Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Orphaned non-free image File:Elseworld.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Elseworld.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NeoBatfreak (talk) 12:13, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.15 16 November 2018[edit]

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello TheJoebro64,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

Your draft article, Draft:Sonic on the Internet[edit]

Hello, TheJoebro64. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Sonic on the Internet".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Abelmoschus Esculentus 08:34, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, TheJoebro64. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sonic Gems Collection[edit]

Sorry, I have no idea what I'm doing (heavy user of Wikipedia, brand new to editing). I don't intend to start an edit war, but I feel that the list format would help immensely. How do I go about weighing my thoughts on the consensus? Or how do I know what the consensus will be? Sorry, I'm confused as to where I should be asking these questions, so I went straight to you.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bchill53 (talkcontribs) 22:21, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bchill53, hi. I understand it takes time to learn how Wikipedia works and you're getting off to a good start. I think you should just reread the arguments Popcornduff and I made against using the list. I'd also recommend reading WP:CONSENSUS, WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, and other guidelines/essays. They'll help you learn; you can also ask a administrator for help. JOEBRO64 19:45, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Take part in a survey[edit]

Hi TheJoebro64

We're working to measure the value of Wikipedia in economic terms. We want to ask you some questions about how you value being able to edit Wikipedia.

Our survey should take about 10-15 minutes of your time. We hope that you will enjoy it and find the questions interesting. All answers will be kept strictly confidential and will be anonymized before the aggregate results are published. Regretfully, we can only accept responses from people who live in the US due to restrictions in our grant-based funding.

As a reward for your participation, we will randomly pick 1 out of every 5 participants and give them $25 worth of goods of their choice from the Wikipedia store (e.g. Wikipedia themed t-shirts). Note that we can only reward you if you are based in the US.

Click here to access the survey: https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eXJcEhLKioNHuJv

File permission problem with File:Superman v. 2, 75 Polybagged.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Superman v. 2, 75 Polybagged.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:05, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018[edit]

Hello TheJoebro64,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Actually, anyone can nominate a good article, as per WP:GAN: "Anyone may nominate an article, and any uninvolved and registered user with sufficient knowledge and experience with Wikipedia content policies may review an article nominated at this page against the good article criteria." SemiHypercube 00:31, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@SemiHypercube, read Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Instructions: "it is preferable that nominators have contributed significantly to the article and are familiar with its subject and its cited sources. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the article should consult regular editors of the article on the article talk page prior to a nomination." From what I can tell, you haven't edited the article at all ([1]). Not to mention that there's plenty of information that's either not in the article or is unsourced. Request for GAN help[edit]

Hello again. I was wondering if you could do a GAN review for me. I recently did a quick-fail on the My Love from the Star article as I did not believe the references were properly done for a good article, though the nominator and another editor disagreed. I opened the review up again for a second opinion, and I was wondering if you could pick it up. I feel somewhat bad about the ordeal, and I would like to hopefully get another editor to look through it for them. Also please do not feel influenced by review for the article, as I could be wrong. I was only wondering because you are one of the only editors currently doing a television-related GAN review, and you have plenty of experience doing GANs. Apologies for the random message, and I hope you are doing well. Personally, I have decided to stop reviewing articles, and I am currently only pursuing my own projects on here. Amy Rose[edit]

Now that the consensus was to merge the Amy Rose article for the time being, I've started a new draft for a future de-merge. For now, I copied the whole article pre-merge to one of my sandboxes. I see you're currently busy with Knuckles, but if you can give me any advice on how to "fix" the article, please do so. Kokoro20 (talk) 00:59, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kokoro20: Hey! Here are some tips
  1. Really try hard to build the article just off secondary sources and only use primary sources if they have something important the secondary ones don't. One of the problems with the Amy page was its reliance on primary sources; many of its details could've been sourced to secondary ones.
  2. Avoid getting into in-universe specifics. For example, when I rewrote Shadow the Hedgehog, I only chose the details I felt were essential to understanding the character—he's dark, he's brooding, and he's essentially anti-Sonic, for example. The Amy article was filled with minor trivia that in no way enhanced the reader's understanding of the character (e.g. she uses tarot cards).
  3. Avoid an "appearances" section because Amy's been in so many games and instead limit it to a "character biography" or "lore" section that discusses notable character developments. The main problem with the Amy article was the appearances section, which was devoted to every single appearance she'd made since her inception, no matter how trivial it was.
  4. Check info.sonicretro.org and Sonic News Network to see if they have any sources you could use, as I've found in my time editing Wikipedia they usually do (the former has a big magazine scan archive, which is extremely useful). I'd also toy around with the Google Custom Search for video game RSs I linked at the merge discussion, as you can find mentions in a few RSs there pretty quickly.
Hope this helps. I'll be willing to help a bit later on if you'd like me to. Good luck! JOEBRO64 01:30, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About Sonic Nexus...[edit]

Good Day, TheJoeBro64!

I am writing this to inform you that it was I who had been adding Sonic Nexus to this page, Retro Engine. Sonic Nexus was created in the Multimedia Fusion 2 Engine. However, in 2008, the game was ported to the Retro Engine by Christian Whitehead and joined the development team for the, now cancelled, Retro Sonic Nexus. At this point in time, March 7th 2019, the game only has one public demo, for PC and Mac, in the Retro Engine from 2008. It is still available here[1][2], if you are interested. If you need any further proof, the demo actually states that it was made in the Retro Engine, which an image is provided here[3].

Thank you for your time and have a great day!

Advice needed[edit]

First of all congratulations for making Shadow's article become a GA. It sure looks like a well written article. This brought me to my concern of the visual novel article Shirou Emiya. I nominated this article last week to GA after multiple copyedits but I have concerns about it. Could you give it a look or review? Sadly, since I'm not an English native speaker I might not be able to fix issues found in a review in regards to the prose.Tintor2 (talk) 16:25, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Tintor2, thank you! I'll be more than happy to take a look later this week; I'll post what stands out to me on the talk page. At first glance (this is just from a skim, not an in-depth analysis) it looks nice and comprehensive. JOEBRO64 18:38, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.17[edit]

Hello TheJoebro64,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.

A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages.
