The Test[edit]

Here's the test, you may not have encountered some of the questions therefore I have linked them where needed and I have included some questions pertaining to important topics, but they are relatively few.

  1. What is vandalism?
    A. Vandalism is when a person edits the encyclopedia with intent on creating a disturbance in the article that they vandalize.
  2. What sort of edits are considered to be vandalism?
    A. The addition of random text (for example, adiodfai in the middle of a sentence), content removal without explanation, the addition of profanity, etc.
  3. At which point should one stop assuming good faith and exercise competence when dealing with vandals?
    A. They should exercise competence when the vandal makes both good and bad edits.
  4. What are edit summaries, why are they important and why should they be used?
    A. Edit summaries are simply summaries of what you do to a Wikipedia page when you edit it. They are important because they can help explain why you did something, such as removing large amounts of content, adding several sources, etc.
  5. How do you add an image to the article and configure the display (description, alternate text etc.)?
    A. You add [[File:Example.jpg|thumb|left (or right)|Description of image]]
  6. What is/isn't eligible for deletion under WP:CSD criterion A7?
    A. When a new article doesn't give sources and does not seem important, it qualifies for A7. When an article has a couple sources and displays more importance, it doens't qualify for A7.
  7. When dealing with biographies of living people which avenue of deletion is most suitable for:
    Attack pages
    A. Is it G10?
    Articles on notable individuals, that lack reliable sources and which no reliable sources can be found
    A. I don't think any "avenue" of deletion applies here. I don't know what to do in this case...
    Poorly written biographies, lacking sources
    A. I think you would start a deletion discussion, wouldn't you?
    Such articles can be tagged with WP:BLPPROD, a 10-day long proposed deletion whereby the BLPPROD tag cannot be removed unless the underlying problems have been addressed. BLPs are very sensitive areas and the most observed by the media.
  8. What is an appropriate application of the RevisionDelete function?
    A. See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:TheTrainEnthusiast&action=history. You'll see that a couple edits were revision deleted. They were attacking me and being downright inappropriate. Plus, according to the block log they were abusing multiple accounts...
  9. How do you make a wikitable?
    A. By clicking "Advanced," going to "Insert" and clicking on the table icon.
    Addendum: How would you create one without the use of the toolbar?
By adding the wikitable template.
  1. What does the rollback permission allow a user to do?
    A. It allows a user to revert vandalism faster than they could with popups and Twinkle.
  2. What is a suitable use of the rollback function?
    A. Removing vandalism and possibly stuff from your own user page. Maybe even testing it on the Rollback test page.
  3. What responsibilities does an administrator have?
    A. Deleting pages, blocking vandals and other users in violation of Wikipedia's policies, protecting pages, etc.
  4. When is it appropriate to block a user?
    A. When they've done a lot of vandalism, they need to be blocked. Or when they violated some other important policy multiple times despite being warned.
  5. Without looking at the username policy, what is an inappropriate username?
    A. An inappropriate username would be something like User:TheBigPenis or something that advertises a company, like User:The M&M Corporation.
  6. Without looking at the policy on sockpuppetry, what is and isn't an appropriate use of an account?
    A. An appropriate use of an account is using a different account on a pubic computer instead of the one at your home. What's inappropriate is using another account to do harm to the encyclopedia and using your main account to make good edits (or vice versa)
  7. When warning vandals when is it appropriate to use {{uw-vand4im}} instead of a standard level 1 warning?
    A. When the vandalism severely violates the vandalism policy.
  8. If a user means well, but fails to understand that their article violates content policies, what should be done?
    A. They should be welcomed, and corrected.
