May I ask about this edit?
[1] is what I'm refferring to. You used rollback to revert this edit, witht eh vandalism edit summary, dispite the fact that this was not vandalism. They seem to not have sourced it, but there absouletly are RS to back it up @The Herald Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 10:49, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hey. All additions, if they are not backed by references from reliable sources are considered disruptive edits/vandalism. Especially, when it comes to biographies of living people, it MUST be cited. Additionally, the IP has been adding the same even after multiple reverts with messages left in their talk page. Hence the rollback and revert for that BLP violation. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 10:53, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Web browsers can use tools called extensions. There is now a Chrome extension called Citation Needed which you can use to see if an online statement is supported by a Wikipedia article. This is a small experiment to see if Wikipedia can be used this way. Because it is a small experiment, it can only be used in Chrome in English.
- A new Edit Recovery feature has been added to all wikis, available as a user preference. Once you enable it, your in-progress edits will be stored in your web browser, and if you accidentally close an editing window or your browser or computer crashes, you will be prompted to recover the unpublished text. Please leave any feedback on the project talk page. This was the #8 wish in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey.
- Initial results of Edit check experiments have been published. Edit Check is now deployed as a default feature at the wikis that tested it. Let us know if you want your wiki to be part of the next deployment of Edit check. [2][3]
- Readers using the Minerva skin on mobile will notice there has been an improvement in the line height across all typography settings. [4]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 April. It will be on all wikis from 11 April (calendar). [5][6]
- New accounts and logged-out users will get the visual editor as their default editor on mobile. This deployment is made at all wikis except for the English Wikipedia. [7]

Improving articles
You can help improve articles instead of blind reverting. For example, you can find detailed sources listed on cradle of civilization and help improve corresponding articles like India. If you think a better source is justified, please add it. Also, please return the courtesy of not templating other users if you ask the same in return. As you say, they are impersonal and disrespectful. Take a moment to write a comment in your own words. --Molochmeditates (talk) 15:08, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, apologies for templating. But you've been around and you should know that any addition to an article MUST be supported by a reliable independent source for verifiability. Simply linking the article with blue link is not justified, because that time, you are using Wikipedia as the source, and Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Additionally, the most important thing here is the article India is a featured article, that has been community reviewed for around 20 years. You simply don't add information that you like into an article like that. Furthermore, per WP:BURDEN and WP:ONUS, you are the one responsible for adding a reference for the information you add. This level is unsourced additions do constitute disruptive editing and hence I templated. I'm sorry if I sound condescending, but unsourced addition to a FA will be removed immediately. I won't revert your addition now, but you should add a note in the talk page regarding your edit. Also, please read up WP:FAOWN. Thanks and happy editing. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 04:25, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- The first message on your talk page links to Wikipedia:Five pillars - I hope you take its spirit seriously. We need more editors who value building an encyclopedia of knowledge instead of being pedantic. If you see me make a mistake, which I am sure I will, I would rather you improve upon my original goal, which is to improve the article. In this example, wouldn't it have been amazing if you were to add a source from the linked article instead of chiding me on what MUST be done and reverting my edit? Wouldn't that have made the article more useful to the readers? Also, your charge of disruptive editing is highly uncalled for in my opinion and I hope you're more constructive with your interactions with other editors. This is nowhere close to a significant edit, and completely against the spirit of FAOWN. I hope you Wikipedia:Assume good faith in the future. --Molochmeditates (talk) 21:30, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for the reply. I am well aware of AGF and all, but WP:BURDEN takes easy precedence over anything when you have been editing for a while (>7 years) and are adding something into a Featured article. WP:DIY is also a good place for you to read up too. Once again, I'd ask you to provide reliable sources for every single edit you make in mainspace, since that is also a pillar of Wikipedia. It doesn't matter how new or how old an editor you are, you add an unsourced addition into an article, especially a FA which is protected for such a reason and got like huge edit notices in the editing section, you simply can't skip it and press publish changes. You are responsible for every edit you make. So, please remember that next time. I did assume AGF when you reverted and haven't raised any objections in the talk page yet, but you should do that asap. Also, go through the archives of the talk page to see why such similar additions about cradle of civilization were rejected earlier. This is not a minor edit and it is indeed an edit that comes under FAOWN. Once again, I'd urge you tto continue further discussion at Talk:India. Thanks and happy editing. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 22:18, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

