Poutine

I see on your user page that you like poutine. I must admit, I'm curious; I've never really seen the appeal in that food. Is it really that good? Melicans (talk, contributions) 07:35, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

If the fries are homecut, and the gravy is real and peppery, and if legit cheese curds are used (they should "squeak" when you bite into them), it is heavenly. But more often than not, especially in the West, it's grated "cheddar" with "brown sauce" on McCain freezer fries. Not so good. Although, I have been observed eating the KFC version. Have you seriously not tried it? (New York Fries does a reputable job) The Interior(Talk) 08:01, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
P.S, also the best hangover cure that I know. Really solidifies things gastrointestinally.
Yes, I've never tried it before (shocking for a Canadian, I know). I'm not the biggest fan of most cheeses (I can name maybe four that I like), so I've always avoided it. I might have to reconsider... Melicans (talk, contributions) 08:36, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Your arteries might not thank you for it! The Interior(Talk) 09:01, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, true. I guess I'll have to see if I'm ever in a mood adventurous enough to try it! =P Melicans (talk, contributions) 14:57, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Pavement GAN

Hi Silk Tork. I just noticed that Pavement (one of my favorite groups) was up for review today, apparently too late to help out. I would love to take a stab at improvement after looking at your notes (Full disclosure: This would be my first GA effort). If you're open to it, I could give it a go. If I've missed the deadline on this one, no worries. The Interior(Talk) 00:08, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Please work on it; and when you feel it is ready, nominate it again for GA. My comments were that I felt it was a long way from GA status, and would take a lot of work. It may be best to start from scratch, using other GA and FA articles as a guideline, because the current article has little organisation, and no solid reliable base from which to build. Most of the article appears to consist of statements added randomly over the years. The statements may be true, may be rumour, may be opinion - we don't know, as they are unsourced. You could start by getting some books on the band, doing some proper research; then looking at how other band articles are structured, work your way forward section by section. From my own experience of working with poor quality articles, that's the best way - ignore what's already there. Trying to make sense of what is there will drive you mad - and you could waste a lot of time trying to track down sources for rumours and opinion which don't exist. Good luck! Give me a nudge when you've made some firm progress, and I'll take a look. SilkTork *YES! 00:22, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

SPI re: Mexican Drug War

Hello. Yes, I believe that edit was done by the person in question. Some of his edits are not vandalism, simply are misleading and unexplained. Thank you. --BatteryIncluded (talk) 00:57, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Tieleman

Tieleman's blog says in hits massthead:

Bill Tieleman is one of BC's best known communicators, political commentators and strategists. Bill writes a politics column Tuesdays in 24 Hours newspaper and The Tyee online magazine. Bill has been Communications Director in the B.C. Premier's Office and at the BC Federation of Labour. Bill owns West Star Communications, a consulting firm providing strategy and communication services for labour, business, non-profits and government.

