P.S. Nice job on making your first edit at defenestration! :P

I was already a Wikipedian! First, it was with no account, then as "TheBrakeman" (lost the password), now it's this new account
I have a long list of edit history.Thebrakeman2 (talk)

Arne Pettersen[edit]

No, but, can I ask you a question about a person who I think warrants a page?Thebrakeman2 (talk)

Do you mean Arne Pettersen? I saw your post on Alacamari's user page. It's been a long time since I've familiarized myself with the criteria for creating an article, though. Your best bet is to check the links I posted above in the welcome message. I have to warn you, however, that Wikipedia is stricter on biographies than other articles. Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 22:39, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to make an article on Arne Pettersen though. Thebrakeman2 (talk)
Who is he? Articles on Wikipedia, especially biographies, have to meet notability requirements. Basically, is he famous enough? Also, when adding replies, you should indent it by adding a colon (:) at the beginning. :) Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 22:59, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Arne P. Pettersen (11th of February, 1906 - 14th of February, 1981) was a Norwegian Sailor most famous for being the last person to ever be processed through and leave Ellis Island, on the day it closed. The first person to ever be processed through it (Annie Moore) has a page, and we have less info on her. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 23:11, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've done a little reading, and Wikipedia:BIO1E would say that just the fact that he was the last person to pass through Ellis Island isn't enough for notability. I believe Annie Moore has an article because there's extra information on her such as family history and her legacy, and most importantly, several sources about her. You imply there's more info on Arne, though. May I ask what is this information, and are there sources for it? Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 23:31, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an article by a respected genealogist and historian who has worked on Ellis Island documentaries for PBS, that goes over some of the basics, with photos of and links to birth, census, criminal, and death records. He was imprisoned several times in the U.S, due to overstaying his "welcome" of thirty days per voyage. https://smolenyak.medium.com/we-finally-know-what-happened-to-arne-pettersen-the-last-to-leave-ellis-island-3529a692389d

I have more if you would like them, that one is just one of the most comprehensive.

Oh hey, she has her own article! Well, that looks good enough for notability and reliability once combined with other sources. You're good to go about starting a draft! You should start one here: User:Thebrakeman2/Draft/Arne Pettersen! Unfortunately, I have to leave now for real life, but when I'm back I'll be happy to help out however I can. Good luck on your first article! Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 00:15, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
When will you be getting back to me?
But, I shall start a draft. Thanks for the help.Thebrakeman2
Nice work starting on the draft! I'll be checking every now and then to see if it's complete, and once it is I'll help polish it up to the best of my ability. Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 13:59, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! This means a lot. But, what happens when it is complete?
We move it into mainspace, the place where people read articles. By the way, you should sign your comments on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end. Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 14:29, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it was three tides? Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:34, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And, how do we make sure it gets into main space as an official article?

Everything in mainspace is an article. Also, please try not to break your replies into two or more lines, as that confuses Wikipedia's reply system.
Ok, I won't Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:41, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! :) Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 14:41, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Could you help me with the page? Part of the code is broken so that one of the paragraphs (Service in WW2) isn't showing up.Thebrakeman2 (talk) 19:23, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed the draft and reversed your edits to the Princeton page. Yutah123|UPage|(talk)✶ 15:20, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

January 2022[edit]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to List of shipwrecks in 2011, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Do not break templates because you do not know how to use them. Llammakey (talk) 16:10, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The template didn't work when you "fixed" it either. I reverted it so as to have a working link, even if the template was slightly broken, but thank you for doing both. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 16:15, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup tags[edit]

Hi Thebrakeman2

Per WP:WNTRMT, please do not remove a cleanup from an article when the issue tagged remains unresolved, as you did in this edit[1] to List of shipwrecks in 2022, where you removed {{Bare URL inline}} from a reference that was still a bare URL.

Cleanup tag help editors to identify that an article needs attention. When the issue is resolved, the then tag can be removed. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:59, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BrownHairedGirl we already know it needs attention; that's why I removed them. The other frequent editors of the page know I don't know how to properly cite, and so they fix "bare references" soon after I add new entries. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 13:16, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I decided to write to you about this, rather than continuing your edit war there or starting an article talk page discussion about what's pretty obvious to me. We are definitely allowed to pipe link from a name in one article to another article where that person clearly is mentioned by name. I don't get your point about the years. Did you not read about Niels T in the article on Stanley T before you did this, twice? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 13:43, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

SergeWoodzing did you not realize that your an idiot who can't read? (For clarification, the two don't even have the same damn last name's!) Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:00, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you had read the whole sentence you would have seen that their surnames indeed were the same in the USA. If you will read up a bit on no personal attacks you might want to stop calling anyone an idiot. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 14:56, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Read the gravestone surname, then read the surname of his grandfather ya stupid Swede. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:58, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Left gravestone clearly reads "TRUHLSEN" on top. Right is his sister's. That's in the caption. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:01, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
His grandfather is "Truedsson"; the gravestone says "Truhlsen". And even if you were right, it still doesn't link to the man's Wiki page, because he doesn't have one; it's his distant relative's page. When would you ever link a page to someone's name, when said page has barely a blurb on them? Thebrakeman2 (talk) 15:11, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You will never know the fact that both grandfather and grandson had the same surname unless you read the whole sentence in the grandson's article about the grandfather. I believe the link is appropriate. That can be discussed with others now on the article's talk page. I recommend a civil tone there. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:17, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
SergeWoodzing Civil Tone my ass. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 15:26, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

David Bennett Sr.[edit]

Hey there! I was just wondering why you seem so aggressive regarding the possible deletion of the David Bennett Sr. article. I have seen your contributions to the deletion page, and you seem to be arguing with redundant points; your arguments are invalid via WP:CRIME and WP:WAX.

