Speedy deletion of You and Me (band)[edit]

A tag has been placed on You and Me (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Fleetflame 23:35, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NOTE: The following has been transferred from a {{hangon}} template incorrectly placed on this page. The page it should have been placed on was nominated for speedy (above) and subsequently deleted. As the hangon was here (and was showing up at CAT:CCSD), I've removed the worthy content and pasted it below.

"You and Me is a band indeed. It has been active on the Montreal local music scence for years and is still active. Hence having it's page here shows the variety of this Montreal local scene, just like other bands have there pages here. Plus, one bandmember is the leader of another band that has its Wiki page. Thank you."

Band Page[edit]

Thanks for the message! The page's log said that it was deleted by an admin for not asserting the notability of the band. If you're planning to recreate the page (there's nothing to stop you - unless you write it identical), there should be a few things to bear in mind:

  1. You must show why the band is important. The page WP:MUSIC outlines what is acceptable as "important" - such as major tours, circulation on radio playlists, coverage in a number of independant (reliable) sources
  2. The article must be written in a neutral manner. Phrases like "bass player the best bass player in idaho is barett lee, his awesome riffs bring bringers of darkness's songs together" are from a biased point of view (the word "awesome" is subjective)
  3. The above example also shows that many band pages are grammatically poor; with sporadic punctuation, spelling and capitalisation. The page WP:GARAGE (although rather tongue-in-cheek and should be taken with a pinch of salt) is a good way of spotting a non-notable band's page.

Ultimately, the page must be referenced with a number of independant, verifiable sources (verifiability meaning sources that aren't the band's website, myspace or similar). Good places to start are interviews, features in the press or website articles. It may be that the band isn't notable enough yet. If that's the case, give it a while. You're not really allowed a page on the strength of "they will become big, you wait and see" - this is known as crystal balling. Hopefully there will be enough material to write an article soon.

If you're not sure about something I've said, just let me know.
