pdf, unfortunately all the drawings are not listed. I can try to contact her, good idea. Best regards, --Daehan (talk) 12:22, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Rembrandt's Mughal drawings[edit]

On 4 August 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Rembrandt's Mughal drawings, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Rembrandt's Mughal drawings (example pictured) depict Indian emperors and noblemen, and are the only drawings in which the artist engaged with the style of a "dramatically foreign culture"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Rembrandt's Mughal drawings. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Rembrandt's Mughal drawings), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Max India moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Max India, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia).
