Yes, they are labeled "Proj 1st Points". In the FAQs, they state "Each eligible tour can send their fields to OWGR, who will project a SOF and 1st place points. Each tours SOF and event rating is finalised once all players have teed off in the first round". extra space in the mountain west standings template

Why do you keep adding all the extra space from the end of the team name to the standings? Does it serve a function I don't know about? As far as I can see it adds nothing visually to it. Why do you do it? Bsuorangecrush (talk) 05:03, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

The extra whitespace is so that the W/L's line up vertically if you are using a constant-width font in your editor. It makes it much easier to edit the win and losses and sort by percentages. It has no effect on the display of the standings table. Tewapack (talk) 18:23, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Categories of birth and death years on golfer biographies

Hello, could you please explain to me why the golfers on Wikipedia have the birth and death categories at odd places within the list of categories (usually at the end)? The rest of Wikipedia seems to have these categories at the start of the cats.Hoops gza (talk) 01:00, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

From WP:CAT, "The order in which categories are placed on a page is not governed by any single rule (for example, it does not need to be alphabetical, although partially alphabetical ordering can sometimes be helpful). Normally the most essential, significant categories appear first.". I tend to order categories by order of importance, golf categories first (in a logical order - nationality based, tours played in order of membership if known, achievement/award type cats, post-playing career cats, "Golfer from" cats, etc), other categories by importance, from place categories by date if known, then the least important, birth/death cats. New golf event making its debut this year (2014)...

Hello to you, Tewapack. I have noticed that you love to edit and add/delete items in topics related to the sport of golf. I do not know what to do, with the new LPGA event called the International Crown. I wonder, if you like, want to create a subject called the 2014 International Crown here in Wikipedia. Well, I could do it, but only to a degree because I am still a novice in creating topics, like this one. Capitalization

You keep changing First Round to First round on season articles. Just curious if there is actually a standard to why you are doing that. I don't care either way but previous seasons for almost every team have both capitalized. I do it that way to keep it uniform with how it has always been in the past. The standard of WP is to use "Sentence case" not "Title Case" for article titles (WP:TITLEFORMAT), section headers (WP:HEADINGS, table headers (MOS:TABLE), etc. - see WP:MOSCAPS. Just curious

Why you are changing all the tournament info in the info box on teams pages? In previous years it has always just listed the tournament and the round the team got to, not also their opponent in that round and the score. It seems way to cluttered and all but one team in each tournament will be listed as a loss. There obviously is no standard but I don't see any reason to change how it's been done in past years. And for the NCAA tournament, don't list it as the round of 64. It's the second round, that's what it officially is according to the NCAA. Yes, I get the argument that that may be confusing considering only 8 teams play in the first four round but it is officially the second round. Alexander Levy

Could you confirm the reason for de-catagorising the Volvo China open as a win on the OneAsia tour on page Alexander Levy? I'm very confused as the tournament was co-hosted by both the European and OneAsia Tour as per 2014 European Tour, and from what I've seen elsewhere on wikipedia the win is usually then listed and categorised separately for each tour. (i.e. as the Maybank Malaysian Open is listed as both a European Tour and Asian Tour win on Lee Westwood).

I could understand if you just didn't think it warranted inclusion in table form, but to remove it altogether seems pointless as it is a win on this tour. I haven't changed it back without your response to this but will consider doing so unless I get a reply.

But surely Westwood isn't a member of the Asian Tour. I don't think it detracts from the article to have both listed, then if and when he does go on to win events on either tour or future co-hosted event the detail is already there. World Golf Village

Every article in a subcategory of Category:Census-designated places in Florida is also in that category; my edits today added fewer than ten to that category that were already in a subcategory. A little confusion

Hello, thanks for your help, but I think there is some confusion about this year's Sunshine Tour schedule. When looking closely, there are two similar looking events, the:

Mopani Copper Mines Zambia Open, played May 15–18, winner Wallie Coetzee, and
Zambia Sugar Open, played June 5–8, winner yet to be determined.

If this is correct, then that means the Mopani Copper Mines Zambia Open page should not redirect to the Zambia Sugar Open page, but rather have its own information filled out for its own page. The Mopani Copper Mines Zambia Open might possibly be a new event, causing the confusion. Perhaps you might fill out the appropriate information for the Mopani Copper Mines Zambia Open page? I've created a new Zambia Sugar Open stub page for the 2014+ event. I created a Zambia Sugar Open (2013 event) redirect and corrected the 2013 Sunshine Tour and Adilson da Silva pages. I think that covers it. A similar thing happened on the Champions Tour several years ago (Allianz Championship/Principal Charity Classic) and on the LPGA Tour years ago where two events had the same name in the same year. Tour Naming

You've reversed one of my entries regarding a Senior tournament being on the Legends tour. You're technically correct, but I see a lot of inconsistency regarding the naming of events. For example, the Sunshine Tour didn't exist under that name until 2000. It was founded as the "Sunshine Circuit", split into two tours in the early 90s, became the South Africa Tour when the re-merged in 1995, then renamed the Sunshine Tour. But many pages, for example Gary Player, call events even as far back as the 1950s by more current names. Same issue with the Australian / Australasian tours. What would be the normal naming convention that would be customary to use here? Ocfootballknut (talk))

