Aldéa Landry[edit]

Thanks for the head's up, I will get to it right now, briefly, and try to do more next week. - Jord 00:49, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

lots of edits, not an admin[edit]

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 17:36, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

cavalier kc spaniel[edit]

Thanks for the note. The dog does dog agility and belongs to a fellow club member, taken on a pretty damp day at an agility competition. The dog was very cooperative about looking appealing. :-) Elf | Talk 28 June 2005 16:28 (UTC)

Histograms[edit]

Hi, I noticed the histograms are messed up. I dont know if it is my browser, or not, but they look like they are aligned vertically and not horizontally as they were. Could you investigate? Example: Canadian federal election results in Eastern Quebec. -- Earl Andrew - talk 29 June 2005 06:14 (UTC)

Thanks very much. I would have done it myself, but once you get templates within templates and funny squiggles and whatnot- my head becomes soar and well, it's not pleasant :-D. -- Earl Andrew - talk 30 June 2005 16:00 (UTC)
I fixed the Decima thing, how are you with the histograms? -- Earl Andrew - talk 21:35, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Any particular reason you removed the one-sentence explanation of the importance of Hans Island from the introduction? I thought it was helpful to let the casual reader, who wouldn't make it down two or three screens to the explanation, know why two otherwise-friendly countries were getting all het up about an insignificant speck of land. - DavidWBrooks 19:42, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see; sorry about my mistake. The history was pretty complicated there for a while. It's funny the articles that get involved in edit wars ... - DavidWBrooks 12:17, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

Please note that the inclination in Infobox needs to link to degree (angle) and not to degree, which is a disambig page. Thanks, Ian Cairns 00:59, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cool template, but is there a version without the links? An article should, ideally, link only the first instance, so there is a need for the second template variant.

Urhixidur 00:23, 2005 August 1 (UTC)

Including links into the template is unacceptably obscure. I am in the process of editing the pages that use the template. -- Curps 00:56, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I've reverted my changes (and you have already done some), since the templates can't work in a robust way. It's still unacceptably obscure to have two separate templates that have to be memorized in this way, it's undoubtedly a source of future errors. The sensible thing to do would probably be to keep it simple and just stick to the de facto convention used by many astronomical journals (both scholarly and popular): just call it 2003 EL61, etc. without any subscripting. -- Curps 01:20, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK. If we are to insist on subscripting (as the Minor Planet Center wishes), then upon reflection there probably isn't a reasonable alternative to the templates as they stand. -- Curps 01:33, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Scattered Disk Object[edit]

I put the cat there because otherwise it is left empty. Circeus 11:55, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

mpl-[edit]

I see you've added a third template to the mp/mpl family, as used in e.g. Template:Trans-Neptunian dwarf planets. The problem I have is: why? Why strip the number from the object's name? Mixing numbered and unnumbered objects in the footer in this way is confusing, since numbered objects have, by definition, well established orbits —unlike the unnumbered ones. Is it just for cosmetic reasons? Urhixidur 22:26, 2005 August 4 (UTC)

DYK[edit]

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article CCGS Labrador, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Wikimania 2006[edit]

In the course of informal discussions at Wikimania in Frankfurt the possibility of having Wikimania 2006 in Vancouver was raised. What makes Canada desirable for such a meeting is the capacity to draw delegates from the United States. For many overseas delegates, however, U.S. visa requirements make that country less attractive. All else being equal, Europeans see Vancouver as a more interesting Canadian city to visit than Toronto, the only other Canadian city to receive significant consideration.

Preliminary bids from various cities need to be made by Sept. 30, 2005. A short list will be drawn from those bids. Is there enough interest and energy to put together such a conference in Vancouver for August 2006? The people in Frankfurt put on a tremendous gathering, with a core organizational group of about a dozen people. Some 400 people attended from 52 different countries.

I expect that a North American Wikimania could be a little smaller, but we would still need a suitable facility. It would be good to know that such a facility is available for a conference; the type of youth hostel facility that was used in Frankfurt does not exist in North America. What would be the cost of hosting such a conference at UBC?

I'm looking for interest and commitment. To that end I am proposing a Vancouver meetup for Saturday, Sept. 24. If someone has a reasonably accesible place for such a meeting please let me know. (I live in Richmond, but something in the city of Vancouver would be more appropriate.)

