Hey Hinto, sorry the discussion kinda died out, that happens a lot on BC talk pages! I think Hwy43's suggestion is the best way forward, even though it's a bit complicated. Let me know if you need help with the moves. We should nominate your new article for WP:DYK as well, I can help with that if you haven't done a nomination before. Again, great work with that article. Hi The Interior, sure thing re: DYK. I'm actually kind of stuck for idea for a hook, the best I can think of is something along the lines of "(Did you know that...) Burnaby, British Columbia's Metrotown was formerly home to several industrial facilities, including a Ford Motor Company assembly plant?" I'm not sure if that's interesting enough, so I'd like to hear your ideas. Seton Portage

I added the cat originally, but this section was not titled "Land Claims issues" then....that's a soft-soap title for sure....the broader land claims issues there are much deeper, to the natives they're still a scandal; we could chat about that on email if you want; ranging from land alienations on village sites to Hydro not paying much nor letting the reserves have electricity for years; the blockade had to do with the land alienations and the Lillooet Declaration; the deployment of hte RCMP in attack formation days after Bill Vander Zalm dropped in to shake hands and kiss babies is the real scandal; which the media won't call one, not surprising since the Vancouver media didn't report on it until coverage in the Seattle papers and the surfacing of citizen video forced them to; even now it's glossed over as no big deal; a replay for 24 hours at the same spot has been one of the local Idle No More events btw. Maybe there should be a First Nations protests category, and "scandals" winds up still including Fast Ferries, which wasn't really a scandal (just mismanagement) until the Libs sold them to WMG for way too little......there's other scandals that the media avoids that term, "reliable sources" that they're supposed to be, so can't be called that; maybe you could help come up with a better name for that section though, and consider a category to cover this, Oka, Rat Lake and other authorities-FN confrontations?Skookum1 (talk) 15:13, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