ITN nomination question
Hey! I noticed you closed my RD nomination for O.J. Simpson - was just wondering if I had done something wrong that made people choose the other nomination. Thanks! Staraction (talk | contribs) 16:16, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Staraction Hey, thanks for the message. I think everyone chose it because it was posted under today's date and was higher up in the sections. Nothing else. Hence I closed it as a duplicate entry cuz it seemed redundant. I can reopen it if you want, but I don't think it will make much of a difference now. Thanks and happy editing :) The Herald (Benison) (talk) 18:55, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Update:I think it's redundant now since the discussion is moved to yesterday's section. Thanks. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 18:59, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Gotcha, just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. Thanks! Staraction (talk | contribs) 19:46, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Deaths in 2024 and archived pages
Hi. We only use simple cite references in the above project and its related month/year archived pages, the reason being the sheer number of sources being listed and the resulting slow page-loading times for the less fortunate. We try to keep the coding light, so your recent edit was reversed. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 07:54, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Refsworldlee Yeah, got that. Thanks for the update. Happy editing :) The Herald (Benison) (talk) 08:40, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Problems
- Between 2 April and 8 April, on wikis using Flagged Revisions, the "Reverted" tag was not applied to undone edits. In addition, page moves, protections and imports were not autoreviewed. This problem is now fixed. [8][9]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 April. It will be on all wikis from 18 April (calendar). [10][11]
- Default category sort keys will now affect categories added by templates placed in footnotes. Previously footnotes used the page title as the default sort key even if a different default sort key was specified (category-specific sort keys already worked). [12]
- A new variable
page_last_edit_age
will be added to abuse filters. It tells how many seconds ago the last edit to a page was made. [13]
Future changes
- Volunteer developers are kindly asked to update the code of their tools and features to handle temporary accounts. Learn more.
- Four database fields will be removed from database replicas (including Quarry). This affects only the
abuse_filter
andabuse_filter_history
tables. Some queries might need to be updated. [14]

Hi, I noticed this article on the old AFC queue and decided that it met the essential passing criterion of being notable, encyclopedia worthy and unlikely to be nominated for deletion. I therefore improved the content and referencing and hope that this now meets AFC requirements. Shyamal (talk) 03:32, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hey Shyamal, thanks for the improvement. Kindly submit the draft again for review and wait. The AfC backlog is a few weeks (2+ months) and it won't be fair if I go out of the way and review it. Someone will review it or if it comes in my random entry, I will review it too. Furthermore, you can move it to mainspace yourself with ease if you think it's worthy. Thanks and happy editing. Recent changes
- Starting this week, newcomers editing Wikipedia will be encouraged to try structured tasks. Structured tasks have been shown to improve newcomer activation and retention. [15]
- You can nominate your favorite tools for the fifth edition of the Coolest Tool Award. Nominations will be open until May 10.

Future changes
- This is the last warning that by the end of May 2024 the Vector 2022 skin will no longer share site and user scripts/styles with old Vector. For user-scripts that you want to keep using on Vector 2022, copy the contents of Special:MyPage/vector.js to Special:MyPage/vector-2022.js. There are more technical details available. Interface administrators who foresee this leading to lots of technical support questions may wish to send a mass message to your community, as was done on French Wikipedia. [18]

This The New Indian Express is not listed in WP:ICTFSOURCES. It is used as a review for a film Operation Valentine (film). The Indian Express got divided and its edition is retained by North. The South edition is The New Indian Express I think. This too will need to be on the list with reliability or unreliability highlight. RangersRus (talk) 13:10, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The appearance of talk pages changed for the following wikis: Azerbaijani Wikipedia, Bengali Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, Persian Wikipedia, Hebrew Wikipedia, Hindi Wikipedia, Indonesian Wikipedia, Korean Wikipedia, Dutch Wikipedia, Portuguese Wikipedia, Romanian Wikipedia, Thai Wikipedia, Turkish Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia, Vietnamese Wikipedia. These wikis participated to a test, where 50% of users got the new design, for one year. As this test gave positive results, the new design is deployed on these wikis as the default design. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). The deployment will happen at all wikis in the coming weeks. [19]
- Seven new wikis have been created:
- You can now watch message groups/projects on Translatewiki.net. Initially, this feature will notify you of added or deleted messages in these groups. [27]
- Dark mode is now available on all wikis, on mobile web for logged-in users who opt into the advanced mode. This is the early release of the feature. Technical editors are invited to check for accessibility issues on wikis. See more detailed guidelines.
Problems
- Kartographer maps can use an alternative visual style without labels, by using
mapstyle="osm"
. This wasn't working in previews, creating the wrong impression that it wasn't supported. This has now been fixed. [28]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 30 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 May. It will be on all wikis from 2 May (calendar). [29][30]