Also, I wouldn't be calling people "idiots who can't read" when you use the wrong "your" and "name's". ;) Cheers! Fakescientist8000 (did I do something wrong? let me know! | what i've been doing) 14:26, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would point out that you still got the point of my text, even with the 'errors', so they don't really matter, but it probably be lost on you.

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at April 1 shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Marking edits as minor[edit]

Information icon Hi Thebrakeman2! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Non-drying oil that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Gusfriend (talk) 21:48, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gusfriend I don't see how adding references could be controversial. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 09:46, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
On the Help:Minor edit page a couple of the items in the section "What not to mark as minor changes" are:
  • Adding or removing content in an article
  • Adding or removing references / citations, external links, or categories in an article
As such, adding something like "Non-drying oil is often used as a base in anti-climb paint, a type of slippery coating used to prevent climbing on its surface.[1]" should not be marked as a minor edit. Regards Gusfriend (talk) 09:56, 22 March 2022 (UTC) Gusfriend (talk) 09:56, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Toddst1 go read the talk page again; there's a nice surprise waiting for you from someone with multiple sources. Oh, and Toddst1 I found a picture of his gravestone where you can very clearly see his date of death. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:40, 30 March 2022 (UTC).[reply]

I can tell you from my own experience with genealogy that gravestones are not necessarily reliable. I can think of several cases where names and dates have been incorrect. --←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 15:16, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the community was invited to comment on your behavior by the posts on WP:ANI. @Baseball Bugs: is a stalwart editor who appears to be earnestly trying to help you understand what a WP:RS is. However, you're making it perfectly clear that your repeated WP:UNCIVIL behavior is your default response to anyone you disagree with or whose opinion doesn't suit yours. That doesn't work around here. Your next block for such behavior will likely be indefinite because it really doesn't seem like you're here to collaboratively interact with others to build an encyclopedia. I am here to build a legitimate, factual site of information, not a dribbling bureaucratic hivemind. Anyway, you saw what @Jonathan de Boyne Pollard: [finally, a respectable editor!] said; there clearly are sources, and I’m not making the date up. Now will you kindly please add the dates back to his page, and April 1 [because that is the first thing I’m going to do in 2 weeks when I’m back]? You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for contravening Wikipedia's harassment policy.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.
Two previous harassment blocks did not deter you from harassment, so this block is indefinite. Cullen328 (talk) 05:15, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Thebrakeman2 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

@Cullen328: Uhm, I didn't harass anyone Yesterday, so I shouldn't be blocked. The only thing I could think of was this, but I just did that because I wasn't trolling, and those were my actual feelings on the subject, but I guess striking them would have been appropriate. Now, in the name of double-checking, if there's been something outside of that, could you please link them here? Thank you, and have a good day. Thebrakeman2 (talk) 10:01, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

If you are unable to control your feelings and instead have to make personal attacks, Wikipedia isn't the place for you. Feel free to come back in a few years, once you have significantly matured and can convince us of this. Yamla (talk) 11:33, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@Yamla: I have been shown no proof that I harassed anyone over my unblocked period though, which is what I asked for. It is unfair to tell me to "mature" over something that didn't happen! Can I please just be given what I asked for? Thebrakeman2 (talk) 11:53, 14 April 2022 (UTC).[reply]

This is a clear personal attack. This was already pointed out to you. --Yamla (talk) 11:57, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Yamla: I didn't write that yesterday, I added back a message from several weeks ago, that should be kept there (preferably stricken). Now, it says at one of the blocking pages (can't remember which one, but I have it saved on my home computer, and will link it here when I get home), that admins should try all other avenues before blocking. I was not given an admin warning before this unnecessary block for a SINGLE action that doesn't fall under WP:Harrasment, as it did not target a person (this whole drama was started by Toddst1 alone), and I did not make this imaginary target "feel threatened or intimidated" or try to "make editing Wikipedia unpleasant for the target, to undermine, frighten, or discourage them from editing". Thebrakeman2 (talk) 12:06, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It was a very poor choice for you to add back a harassing message, yesterday. --Yamla (talk) 12:09, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Yamla: you know what, yeah it was an extremely poor choice on my part. But, does it fall under the under WP:Harrasment. I just wanted to make that message available to others who wanted to look at my previous history here (yes, even the bad stuff). Have a good day! Thebrakeman2 (talk) 13:39, 14 April 2022 (UTC).[reply]