I think the most common usage is to use the name of the Tour that the played last played/won under. This applies to Champions Tour/Senior PGA Tour, Web/com Tour/Nationwide/Buy.com/etc as well as the ones you mentioned. The tournament in question, Legends of Golf, was an unofficial tournament until 2002, so shouldn't be labeled as a Champions Tour/Senior PGA Tour event. The specific entry was I reverted was for 1978 when the Tour didn't exist yet. Tewapack (talk) 14:44, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Another question ... Is there any reason the various State Open Golf tournaments should be listed as "PGA of America Sectional Tournaments"? That category currently includes opens in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New England, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Northern California, Northwest, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. Those opens are run by the PGA section, that's why they are listed under both. There are also non-sectional championships in that category as well. SoCal Pro

Interesting change on Ed Dudley. Makes me wonder about Olin Dutra. He won the SoCal PGA tournament 6 times between 1930 & 1940. His page says that the PGA listing is missing 3 victories in that timeframe. If the 1928 tournament was considered a formal PGA event, then maybe 1 or more of Dutra's victories in that same general timeframe count as well. Not sure how to research that (on-line), though. She was an LPGA golfer for several years, and earned $176,000 doing it, so she must have generated some pro stats. Unless you object, the new article will be named "Emily Glaser" (married name that she is using professionally now), with a redirect from "Emily Bastel." Also, anything you can find about birth date, birthplace, full name, etc. would be helpful. GatorZone.com lists her as a "native of Upper Sandusky, Ohio," which as you know is often used loosely to mean someone who grew up there, rather than being born there. Nationalities of Women's British Open participants

Hello - I had noticed on the W.B.O. scoreboard today that there a couple of changes from only yesterday, changes of the countries playing in them, suggesting that in only the last day, there apparently were a few withdrawls. At this this time yesterday, there were 12 English women in the field, and there are now 13; and there were 0 Northern Irish women in the field, but there is now 1 (Stephanie Meadow). Conversely, there had been 35 American women in, and there are now 34; and there had been 1 woman from Ireland in, and there is now 0. Repeated reverts of Mark Hensby article

Hello,

I have noticed that you have reverted the edits made on the article about Mark Hensby.

Hensby is known as The Forgotten Man of Australian Golf as a result of his claims in an interview that he has been forgotten by the Australian people and was a topic discussed over some months by the presenters of This Sporting Life as they charted Hensby's decline in the world rankings from ~200 - ~300 at the time (around mid 2008).

This Sporting Life was an Australian radio show that ran for over 20 years and was responsible for producing nicknames for many Australian sportspeople and athletes.

"The forgotten man" nickname came about as a result of Hensby

Please refrain from reverting the information pertaining to the commonly known nickname of Hensby in his native Australia.

Centering

Hello - Earlier in the week, I had taken out the one column of centering because at that time, I thought it wasn't needed. But today, when I tried to put in a 2-digit golf score, the result was that the number ended up aligning to the left. That's why I had to change it back to the way it was. If you go to that page and run an experiment, you'll too see that it goes to the left without the centering put in there to keep it in the middle. Change to name of English Golf Union page

I have proposed changing the name of the page English Golf Union to England Golf to represent the change of name of the governing body (which was several years ago) however I do not know how to formally do this or what the procedure is to do this within Wikipedia. Single-season article for PGA golfers?

Hey, Tewapack. A recent issue has arisen at AfD, which as far as I know is a novel one. WP:NSEASONS is written to address when single seasons of major sports teams may be notable, and when stand-alone articles for such individual seasons may be appropriate. The new issue is whether stand-alone articles are appropriate for single seasons/years of individual athletes. Are you aware of any single-season articles for PGA or WPGA players? If so, can you identify them for me? Does WP Golf have any internal standards for such articles, if any exist, or are you relying on WP:GNG? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:26, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

None exist for golfers. The only one that comes to mind as deserving of an article is Bobby Jones in 1930, the year he won the grand slam. Two books have been written about that season. It's an article I've been meaning to create but haven't yet. Tewapack (talk) 02:23, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

David Jackson (golfer)

Tewapack, through your many golf references, can you determine Jackson's middle name or middle initial? I just checked the University of Florida online alumni directory (members only, password access), so I could include his degree information in the article you created. Unfortunately, there were two David Jacksons in the Class of 1986, both with plausible majors (health and human performance, broadcast journalism). Neither record lists an employer, and they both live in different towns in Florida. They do, however, have different middle names (Alan, Wayne). Infobox Golfer Talkpage

Hi

This is not me talking about the Nationality field debate that you have done well to keep out of as it has turned into a complete debacle. However when looking over the talk page I noticed that there was a section on the inclusion of a golfers "highest world ranking" in the info box. It has had little talk either positive or negative but I think it would be a very useful addition and wondered if you could look over the comments and see if it merits inclusion.