I haven't looked up his byline on The Tyee but it probably says somethign similar. Andrew Coyne is a Conservative party member, and a known party mouthpiece; similarly the allegiance of CanWest reporters and CanWEst's own strong BC Liberal (and federal Tory....) affiliations are well-known and oft-criticized. Yet you don't see mentions of Coyne going "Conservative-affiliated columnist Andrew Coyne" or "Liberal-supporting CanWest reporter Smyth". My objection is the "tainting" of Tieleman's analysis by saying "oh, he's only an NDPer so of course he's going to say stuff like this". The BC Liberal COIer/SPA also points at my own political agenda (=democracy and truth, I'm not an NDPer, though a well-known anti-Liberal blogger) as if that excused his own. That username alone has COI problems, no?Skookum1 (talk) 00:04, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Actually his Tyee byline says only: Bill Tieleman is a regular Tyee contributor who writes a column on B.C. politics every Tuesday in 24 Hours newspaper. E-mail him at weststar@telus.net or visit his blog..Skookum1 (talk) 00:07, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
No, I agree Skookum. Journalism in B.C. is unfortunately quite a partisan affair, and now with two leadership campaigns coming up, the water is just going to get muddier. And yes, that username is very poorly chosen for WP. If the user in question wanted to insert a more Liberal-friendly counterpoint, I wouldn't be opposed, but the "belittle-by-association" approach doesn't work with me. On a related note, someone needs to rescue poor Colin Hansen and Moira Stilwell, whose pages aren't looking great right now. The Interior(Talk) 00:44, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
P.S. If someone really wanted to belittle Tieleman, they could try affiliating him with "24 Hours" ;) The Interior(Talk) 01:21, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
LOL, truly....at least 24 Hours publishes material that the regular mainstream media, won't, however, and they do reach the youth market/voter. I may catch some flack for my counter-attacks on Talk:Christy Clark#"NDP-affiliated" but we'll see; things had to be said; and all copy from the major media in BC needs caveats of teh kind I've suggested....Smyth and Palmer especially are notable pro-Liberal hacks, as you know. Laila Yuile's blog currently has an item on Clark's GlobalTV interview with Randene Neil which IMO is a valid cite for her children/family/education policies/cabinet role and also on her brother's relationship to BC Rail; Laila's not NDP and is an independent, so far (there are those who would like her to run as a third-party candidate...probably in Falcon's riding if she does, as that's where she lives...). Although I do argue for the inclusion of BC's news bloggers as valid cites, I haven't added much from them to the various articles concerned (yet); but it's not as if political debate in BC were limited to party-affiliated commentators and reporters; independent journalists are legion - in no small part because the mainstream media have been so consistently deceptive and propagandistic; and The Tyee represents only a certain faction of the NDP/left adn so has editorializing problems of its own...and I'd have to include Tieleman in that category now, as with the NDP's implosion at present he may very well not be NDP-affiliated by later in the spring....come to tnink of it I should drop by Rafe Mair's and Harvey Oberfeld's blogs to see what they're having to say .....Skookum1 (talk) 19:42, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi The Interior. In answer to your query at the AfD, I poured through the available reilable source material and rewrote the Good Garage Scheme article. Bruce DuMont

Hi,

Went to the DYK section and saw there's a problem re: inventing the CRT. What I've just turned up in a quick look away from WP is that Allen DuMont invented an improved version of the CRT which was cheaper and longer-lasting than the German CRTs that were used at that time.

http://www.dumonthistory.tv/2.html

"DuMont developed the first long-lasting cathode ray tube, the basis of electronic television, and was first to offer a home television receiver to the public in 1939, exhibiting sets at the New York World's Fair that year. For these and other reasons, Allen B. DuMont has been referred to by many people as "The Father of Television.""

http://www.museum.tv/eotvsection.php?entrycode=DuMont

"developed an inexpensive cathode- ray tube that would last for thousands of hours (unlike the popular German import CRT, which lasted only 25 to 30 hours)"

I am willing to edit the Bruce DuMont page to clarify this with the refs and also to do the same for the Allen DuMont page. If this fixes things, just let me know and I'll edit both pages with the corrections and refs.

Thanks!

We hope (talk) 00:04, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Off to take care of the DuMont family now--will be adding both refs as Bruce is the CEO of the Museum. Want to make sure no one can say there's "family pride" here on the uncle's Museum page. :-) We hope (talk) 00:20, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Hi... I was offline for a bit, but have now made some edits to the Bruce DuMont article and the nomination... My research reflects the same findings as We Hope. I have commented at T:TDYK#Bruce DuMont, and would welcome your comments. EdChem (talk) 09:32, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK nomination of HD (commentator)

I have responded to your query on my DYK entry. Though it feels to me as though the x2 expansion rule only applies for BLPs that were originally completely(?) unsourced? --生け 23:04, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Deadwood

Hi. I'm undoing your revert on the Deadwood (TV Series) page as the article is written, still currently being edited and viewable here: Deadwood (film). Is that OK? FilmFan2011 (talk) 23:30, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