I am spammiong this to all Vancouver area Wikipedians that I can find. Please reply to my talk page. Eclecticology 21:50:16, 2005-09-03 (UTC)

Foo films to Films directed by Foo[edit]

As per Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2005 August 30, you nominated the subcats of Category:Films by director for renaming. None of the subcats were tagged, and can't be renamed yet. Please go through and add {{cfd}} to each subcat you want renamed. Let me know when this is done. Thanks! --Kbdank71 15:16, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

poligeo stub[edit]

I like the new poligeo stub. Good work. I have been creating election results tables for as many ridings as I can. I am now removing the stub tag as I do so, but I was not doing this when I first started. As you go through, could you keep an eye out for articles that have tables, and remove the stub tag instead of changing it to the new one? I doubt that much more information will be added after the tbale goes in, so I think the tag is no longer necessary. Thanks. Ground Zero | t 14:28, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

vanc election[edit]

I live in Toronto/PEI, so doing an election on the west coast is really not for me, sorry. Pellaken 22:16, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for thinking of me but I am kind of trying to dedicate myself to my on going work on New Brunswick politics which needs A LOT of work if it is going to be at the standard I would like it to be by the time the next election rolls around. - Jord 23:11, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

yes, after reading Jord's post, I too a better suited to do a provincial election, most likely PEI is where I'll be. If there's a municipal election here in TO before I leave I'll help out, but I doubt it. Pellaken 22:14, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Party colour standards[edit]

Hi,

regarding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:German_politics/party_colours/Green -- who says that UK/IRL/US/CND do it right and NZ does it wrong? Is there any page where a discussion can take place what colours to use, or are your deciding this because you are right? Sorry for my mood, but I'm pretty sure a lot of green parties all over the world use something more like #009900 instead of something like #99cc33, and I don't see why UK/US should dictate which colours to use (the same with the different communist/left/social-democratic parties). -- till we | Talk 12:39, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wilf Hanni[edit]

I have created an article about Wilf Hanni, former leader of the BC Refom, former leader of the British Columbia Party, and now interim leader of the BC Conservative Party. Do you have anything that you can add? Ground Zero | t 20:26, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of NHL Draft Busts[edit]

Hello The Tom. Thank you for voting on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of NHL draft busts but I am asking really nicely for you to reconsider. There is already a precedent of this sort of list on wikipedia. For example, if these article were put of for deletion, would you vote keep or delete?

I don't see the difference between List of NHL Draft Busts and those articles. The NHL list just needs a stronger criteria set and it would be a great list. Thank you. Masterhatch 03:00, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Electoral Districts[edit]

I would like to invite you to participate in Wikipedia:WikiProject Electoral districts in Canada. Discussion had begun on the many issues that need to be addressed. So please read through it, familiarize yourself with the topic and the options/examples and then participate in the debate about how the pages should best be laid out. --maclean25 06:28, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your vote, and HDI discussion underway ...[edit]

Hello! I hope you're well. I'd like to thank you for participating in the vote earlier to include the HDI in the country infobox/template. Yay!

After a lengthy gestation, a discussion piece has been prepared to help give form to the vote. If you've a preference for how and where this information should appear in the infobox, I'd appreciate it if you head on over there and comment. :)

After a decision is arrived at, if at all, I'm also hopeful to prevail upon you to add the values (if you're willing and comfortable) for a handful of countries; the more people doing it, the less time it will take to implement the vote and realise the fruits of our collective labour.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for your co-operation! E Pluribus Anthony 03:57, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Aboriginal governance[edit]

Thanks for clarifying the intended scope of Category:Political office-holders of the aboriginal peoples in Canada, such a category regarding Aboriginal governance will be a great addition to the encyclopedia. I also agree that the political-office holder categories should be about the office, not the person, as you have said. All the best, Kurieeto 18:39, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

category naming conventions[edit]

Hi - I noticed this edit. I think your intent is certainly good, but was there some sort of discussion of this I missed? I've tried to be crystal clear about where the changes I've made to the conventions page were discussed. Since it is marked as a policy page, I think we should be fairly careful about this. It's probably not worth reverting, but next time please consider referencing a discussion about the change. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:33, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in the WikiProject on Electoral districts in Canada. As you know there will be an election soon. So this may be the best time for the Canadian Wikipedia community to band together and write these articles on current federal electoral districts. Based on your comments, and the comments of others, I have put together a prototype layout at the above link. The prototype is not a final proposal. It is just a place to start from, where we can discuss and experiment. Please review it, comment but keep an open mind, and help form a concensus. --maclean25 01:05, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