I personally agree that land claims issues in BC are scandalous, but I'm not hot on using that term on WP. It's pretty subjective/nebulous. However, a land-claims cat would be useful. I've got a few in my neck of the woods, the standoff and bridge-burning at Adams Lake, the road closures by the Niskonlith at Sun Peaks come to mind. Really busy these days, but if I make one, I'll let you know so you can help populate it.
On another note, come on over to the cite template team! The historian in you must value publishers and page numbers, it's a service to the reader. Sure it takes the editor an extra two or three minutes, it makes for a more useful page. Anyways, back to homework ... The Interior (Talk) 19:48, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
I Always had all that data, according to my own (as raised to) sequence of style/info; but often I could just copy paste that into a basic square-bracket URL link; filling out the line by line to me is time consuming; I'm already on limited time, either because in the past super-busy elsewhere in wiki, or as now superbusy elsewhere (and also on the road).......I know what you're saying; as you know I had some conflict with the deprecators vs some unnecessary template changes which destroyed page contents at the expense of megabytage; and my time including all the energy having spent time with them; same with the MOS crowd in their war on the hyphen changing legitimate - legal - name-styles....yaaaagh but cases in point of the extra time and/or its wanton imposition without looking at all the articles affected (big BC tables loaded with the old bcgnis, suddenly replaced by a huge citeweb; when all needed before was a number (that system is grandfathered at the BC govt by the way but will need change when they stop having it online; it's BC Names now....); ditto bivouac. So I'm wary of templates; call me old-fashioned but also often on the fly....I gotta go, there's a street carnival and supposed to meet a friend...more later. BTW pretty sure know what that IP post was about; has it been blocked; and or ID'd; somewhere in Wiki there should be a body to report stuff like that to; remember...dang forgot her name, Cheyenne woman; I want to say Galadriel but that's not it; great editor and wise person, driven out by personal attacks of various kinds......it's criminal activity in some cases and shouldn't be shunned off. This case is different, I'll tell you elsewhere. Such numbers should be traced, i.e. abusive IPs or obvious political harassment such as with Theresa Spence; as I once observed, character assassination is the m.o. of those with no character; a friend online responded "yeah, and the problem is there's nothing to shoot back at" (or something to that effect). C'est la vie, perhaps, and all parts of UGC sites and blogs and such are subject to them; I use geolocate and whois, still can't find out much, know it's possible. The problem of course here is that many abusive posts know enough to use SPA to hide their location/identity, or try to; CHECKUSER is there but hard to invoke......later....Skookum1 (talk) 11:11, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
It's a pity you need a thick skin to stay on here, it shouldn't be that way. You missed some wonderful drama in regards to the civility policy while you were gone, long story short, no real changes. The abusive IP's I compare to teens yelling things out speeding car windows, they're gone before you figure out what happened, and the cop's aren't probably too interested. But it is truly criminal when a good-faith editor gets driven off by that sort of thing, that damages the community. There was a lot of IP work going on at the Spence page a few weeks ago, a lot of it not good. I sometimes wonder about IP editing in general, then one pops and fixes my typo and I like them again ... Not to piss on the parade, but 1974 was during the Barrett era, and the NDP passed a host of such parks in their brief tenure; and it was the Harcourt NDP regime in 1993 that did more; this may have been the largest such declared in 1974, but there were many others, for the same reason (public effort/pressure).Skookum1 (talk) 05:56, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
God bless the park-makers, a good way to get my vote anyway. As for the claim, I was going with the Min. Enviro. on this "The Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Park is one of the first large scale wilderness areas in Canada to be set aside as a result of local citizen action. They may be exaggerating, I don't know. But the Nat parks I do know were all top-down affairs. This might be one of the first times anyone besides heavy industry and the lawmakers were invited to negotiate. Prior to this, there wasn't really a lot of organised wilderness advocacy. Oh there was but it was always ignored by the Social Credit and Liberal-Conservative Coalition crowd; what's now the misnamed South Chilcotin Provincial Park was originally a citizens' campaign from the 1930s led by Charlie Cunningham (who needs and article if I didn't make one for him yet; my source books are all back in Canada) and was supported by the local mining communities of the Bridge River Country (which is the real name for the so-called South Chilcotin, which isn't even part of the Chilcotin, but never mind that for now LOL....rebranding again....) and had a wide following; Cunningham was one of Canada's first wilderness/wildlife film-makers and his stuff made it world-wide and was also some of the classroom stuff in my school years)......I'll see what I can find out about the 1974 park-creations, there were several, not sure if any were larger; it's certainly one of the largest.....some parks like Wells Gray and Tweedsmuir have never been fully protected from mining and logging, though Tweedsmuir was around this time greatly expanded.Skookum1 (talk) 06:30, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
the big national parks along the CPR were the railway's doing; at least someone in industry had vision then (Van Horne or Strathcona, can't remember who it was who saw the value in them...). Similarly Glacier National Park in the US was created by pressure from the Northern Pacific's big boss Mr Hill...who also built big railway hotels like his Canadian counterparts.Skookum1 (talk) 06:32, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Pat; We gathered into groups this past Thursday, and I see several have already been in touch with you below. I've gathered groups and their tentative topics on the Project Talk page so there will be one place to go for both you and me to see who is doing what. The sections are meeting again on the project on Thursday Feb 28, then Spring Break intervenes. By Thursday I'm hoping each group can have a solid proposal for a topic, having researched potential sources more completely. I'll ask them to post a more complete description of what they intend to do along with the possible sources they have found in the pathfinders' sandboxes by the end of the day on Thursday. In the meantime, you'll notice that some topics are more developed than others. Could you take a preliminary look (as time permits) at those that already have a specific article and page identified and see if there are any difficulties or potential pitfalls you can notice right away? If you have any comments it might be good to post them to the pathfinder's sandbox, as that is where they will be doing most of the article work. (Two pathfinders haven't enrolled officially yet--you could put comments for that group right under the section on the Project Talk page.) Okay, so we met today and compared sources, most of which are listed in my sandbox. I have three physical books to add to my sources and two people weren't in class, so those sources are not listed. We decided we will structure the page similar to the ethics page, with definition and history sections, and then sections describing (more briefly and with better organization than the ethics page) the primary branches of the study of animal ethics. However, as we don't yet have a perfect grasp of what those branches are, we are all going to peruse some basic, more neutral sources over spring break to try to familiarize ourselves with the topic. We've got our rough draft of the animal ethics page up now. It's QUITE rough. A lot of our citations are in like, pseudo-MLA instead of coded into the references section, but we're working on that. A few sections might be missing references as well, but that will be fixed as we go through inserting the references. Aside from that, I think we've got all of our content, except for a few additions to the beginning of the timeline and a little more in the intro, and maybe a bit of shuffling around in the Views section. Hello Pat! My name is Adrianna and I am the path finder for my group in English 213. We are doing Earth religion and I was wondering about how we should go about listing the various religions that fall under the category. Since there are separate wiki pages for most of the religions should we simply make a list and only describe any that do not have a wiki page, or should we make a short summary anyway? Or should we only summarize the direct relation to Earth Religion within each religion?

