Formal mediation has been requested

[edit]
The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Matrix Franchise - I stress that this is a post apocalyptic story, rather than a 'cyberpunk' story. (Third Paragraph)". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 30 August 2017.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Resolving the conflict

[edit]

Hi, I'm the Chairperson of the Mediation Committee. As you'll see in a few minutes, your request for mediation has been rejected. See the mediation page for the reasons. But I want to give you a couple of words of advice. You're in a dispute over whether The Matrix (franchise) should be described as cyberpunk or post-apocalyptic in the lead portion of that article. Under Wikipedia policy everything which is challenged (as you have done) or likely to be challenged must be supported by a reliable source as defined by Wikipedia. However, material in the lead of an article does not have to have a citation if it is supported further down in the body of the article. In this case there is a considerable well-cited discussion at The_Matrix_(franchise)#Influences_and_interpretations about it being cyberpunk. What you have to do if you wish to challenge that is find and cite sources that it is post-apocalyptic. Once you do that, then you can also introduce that into the article, but in addition to, not in place of the cyberpunk material. Until you find and document such sources, your personal opinion about it being post-apocalyptic is prohibited original research. Once you do that you cannot replace the cyberpunk stuff because the Wikipedia neutral point of view policy says that all points of view which can be documented through reliable sources must be included in the article so as to achieve a neutral point of view. I hope this helps. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 14:27, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request for mediation rejected

[edit]
The request for formal mediation concerning Matrix Franchise - I stress that this is a post apocalyptic story, rather than a 'cyberpunk' story. (Third Paragraph), to which you were listed as a party, has been declined. To read an explanation by the Mediation Committee for the rejection of this request, see the mediation request page, which will be deleted by an administrator after a reasonable time. Please direct questions relating to this request to the Chairman of the Committee, or to the mailing list. For more information on forms of dispute resolution, other than formal mediation, that are available, see Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. 123.136.112.96 (talk) 14:52, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
