Dear TheBressman,

Thank you for applying for NPWatcher! Unfortunately, your application has been declined because it seems that you don't have at least 500 edits. When you fulfill this requirement, feel free to re-apply.

Articles in other languages

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for patrolling recent changes and keeping an eye out for inappropriate articles. :) As a fellow recent changes watcher, I think that's pretty important work. I just wanted to let you know with regards to the specific article DEVIL UNITED that the procedure for dealing with articles in languages other than English is a little more complicated. Rather than tagging them for speedy deletion, we put a {{notenglish|language}} tag on the article. If you don't know the language, just leave that part untouched. I almost always do. :) The user is notified with {{subst:UE|article}} and the article is listed at Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English (steps for that are included in the notenglish template). If the article is not translated within two weeks, then it is deleted. Since you're doing the job, I figured I'd better point out procedure on this rare occurrence to you. And let me thank you for taking the time to notify users on their talk pages with the proper template. Some editors skip that step, and it is very helpful in explaining to original authors what happened to their pages. Saves all of us work and confusion down the line. :) Thanks, and happy editing! --Moonriddengirl 13:39, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that at the bottom, too, and almost made a note on the translation page that it could be an inappropriate page. Not knowing the primary content, I thought to leave it to the translator to determine. There might have been good text above it. :) Anyway, somebody has come along who managed to identify language (it was tagalog) & subject matter (a minor football club), and it has been deleted on its merits. These kinds of things don't come up often. I've only run into it maybe five or six times. It's rare enough that I put the steps for handling it on my user subpage. :) --Moonriddengirl 13:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dealing with multiple speedy deletion removal offenders

[edit]

How do I deal with offenders who continually remove speedy deletion notices, such as User talk:Leo Chedraoui, creator of the attack page Zahi ? --TheBressman 14:22, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. :) You seem to know about the escalating warning labels for speedy deletion tags, since you placed them appropriately. After you've placed the 4th, you report the user to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism just as you would any other vandal. Hope that helps. --Moonriddengirl 16:38, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your fast reply. I'll keep that in mind when dealing with vandals in the future. --TheBressman 03:14, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your speedy tag on this article only three minutes after its creation was not only absurd, but not even in line with WP:SPEEDY procedure. A history section and the addition of references was being prepped in that 3 minute interim that you so hastily decided the article was not worthy of existence. And the company being the largest employer in Trona and owner of the notable Trona Railway is an assertion of notability. Please become familiar with the following passage from the first section of WP:SPEEDY:

Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved or reduced to a stub; if so, speedy deletion is probably inappropriate. Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete.

--Oakshade 04:45, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the speedy deletion tag. In general, I wouldn't suggest speedily deleting a corporate article unless it's blatant self-promotion, like something that looks obviously copied from the company's web site, or if it's something that really has no content. (For example, "The Cottage Restaurant in Bloomington, Minnesota is well-known for their friendly service, cute waitresses, and the Floorburger Special.") If you aren't sure if something is truly a speedy deletion case, take it to WP:PROD or WP:AFD where it can be reviewed. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 04:54, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Being a little suspicious of your curious speedy deletion criteria and browsing your recent contribution history, I've removed the speedy tag to this article that you placed within one minute of the article's creation. Being a professional soccer/football player for a premier league is not only is an assertion of notability, but a primary qualifier under WP:BIO. As the "Athletes" section of WP:BIO states, "Competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming or tennis."--Oakshade 05:04, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As per messages received in regards to suspicious speedy deletion tagging, I apologise for said actions and will read and review Wikipedia's speedy deletion policy more closely for future patrolling of new pages. Thank you for the clarification --TheBressman 07:34, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you added that deletion tag; are you referring to it previously being csd'd about 10 minutes ago? Ironholds 00:31, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And ditto with the BOB MARLEY FAN CLUB article. Ironholds 00:34, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, these articles were recreated after being speedily deleted, so I tagged them as being previously deleted articles once they came up in the new pages section. Was this a correct move ? TheBressman (talk) 00:37, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That particular tag is used for pages deleted after a deletion discussion, so AfD/MfD/whatever. I'm afraid you cannot use it if the page was previously deleted via csd, although if it was you could just use the same tag used the first time. Thanks for the contributions, though; i've spent the last 10 minutes racing against you to tag BS new articles. Well, racing in my head, anyway.Ironholds 00:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. Thanks for the clarification. Let the race continue. TheBressman (talk) 00:43, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain how this is spam? It has sourcing and is NPOV. Thanks. Yamakiri TC § 07-10-2008 • 00:56:54

It was blatant advertising of an unremarkable product with no context whatsoever. An administrator has deleted this article now, end of story. TheBressman (talk) 00:59, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was NPOV! And there was context! The article just wasn't very long. So you mean you tagged the article for deletion because it wasn't very long. It even had sources. Yamakiri TC § 07-10-2008 • 13:41:17
You took this issue to Kevin, and he agreed with the speedy deletion tagging. The article had almost no context whatsoever. Why should the global community care about one brand of mouthwash when there is absolutely no significance to the article ? The article in question was deleted, so again, end of story. New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi TheBressman,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