Earth Religion

To be honest I think my group is a little lost on exactly how to go about adding to this page. As you said it is a very broad topic. We haven't had many ideas of what to add besides the religions that fall under this category, the ethics surrounding it, and examples of it in popular culture. Pat—if the pizza restaurant would agree to release a photo of the building and of the pot pie to the public domain, could I upload those to Wikimedia commons for inclusion into the article? Would an email release of copyright be sufficient? This is assuming that the restaurant or one of its employees took the photos--which may or may not be the case. This gets a bit complicated, but it's done all the time. You can upload the images to commons, but the copyright holder (the photographer) has to send an email confirming the release of the image to the WMF to put on file. The process is outlined here: Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. As for me, everything's almost squared away, just need to do a practicum at a local library, which should be fun. Hi there, in relation to the use of WikiProject in a page title, I've started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#Should the "Wikipedia:WikiProject" prefix be reserved for "full projects/sub projects/task groups" or any gathering?. re edit on Glacier Park

yeah, totally...."much of the park" vs 12% of it.....some much flubbery and conflation on many articles of this kind.....there are no real BIG glaciers in the Selkirks anywhere, unlike the Pacific Ranges and Kitimat Ranges and Boundary Ranges. Another line in that article that bugs me says "most of the park is heavily glaciated" which conjures up images of big glaciers rather than just glacially-carved peaks and valleys.....the only UN-glaciated part of BC is the Brooks Peninsula, which was outside the Cordilleran Icesheet. Mmm hmm, I'm going to redo the lead part when I'm finished with the body. I hiked up to the Illecillewaet Glacier last August, it was pretty crusty, amazing how far it's receded in the last century. Guess it was a pretty popular spot back in the day. I've been going through the national park articles, there's a couple good ones, but the majority are very poor, reading like crappy, incorrect versions of parks materials. Yoho's just a stub. Auyuittuq would cost you more to get to than Australia or South Africa.....surprised Yoho's a stub and Jasper's not great either....haven't really looked at Mount Revelstoke National Park, it may have seen some improvements since Revelstoke's ski operation expanded....Mount Stephen House is the one big railway hotel we don't yet have articles on, though Glacier House and the North Bend Hotel and the Sicamous Hotel and Incola Hotel and other railway articles are also needed; I'll make a start on Mount Dawson (Canada) right now.....Skookum1 (talk) 09:56, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

1614 FEET is still high in the Maritimes, it still very well could be one of the highest in NB, if not the highest; all summits in non-montane regions are in bivouac simply as part of the prominence analysis of the continent; in fact I may have charted that one; unless notable no other summits in the flatter provinces or states are in bivouac, unless part of a prominence chain (I can't access the bivouac page, does it say what its height ranking in NB is? Been a while since I was out east... Biv doesn't give a height ranking, gives it 105m prominence, parent is Trafton Mountain. Blurb reads "Locates on the northeast side of Eleven Mile Brook. Access is via a logging road that reaches the north side of this hill. From the road bushwhack south to reach the summit." Mount Dawson's montane-ocean deposits

