Hi TheWarOfArt, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 18:00, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Paul Massey (English gangster), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Salford. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Pending changes reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi TheWarOfArt. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until {{{expiry}}}. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 18:20, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd appreciate it if you stopped continually rolling back to your own versions, because I believe there is merit to some content added - he gained a substantial amount of wealth from the Penn deal. I'm trying to broker a middle ground because I think all editors involved here brings something valuable to the table, and nobody has the right to own the article, anyways. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 02:46, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see you later added the Penn content back in. I appreciate that and ask for your future cooperation in any potential conflicts that may arise on this particular page. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 02:54, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Portnoy

[edit]

Hey, I re-instated my edits at David Portnoy. When writing that revision I made sure that the content was primarily about Portnoy himself rather than his company. Is there anything in particular you disagree with?Citing (talk) 15:07, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well now you have a Template:Very long section - Wikipedia, the information about the ESPN covered in the barstool sports page. Basically not all information about a public figure warrents encyclopedic consideration, particularly when using opinion pieces as citations. We should try to stick to the facts as much as possible.

"frequently courts" could be seen as POV language and asserted that he is "in-character" without enough sourcing. Although I do like some of the re-organisation (putting the labor investigation more clearly under the barstool sports heading). TheWarOfArt (talk) 15:20, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Five paragraphs is not an especially long section (considering now there's several one-paragraph sections...), but we can break it off into subsections if that helps. I avoid catch-all "Controversy" sections when writing biographies and wanted to give that paragraph some context but have added more major sources as requested. It doesn't make sense to include things about him in the Barstool article but not his own biography. I haven't used opinion pieces anywhere, unless you're using a generous definition of "opinion piece".
One other thing is I removed "philanthropist" from the opening sentence because as far as I can tell his philanthropic activity has been limited to a one (or a few?) donations rather than regular and active participation in charity. I don't know if there's a guideline for that label but would be happy to change it if I've missed anything. We could move this discussion to his talk page too if that's easier.Citing (talk) 20:14, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
removing the philanthropy thing is fine, but nearly all of this information is covered the barstool page" 'Portnoy is known for his unapologetic and brash attitude,[5] and has faced controversy over blog posts and disparaging comments towards women and others.[11][12][13] In 2011 he published a blog post which featured a paparazzi photo of Tom Brady's 20-month-old son, who was naked, while the family were on vacation and joked about the size of the child's penis.[14] He was subsequently banned from Boston sports station WEEI-AM, though he pulled the post after state police asked him to.[15] In 2017, the podcast "Pardon My Take" was cancelled by ESPN after its first episode, one week after Portnoy's comments calling their reporter Samantha Ponder a "slut" and insulting her religion and infant daughter had resurfaced.[16] Portnoy has characterized his various comments as made in jest, off-the-cuff, or to defend Barstool from "keyboard warriors" with "moral superiority";[13] when criticized in 2020 over comments in 2016 that former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick looked like a terrorist, he responded the he is "uncancellable".[17]

If we start adding every "controversy" that garners media attention regardless of if it's in dedicated section or not, that will be the entire page in six months. Do you see what I mean? It's a slippery slope.

I also don't know why you keep removing the subheadings, they make the page much more aesthicially pleasing and easier to read. And his mayoral run certainly deserves its own section, not a sub under barstool, as he was running as an individual and not in an capacity as the CEO of barstool sports.
see what you think of the new version - I like this line, ' comments towards women and others becuase it can serve as sort of a cover all against the controversies taking over the page TheWarOfArt (talk) 20:32, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think his controversies are lacking in detail but this is also a BLP about someone who makes a living by converting controversies into clicks so I'm okay with this compromise. I re-added a bit about "El Presidente" because it comes up in virtually every source and the origins seem important.
For section headings I follow Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Layout#Paragraphs ("Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading"), but this is subjective so I'm fine with it. I had placed the mayoral run under "Career", not "Barstool" but I see the merits of it being its own section and understand your perspective. Thanks.Citing (talk) 22:18, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
looks good thanks for the input 00:40, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