When it was last discussed, there was no easy way to determine what a golfer's highest ranking was. Now the owgr.com site has a rankings graph that would allow someone to determine the peak ranking. These only go back to 1989 (not the start of the rankings in April 1986). See Tom Watson for an example ([1]), he appears to have peaked at 13 on May 23, 1989 but could have ranked higher in the 1986-88 time frame. Another problem is that it is not easy (maybe impossible) to find rankings for older golfers (I could not find Jack Nicklaus for example). It has been suggested on that page by another user and I concurred that it would be useful. However as there had been little discussion and you are the most active in terms of golf edits I thought it would be best to get your opinion before progressing. I wasn't aware of the 1986-1989 issue but this only applies to a limited number of golfers anyway. Hello, I see that you have made the KPMG Women's PGA Championship page as a re-direct for the LPGA Championship, and I'm guessing that eventually it was going to be meant for the moving of the LPGA Championship page (unless you wanted to make a page without the "KPMG" sponsor name and just call the page "Women's PGA Championship".

In either case, would you mind if I be the one to move the LPGA Championship page when it is time to do it? Good morning -- With the Mark Brooks article and a couple others, there is a certain IP editor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/24.239.48.123) who has been making edits with the year 1994 in mind. You may want to go to Brooks' page and a few others (Fred Couples, etc.) to see if they need repairing. I already turned back one page involving this editor. Flags in infoboxes

Please note that WP:INFOBOXFLAG specifically says, "As with other biographical articles, flags are discouraged in sportspeople's individual infoboxes even when there is a "country", "nationality", "sport nationality" or equivalent field: they may give undue prominence to one field over others." MOS:SPORTFLAGS says "Flags should never indicate the player's nationality in a non-sporting sense; flags should only indicate the sportsperson's national squad/team or representative nationality (and it is not an exception to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Icons#Avoid flag icons in infoboxes)." Strange occurrence

Hello - just as I was about to enter the last match of the day's results on the World Match Play today, I got an edit conflict. It turns out that an IP user put in the winner of the last match. The odd thing about it is, that match happened to be the one match that had an American (Patrick Reed) and it was a win for him, and that edit is the only edit that that particular IP user has done in Wikipedia. Question about points

Hello - I noticed the recent edit to change the points on the PGA Tour page. Did the Shriners ranking points change overnight? I could have sworn it was 38, so that's what I had put into the 2015 page. Is it capable of changing overnight at the website, or was I mistaken about what I had entered last night in the first place?

The points are fixed once all the players in the first round have started - but the owgr.com site may not get updated if there are late changes to the field. Question about IP editor

Hello - Just wondering, is it common for an IP-editor's talk page to have the edit feature disabled? I had found an edit that a particular IP editor had done on the Ottawa Shooting article which had been taken out, and I found that that IP user had been warned in the past, but I also found no way to reach them through their talk page, as it appears to have had its talk option disabled.

Murdaca

It seems that the winner of the Asia-Pacific Amateur has two variants of his first name; he has an article titled Anthony Murdaca. From what I can gather, his family is of Italian origin, so his name is probably Antonio; but I'm not certain. Players Championship field size

The tour put out conflicting info for the 2014 field (144 or 145) see [3] and [4], etc. My recollection is that the field was 144 for many years (although this wasn't a strict limit, more than that can and have qualified) and then they added the Senior Players champion and expanded the field to 145 (I haven't been able to locate a source for that, but at least since 2010 [5]). IMHO, the tour does a poor job of putting out this type of info, even the 2014 Players Championship Media Guide [6] doesn't list the field size or how players qualify. From a WP:NGOLF standpoint, she is borderline. You could make a (weak) argument the she qualifies under point 1 with her Junior Ryder Cup experience. She doesn't qualify under point 5, though a point could be made that an amateur playing in a professional major (2013 Kraft Nabisco) should merit the same consideration as a pro making the cut (on the other had, she was invited, she didn't qualify). Being the youngest participant in the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur doesn't qualify, IMHO, under point 8. The Eastern Amateur wins do rise to the level of point 4. So does she meet WP:GNG? Thanks for the clean-ups on my article on Tippet. Much appreciated and pleased to see that someone has actually taken an interest in him. I have one minor issue: British Army battalions are never given the definite article (i.e. the 4th Battalion), they are always referred to as simply 4th Battalion. The definite article is used for the regiment. Hence "4th Battalion, the Royal Dublin Fusiliers" would be correct but "the 4th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers" would not be.

You may want to re-visit the amendment you made to the beginning of the second paragraph under "Military Career". Otherwise, thank you.

From WP:CAT, "The order in which categories are placed on a page is not governed by any single rule (for example, it does not need to be alphabetical, although partially alphabetical ordering can sometimes be helpful). Normally the most essential, significant categories appear first.". I tend to order categories for golfers by order of importance, golf categories first (in a logical order - nationality based, tours played in order of membership if known, achievement/award type cats, post-playing career cats, "Golfer from" cats, etc), other categories by importance, from place categories by date if known, then the least important, birth/death cats.