I'd thought maybe this material might be about the Bridge River Ocean or the Slide Mountain Ocean, but neither of those are in the 600 million year range; was going to link them; there's probably an article somewhere on that particular group of deposits that can be linked, though.Skookum1 (talk) 02:26, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Reading that over again, I may have invented the sea floor. Woods actually says the sediment was deposited on a shelf of what is now north america by river action, more a delta than a sea. I'm always worried when paraphrasing geology stuff because its not an area of expertise - thanks for pointing that one out. As to what we're dealing with 600 mya i don't know, and Woods doesn't give detail. He's the former chief intepreter for the park, but may not be a geologist either. I'll look for some better geology sources, Dawson's original report and Wheeler's study would be the ones I think ... The Interior (Talk) 02:46, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Well, no, it's not; this line " Police raided Clark's home over a potentially lucrative casino licence handed to one of the premier's pals." is completely wrong, if that's what canada.com (same media chain as the Sun) said, then it's a further demonstration of why the MSM are not reliable sources. Manning Park?

You're doing such a great job on Glacier that I thought I'd suggest E. C. Manning Provincial Park be your next project; Garibaldi Provincial Park could probably use some cleanup, but Manning is "thin on the ground". The various waterfall articles around there have good writeups/cites too, or some of them do, also the more noted climbing peaks probably also, I haven't looked........Mount Stephen House and Field, British Columbia come into the equation also; not sure if Field is in the park or on its edge though; Mount Stephen House was another like Canyon House or the Louise-Banff-Jasper triumvirate; very unique looking too, tragically lost to fire.....and yeah a survey of parks articles very useful; Tweedsmuir which was the very first certainly needs a lot of work; haven't really looked at Wells Gray; a "to go with" for Manning is Cathedral Provincial Park, which you Pfly would enjoy partly for its remoteness; the Canadian Paysaten isn't a park unlike across the border in the US, it's to the south of Princeton I think.......another major and kinda important park is the Stein Provincial Park whatever its proper name that link should work, and of course Strathcona on Vancouver Island. Many smaller parks are just campgrounds but some have significant history or geographic import; e.g. Emory Creek Provincial Park, which is adjacent to Hills Bar, which I've let WP:MINING know about (it's the site of the first claims of the Fraser gold rush in the area and quite the story overall). My thinking was the big parks, given the number of smaller ones that are relatively insignificant and also the older ones vs the minor newer ones (Stein is a major newer one, as is the South Chilcotin one whose name I despite but that's a long story); the most visited provincial parks are, other than Seymour and Cypress - Garibaldi, Golden Ears, Manning and Wells Gray, I'm pretty sure of that, plus Strathcona I guess......some of the real remote ones could use highlighting though it'll be a lot of research e.g. Tatlatui Provincial Park or one similarly remote but also storied....Skookum1 (talk) 18:25, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

LOL this just gets more asinine all the time see here and on Bearcat's and MastCell's pages.........I'm of a mind that Wikipedians should issue a press release about the misreporting and also the targeting of me, and about the ongoing attempts to use Wikipedia as a political attack ad.......there's POV deletions on the CClark article all the time, that doesn't get an article of course because the Sun itself is one giant POV deletion. Note the links to Glavin and Tsakumis articles on Casinogate (which I'm tempted to start today but my SEO work is backed up)....that the Sun and its evil twin are the only news outlets treating this as a matter of major concern is a clear indicated that they're on the same side as User:ConcernedVancouverite.....at some point, on my own blog or another friend's blog, if not here, a "list of reasons why the Sun is NOT a reliable source" is gonna get started; actually someone in blogspace has one out there already.......anyways back to writing about saffron extract and the use of equipoise in the cockfighting biz in the Phils........my wiki experience has set me up ideally for writing SEO articles ;-).
